Just that.

OP posts:

It sounds a bit too much like “agony” for my taste. I did like Taggie in the RCB books though!

SandyY2K · 07/02/2019 23:31

Too old fashioned IMO.

feelingverylazytoday · 07/02/2019 23:33

Absolutely dreadful name.

Antonin · 07/02/2019 23:42

Agatha is top of the list of ugly sounding names imo
I think the majority of people upon hearing it will do a double take then want to see what someone called that looks like. It’s become almost a caricature of itself.

sleepylittlebunnies · 07/02/2019 23:49

I actually think Agatha sounds very elegant, I think the French say Agathe which is also nice. I have a Polish friend called Agnieszka which is also lovely and comes from Ancient Greek.

Otherwise Tabitha is a similar name and also still unusual.

BunloafAndCrumpets · 07/02/2019 23:49

I know a lovely one in her 20s now; met her when she was 3. Taggie.

Changedagain1112 · 07/02/2019 23:52

It’s your choice - but... would you want to be an Agatha when you’re 12, 18, 24, 38 etc.

NCjustforthisthread · 07/02/2019 23:53

No sorry - sounds awful and very very old. I dont even like Agnes. What about Alice?

itsbritneybiatches · 07/02/2019 23:56

Love it

Kokeshi123 · 08/02/2019 00:17

I really don't like this one, makes me think of "Argh!!"

Agnetha is quite pretty though! (yes, I know that's not entirely logical since they both begin with "ag").

Seafour · 08/02/2019 00:19

Have an Agatha in the family, now mid 20's always been known as Aggie

Nothininmenoggin · 08/02/2019 01:10

Your choice but personally I think it's horrendous.

Tavannach · 08/02/2019 01:15

It's fine. Aggie as a nn would be dreadful.

AGHHHH · 08/02/2019 01:35

Nooo.

Bloodybridget · 08/02/2019 02:16

I really like it. Very cool.

HeronLanyon · 08/02/2019 02:26

I really love it BUT I totally understand lots don’t. For that reason I would. It choose it. Think for some names I wouldn’t care so much how a name might be perceived but I think whilst loving it I too think it is slightly ‘ugly’. Think would be a bit of a burden for your Dd to have to deal with ?

Minglemangle · 08/02/2019 03:54

I like it but I wouldn’t like to be called it so therefore wouldn’t give it to a child

ArtfulPuss · 08/02/2019 05:42

I have one, aged 12. She has always been strong-willed – also clever, funny, thoughtful, considerate and beautiful – and loves her name; she has recently discovered and developed a passion for Agatha Christie, which has only made her love it more. It suits her completely and we've only ever had positive comments on it. (I have almost forgotten my mother's long silence followed by 'Oh.' when told her name over the phone from hospital.)

ArtfulPuss · 08/02/2019 05:45

Objectively speaking, I can see why people don't like it! But I have never cared, and if you love the name OP you shouldn't either.

HeronLanyon · 08/02/2019 06:48

artfulpuss well done for the name and sompleased your daughter loves it. As above I do love it and rather mourn it not being used as often !

JenniferJareau · 08/02/2019 06:51

I like it as I love Taggie from the Jilly Cooper books.

Bittermints · 08/02/2019 07:05

Good strong name. Agnes also good. Agatha is from the Ancient Greek adjective for good. Agatha Christie was a great woman. Aunt Agatha in P. G. Wodehouse was formidable. Don't know the Agathas in Matilda or Jilly Cooper, or anything about the saint, to comment on those. I like strong names more than frilly ones and this fits the bill.

Angrybird123 · 08/02/2019 07:27

There's a fab character in Vikings called Lagether.. Sort of strong shield maiden type. For what it's worth I teach at a girls boarding school and whilst we don't have any Agathas we have a lot of very diverse names include Gertrude and Beryl and no one bats an eye.. It suits them.

AppleKatie · 08/02/2019 07:36

I love it.

But I’m weak and others reactions would put me off.

Amanduh · 08/02/2019 07:38

God awful. Just dreadful.
But you need to be happy with and that’s all that matters!
