To think this site is really basic?

As in...I can't just go to the search box and put in a subject and find it in past discussions?

It takes you to a google search! I know I could probably do an advanced search but it's a bit old-fashioned isn't it? The way this place works is so ...2000!

On Reddit, if you put something in the search box it immediately asks you if you want to search the subreddit you're on or the whole site...we should have that here. I know I could post this in site stuff but wanted some more answers than I'll get there.

OP posts:
SomethingWithLemons · 05/02/2019 12:51

Slight side note but I would love it if on the mobile site the OP's posts in a thread we're highlighted some how so you don't miss their replies!. You can!

SomethingWithLemons · 05/02/2019 12:54

I do hate the way advanced search works. I often look for old posts/threads of my own and AS will find the thread for me, but not take me to the specific post I'm looking for with the keyword in it. In a 1000 post thread that's really tedious.

This in spades. It is incredibly annoying. I wish MN would do something about it. It’s not impossible.

What?? Just use search in page Hmm

UatuTheWatcher · 05/02/2019 13:10

@Pinkcottonshirt, bookmark the post and put the post into watching. When you go to watching you will see the thread title and the last four posts on the thread. If you click the thread title it will take you to the post you bookmarked. Read from there and when you get to the end bookmark again and when you go back later click thread title again and it will take you to bookmarked post. Read to end and bookmark etc. etc.

ChesterGreySideboard · 05/02/2019 13:33

As for advanced search and finding the relevant post, search the word you want to find, then when the thread comes up it will have the names of the posters who have mentioned that word and the first line or so of that they have said. Click the name of the poster, not the thread title to go straight to that post.

The acceptance of benefit letters for ID is fairly new. It was brought in because so many people did not have the required ID.

llangennith · 05/02/2019 13:45

YANBU. The technology is very dated.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 05/02/2019 13:49

Excuse me. No need for humphy wee faces Hmm.

If I advanced search the word "school" posted by me, I get this page of results link.

In a long thread, such as the first one on that results page, if I click on my username alongside one of my comments, I do not get directed to that particular comment. I just get directed to the top of the thread. I am not stupid.

MarshaBradyo · 05/02/2019 13:51

It doesn’t go to the specific comment no

bibbitybobbityyhat · 05/02/2019 14:06

Thanks Marsha. There seem to be people on this thread telling me I'm making this up!

UatuTheWatcher · 05/02/2019 14:13

I used to be able to click on the name bibbity but for some reason that function doesn’t seem to be working at the moment. I thought it was just me but it seems not.

ReaganSomerset · 05/02/2019 14:13

@Sparklingbrook

Why can't we have a like button? It'd save me having to copy the person's username, paste it in and type, 'I agree with...'

I'd love a like button.

marymarkle · 05/02/2019 14:26

I would like a like button too.

BarbaraofSevillle · 05/02/2019 14:26

Like buttons would also reduce the number of threads hundreds of posts long all saying the same thing.

BarbaraofSevillle · 05/02/2019 14:27

mary and reagan, I'd like your posts, if I could Smile Wink

marymarkle · 05/02/2019 14:34

Thanks Barbara, I would like your posts too.

itssquidstella · 05/02/2019 14:36

I would like it if I could click 'watch' on a thread in the app without having to scroll back up to the very start of the thread.

MarshaBradyo · 05/02/2019 14:39

I really do not want a like button

But I would like to be able to hide threads on my phone without clicking on them

I’m not on an app just safari site - waits for someone to tell me I can

Pinkcottonshirt · 05/02/2019 15:08

Pinkcottonshirt, bookmark the post and put the post into watching. When you go to watching you will see the thread title and the last four posts on the thread. If you click the thread title it will take you to the post you bookmarked.

Genius! Thank you!

Notsurprisedatall · 05/02/2019 15:10

Yanbu, it's ancient.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 05/02/2019 16:03

I would like to hide threads without having to click on them too (again, this is something that used to be possible but isn't any longer).

For instance, I would like to hide the thread in Active conversations with a title something like "I've seen something terrible on Twitter and now I can't unsee it". I'd like to delete or hide that without clicking on it because I do not want to see whatever it was the op saw that so traumatised her! and I do wonder why she wants to share it a load of other people so that they will be traumatised too

But I can't do that. And I'm on my laptop.

ReaganSomerset · 05/02/2019 17:04

Thanks mary. I'd like yours too. Smile

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 05/02/2019 20:38

Search is definitely broken for me — I was looking for one of the old threads about Call the Midwife, and go no hits whatsoever. There must be millions of posts with the word midwife in on here!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 05/02/2019 20:40

I would like to be able to search by topic (so look for "midwife" in Telly Addicts), but I don't think you can do that?

QuaterMiss · 05/02/2019 20:44

www.mumsnet.com/SearchArch?search_origin=mobile&mustmatch=Call_the_Midwife&dontmatch=&nickname=&fromDate=&toDate=

Any good?

(I can't preview to check if clicky. Preview is broken!)

GallicosCats · 05/02/2019 20:46

Nested comments would definitely go some way to controlling thread derailments where two people are ripping into each other about something entirely unrelated to the subject, and you just want to ignore the pair of them. Grin
