To think they shouldn’t be advertising that they’re stocking up for Brexit?

So with Brexit approaching, some people (including me) are concerned about the possibility of food shortages etc afterwards.

One of my Facebook friends has started posting photos on Facebook of them stocking up.

Photos of crates and crates filled with a variety of tinned food, dried food, UHT milk, bottled water and other drinks, toiletries, medicines etc.

With comments along the lines of “we’re stocking up for Brexit, we’ll be ok”

I think they’re daft.
Not about the stocking up, I’m buying in extra stuff just in case too - but I think it’s daft to be telling hundreds of people on Facebook.

If things get to the point where shelves are bare and they’re reliant on their stash of food, then there’s now loads of other people who know they’ve got loads of non-perishable food stashed. People who might be very hungry.

AIBU to think that telling everyone about your food hoarding is a really bad idea if you’re planning for possible food shortages?

It's not about thieves as such. It's about people relying on you to feed them from your supplies. That you paid for. With your hard earned money.

bellinisurge · 01/02/2019 18:58

@themoomoo , you said "everyone round here has a good supply of food. Don't think we're going to be storming the neighbours!". Not everyone has that. In fact most people don't.

nancy75 · 01/02/2019 18:59

Even the supermarkets are not saying we are going to run out of everything and starve - they have predicted possible shortages of some items.
If it comes to it I’m sure we could all live on egg & oven chips for a couple of weeks!

Helmetbymidnight · 01/02/2019 18:59

Person with vast quantities of food in the house and outhouse mocks people who are buying in some food. Grin

Ah, Brexitteers logic.

bellinisurge · 01/02/2019 19:00

@nancy75 , do you have small children who will eat that for a couple of weeks?

themoomoo · 01/02/2019 19:01

helmut someone asked me specifically about my own situation which I replied to.
Not sure how that's mocking anybody or some bizarre logic ( unless by brexiteers' logic you mean sensible and level headed which would make sense)

nancy75 · 01/02/2019 19:02

Why do you think there is going to be literally no food in the shops?
If I go to Waitrose & they don’t have what I want I don’t knock next door & ask my neighbour if they’ve got any, I just buy something different

PositivelyPERF · 01/02/2019 19:02

I’m glad you’re in that kind of area, themoomoo. Not everyone is lucky enough.

nancy75 I had my very full and large oil tank emptied, as did my neighbour, five doors up. I never thought that would happen. It wouldn’t actually be difficult to remove cases of food from a house.

nancy75 · 01/02/2019 19:04

bellinsurge most kids would be well pleased if they got chips for dinner every night for a couple of weeks!

Helmetbymidnight · 01/02/2019 19:05

Yes, you have vast quantities of food in the house and "outhouse" Grin but find it amusing that others might be 'gullible' enough' to want to have some supplies.

IamFrauBlucher · 01/02/2019 19:05

@PerverseConverse come 1st April that guy will become King of the local tribe. GrinGrinGrin

bellinisurge · 01/02/2019 19:06

@nancy75 and this applies to all children. Including small babies that aren't weaned? Interesting .

PositivelyPERF · 01/02/2019 19:07

I know for bloody sure, that if certain relatives knew I had extra stored, they’d want to buy it at the price I’ve paid for it, when prices go up in shops. Because they don’t want to pay the inflated prices, and prices will go up. Even the experts say so. They’re the kind of people who have come to my barbecues, where I supply food and drink, with a token present, which they take back home. Mind you, they have been known to phone me beforehand telling me what drink to get in. I no longer have big barbecues.

bellinisurge · 01/02/2019 19:08

"Why do you think there is going to be literally no food in the shops? "
Google Just In Time.
Or just ask the MoD or the DfE?
Or are they all silly middle class snowflakes?

themoomoo · 01/02/2019 19:09

helmut I have always had a lot of food in. the gullible people are the ones putting themselves under financial pressure to stockpile due to brexit when there really is no need

hardly mocking people who don't already have a stockpile, but that doesn't fit the Evil brexiteer profile does it?

PositivelyPERF · 01/02/2019 19:09

Admit it nancy75, you are actually Sammy Wilson, aren’t you? 😒😁

bellinisurge · 01/02/2019 19:11

What is gullible about slowly building up your pantry for several months?
Or getting a three day buffer of food in as I have been suggesting on here for months.
Leaving it to the last minute because you believed a load of bullshit is gullible.

nancy75 · 01/02/2019 19:11

bellinisurge like I said, stockpile all you like ( you seem to have conveniently ignored that part of my previous post) I’m just not buying into the idea that people will be breaking into houses to steal food.
If you reply please stop using the @ before my name, the emails are very annoying & you can do bold by putting * before and after my name.

themoomoo · 01/02/2019 19:13

What is gullible about slowly building up your pantry for several months
because there are people on this thread who think people will be breaking in and stealing their food as the country will have no food:
That's gullible. not quite sure you're understanding the meaning of the word

Helmetbymidnight · 01/02/2019 19:13

‘I have vast quantities of food in my outhouse -

Grin

Typical Brexiteer.

themoomoo · 01/02/2019 19:17

helmut Confused
sorry, i literally have no idea what you're on about

Birdsgottafly · 01/02/2019 19:18

If food was getting scarce, cats and rabbits would be the first to go.

Just thought I'd throw that in.

Mind you, there's quite a few cat haters on here, so you'd be pleased.

themoomoo · 01/02/2019 19:19

I'm assuming you're saying I live in some massive country pile?
But I thought the typical brexiteer was a thick, northern, working class racist? think terraced house and whippets.
Has this changed now?

hazell42 · 01/02/2019 19:21

Its Brexit not armageddon

PositivelyPERF · 01/02/2019 19:24

That's gullible. not quite sure you're understanding the meaning of the word

You really do have a very privileged life if you think people won’t steal food. Small shops and stores have had their stock cleared out, in the past. What makes you think houses are safer? My stock consists of at least two cases of each different types of tinned food, such as peas, beans, spuds, tomatoes, chickpeas, etc etc. Not to mention, dried food. There’s enough to supply the shelves in a small local shop. This isn’t just brexit shopping, btw. But I have increased my stock pile, in part due to Brexit. I actually enjoy being a prepper and the comfort it gives me, knowing I’m prepared for illness, snow, etc.
