To think this site is really basic?

As in...I can't just go to the search box and put in a subject and find it in past discussions?

It takes you to a google search! I know I could probably do an advanced search but it's a bit old-fashioned isn't it? The way this place works is so ...2000!

On Reddit, if you put something in the search box it immediately asks you if you want to search the subreddit you're on or the whole site...we should have that here. I know I could post this in site stuff but wanted some more answers than I'll get there.

Yes @LEMtheoriginal Grin
Thinking about it now ,I've not seen her about for a while ...

marymarkle · 05/02/2019 08:58

I never understand the anger and/or aggressiveness from some posters when ever anyone says the site is clunky. You would think they had personally designed it.

Babyboysarenowbig · 05/02/2019 08:58

Strange but a lot of things people above say is not there, you can’t do etc, I can do- I use the desktop mobile site does that make a difference?

marymarkle · 05/02/2019 09:05

I find the site works best on desktop i.e. ipad, not so good on phone. I rarely access the site by phone as I find it too frustrating.

tisonlymeagain · 05/02/2019 09:06

It's pretty simple to navigate but it is also very dated now.

Stardustinmyeyes · 05/02/2019 09:08

Marymarkle
This is AIBU posters are known to be abrasive.
It's a bit stupid to start a thread about the general uselessness of a site in a place that none of the designers of the site will be able to respond.
It's also very annoying when posters say Oh you can't do this or this doesn't happen when for many of the posters those things do happen

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2019 09:10

It would make more sense to post this in Site Stuff.

Mn posters aren't going to have any answers. MNHQ might.

FortunesFave · 05/02/2019 09:12

Stardust Not stupid at all. I wanted to see if anyone else felt the same.

I haven't "flounced" whoever said that. I'm in a different time zone at the moment.

Mumsnet is probably a good example of 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it'. You can advanced search, bold on mobile, and probably do all the things that people are saying you can't.

I'm tired of websites, software packages constantly updating and 'improving'.

And just as soon as you get used to something, they do it again. Utterly pointless in a lot of cases and just people doing rather pointless jobs trying to justify their existence.

WorraLiberty · 05/02/2019 09:14

I can't believe some people still think an edit button would enable to posters to re-write history.

I can only assume they don't use Facebook and other sites where the edit is plain to see.

Anniegetyourgun · 05/02/2019 09:14

I'm clunky and archaic, so it suits me just fine. Mind you I haven't even tried to use it on the mobile.

WatcherOfTheNight · 05/02/2019 09:15

I agree @Barbara

I also think it's worth noting that when changes are made there's usually uproar !Grin

marymarkle · 05/02/2019 09:16

stardust I just don't understand why people would be so aggressive and angry?

It would be possible to keep the look of the site the same, but update the back functions. The one thing I would like is a site that automatically refreshes like facebook. Instead of having to reload every time to see if a new comment has been posted.

marymarkle · 05/02/2019 09:17

WorraLiberty I know!!

Faultymain5 · 05/02/2019 09:17

pink, I'm not sure what the issue is then, that's just how I do it. I bookmark then watch the thread and when I come back I click on watching and it goes to all the threads I've been watching (I think it lists it most recently posted on) and click on the desired thread there.

WatcherOfTheNight · 05/02/2019 09:19

So many posters can't be bothered to RTFT properly , Would they read edits ?

JaneJeffer · 05/02/2019 09:19

Advanced search hasn't worked properly for years now. It's useless.

marymarkle · 05/02/2019 09:20

Yes but if you bookmark a thread, it only takes you to the last comment you bookmarked. You have to keep bookmarking a new comment to get it to take you to the latest comment. A pain on a long thread if you are using a phone.
Lots of things are possible on this site. But the functionality is very very basic.

WorraLiberty · 05/02/2019 09:21

So many posters can't be bothered to RTFT properly , Would they read edits ?

That would be up to them.

I don't think MNHQ can be responsible for that really.

marymarkle · 05/02/2019 09:22

Watcher Yes they would. MNers seem to love to catch out OPs. I am always amazed at the number of MNers who do advanced search on an OP to find contradictions in what they have said.

Sparklingbrook · 05/02/2019 09:23

Edits would make a long thread even longer if both the original and edit were shown, it would soon get to 1000 posts with everyone's corrections.

WorraLiberty · 05/02/2019 09:25

Sparkling. The way to see the edit is on the same post, not a separate one.

There's a little 'see edit' button. You click it and you can see the original post, normally in a grey 'shadow'.

WatcherOfTheNight · 05/02/2019 09:26

Yes ,it is up to them @Worra ,but I read through many threads thinking FFS ,op has already answered that question 20 times.

I think it may cause more frothing
problems than it would solve but that's partly probably because I wouldn't use it

WorraLiberty · 05/02/2019 09:26

Having said that has reminded me though.

Threads filling up at 1000 posts, is definitely archaic.

IceRebel · 05/02/2019 09:27

Surely any edit would be on the same post so wouldn't add to the thread count?

If I wrote You're icorrect then edited to say You're incorrect the post could just say edited at after the original date and time.

No need for a separate post.
