Is this normal? I'm constantly washing towels.

OP posts:
Oliversmumsarmy · 01/02/2019 10:05

I do 38 washes per week.

My washing machine is on all the time

Pinkcottonshirt · 01/02/2019 10:08

I do two, sometimes three, washes per week (two adults here).

RiverTam · 01/02/2019 10:08

that is a preposterous amount of washing unless someone in your home has suppressed immunity or somesuch. I take it you don't work as I don't see that someone working, even part time, would have enough spare time on their hands to process that much laundry.

RiverTam · 01/02/2019 10:09

sorry, that was to Oliver, not Pink!

greenelephantscarf · 01/02/2019 10:10

towel hooks on door
each person has their own hook.

hand towels are changed every other day, but they get a lot of use by everyone.

rose789 · 01/02/2019 10:47

I wash mine after every use. I hate the thought of used towels but I do have ocd and drive dp up the wall for example by washing a pair of jeans after each wear.
Dd1 has her own towel which is washed once a week and hung on the bathroom radiator to dry between uses. The baby I use a clean towel each bath time as she’s only tiny. Dp has his own and will stick it in the wash when he thinks it needs it, I’d rather not think of when that is Envy - not envy.
Kitchen and bathroom hand towel’s are changed daily

Queenofthestress · 01/02/2019 10:54

Fucking hell @oliver even me, with the child so obsessed with washing machines it takes over the majority of his waking moments, don't do that many washes! I do 7 a week, sometimes 8/9 if we've had a mucky day Shock

Honestly, this thread! People showering 10 times a week and using hand towels to dry. People that wash towels daily or not till they smell. People that don’t dry certain body parts with certain towels. Families sharing towels..

Shock

A bath sized towel each.
Washed weekly.
Used to dry all body parts.

Oliversmumsarmy · 01/02/2019 12:33

Yes they do. Dp has cancer and no spleen

ethelfleda · 01/02/2019 12:35

Ok I am taking on board that it's ridiculous and bad for the environment and vowing to change my ways. But its AIBU so I might get told that a hundred more times of course

RiverTam · 01/02/2019 12:38

kind of pertinent to your 38 washed a week, then Oliver - why not mention it? It also means that your exceptional circumstances mean your situation is not really relevant to this thread.

I'm sorry about your DP, that sounds dreadful.

SaturdayNext · 01/02/2019 12:40

I can't help it, I just cannot use a towel more than once (after a shower.)

With every respect, Newnamefor this, of course you can help it. It's incredibly easy.

SaturdayNext · 01/02/2019 12:42

I wash after every use. I think your drying your personal areas on this towel, do you really want to be using it again to dry other areas again?

Why, don't you wash properly, @WhentheSkyFalls?

Kokeshi123 · 01/02/2019 12:45

I'm getting flashbacks of that weird couple in the League of Gentlemen who have color-coded towels for different parts of the body.

"White for hands, brown for feet, green for torso, thighs and seat. In the cupboard 'neath the stair, you'll find a red one for pubic hair..."

AhoyDelBoy · 01/02/2019 12:45

Exactly RiverTam Hmm
Oliversmumsarmy clearly wanted to be asked though..

SaturdayNext · 01/02/2019 12:48

I wash mine after Every use... that's because my lot put them on the floor after they've used them and they get soaked. Plus my hair towel is usually sopping.

Wouldn't just be easier (and a lot cheaper) to make sure that your family members hang them up again?

How on earth does a towel get sopping after hair washing? Mine doesn't, and I have long hair. And even if it does, so what? It's sopping just after it's been washed, does that mean you have to wash it again?

Nanny0gg · 01/02/2019 14:49

Also, if you still had twin-tub washing machines you wouldn't be changing your towels daily either (except in special circumstances)

Oliversmumsarmy · 01/02/2019 15:21

I have always done that much washing.

Oliversmumsarmy · 01/02/2019 15:22

I also did that much washing whilst holding down a business.

RiverTam · 01/02/2019 15:30

why? Because that seems to me to be almost into OCD territory. In the absence of that or someone ill in the household, I fail to see the reason for it. And my machine takes 2-3 hours a load (quick washes being very uneconomical/environmental and thus a waste of time) so working full time I couldn't do that many a week.

It would be great if you could respond in more than single sentences as well, if you are actually interested in discussing this.

Whisky2014 · 01/02/2019 15:46

So if you've always done that much washing it's not really relevant that your husband has cancer and no spleen?
Why would you need to do 38 loads a week?

Fresta · 01/02/2019 16:16

River- why are quick washes un-environmental? Surely having the washing machine on for a shorter time is better- uses less water and less electricity!

hellsbellsmelons · 01/02/2019 16:18

THIS IS GREAT
We have our own towels as well.
Mine get washed once a week (if they are lucky)

Fresta · 01/02/2019 16:20

How can any normal household need to do 38 washes a week? What on earth is there to wash?
