AIBU to think it's absolutely ridiculous to get a baby's ears pierced?

Each to their own but...

yanbu. Evil starts with treating people as possessions. A baby's ears belong to them, NOT to their parents.

RonniePickering · 05/02/2019 00:06

Nah, start them young I say. My bubz was 2 weeks old when I got them done.

timeforteaplease1 · 05/02/2019 00:07

Is this thread being done again?

I don’t care if a baby has their ears pierced

Seline · 05/02/2019 00:08

Horrid and cruel.

I've watched all three of my kids endure awful medical procedures to save their lives. Why you would willingly inflict pain on your child for vanity I do not know.

TinselAndKnickers · 05/02/2019 00:08

If you don't like it, don't do it

Lovingbenidorm · 05/02/2019 00:08

I hate it.
I understand that it’s sometimes a cultural thing but I’m actually dreading my 15yo wanting it done!
I know! I’m sad

TinselAndKnickers · 05/02/2019 00:09

Just to clarify I don't like it - but I couldn't be arsed starting a thread over it either Grin

BBInGinDrinking · 05/02/2019 00:10

I had my babies' ears pierced in the womb. Doesn't everyone? Do keep up, OP. Hmm

MumOfOne92 · 05/02/2019 00:10

@timeforteaplease1 I've never seen one! I'm quite new hear 🤷‍♀️

If you don't like it don't do it...is a great maxim for things people do to themselves.

Its a shit maxim for things people do to others.

I don't like punching people, or spiking their drinks....but I'm not up for anyone else doing those things either.

MumOfOne92 · 05/02/2019 00:12

@TinselAndKnickers I'm bored.

Oh and I won't pierce her ears.

@BBInGinDrinking I've always been a bit behind with the times.

@M3lon yes!

It's difficult. On one hand I get that it isn't ethical to make a decision like that, on the other hand I really hated it as a child that my ears weren't pierced till I was 12. I found it painful and was full of envy of all those girls who had it done before they could remember.

ReaganSomerset · 05/02/2019 00:16

I think it, along with all cosmetic body modification not deemed to be in the child's best interests medically, should be banned before age 16.

BBInGinDrinking · 05/02/2019 00:16

I'm always a bit suspicious about threads like these, especially from a new poster. There often seems to be an unpleasant undertone to them.

M3lon · 05/02/2019 00:18

My suspicion is that antibiotic resistance will soon reduce the popularity of completely frivolous cosmetic surgery on babies. Either that or people will wake up fully to the idea that babies's bodies are not the property of their parents.

So I'm pretty sure ear piercing of babies won't be a thing for much longer.

BBInGinDrinking · 05/02/2019 00:19

...or a journalist researching for an article. That's just my experience, anyway.

rainflowerstar · 05/02/2019 00:22

Seems to be a big thing in America.

Lovingbenidorm · 05/02/2019 00:26

It looks common

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 05/02/2019 00:33

I wouldn't personally, I believe a decision like this needs to be made by the person themselves.

One of my best friends had her ears pierced when she was a baby and she hates it. She never wears earrings and she hates the holes in her ears.

I got mine done at the age of 13 and I'm glad I was able to make the decision myself.

MumOfOne92 · 05/02/2019 00:35

@BBInGinDrinking I hope it doesn't sound like that. I'm genuinely interested in others opinions!

I have posted before!

@Lovingbenidorm yep!

@WhenISnappedAndFarted precisely!
