Warwick Police haven't prosecuted anyone for these vile rape threats and Warwick uni are now letting (some of?) the perpetrators back in to study at the same university alongside those they discussed threatening to rape.

Would you be happy sending your child here?

Warwick students suspended over rape threats allowed to return earlyly*_

Hmmm. Appears that there was underage sexual relations with a 14 or 15 year old. According to the transcripts from twitter.

I think warwick have made a big mistake.

And yes it is legal to be a wanker. But universities and other establishments are not obliged to accept you on their roll!

User758172 · 31/01/2019 09:15

@Spicilydone

I shall email them and tell them the opposite.

How long should these boys be banned for - for life? Should their lives be ruined over this? It’s not a question of prioritising them. They’ve already had a ban, a year to reflect on their actions, and hopefully return as improved human beings.

Bluestitch · 31/01/2019 09:15

Well X found it threatening. And it is grounds for expulsion either way.

Fazackerley · 31/01/2019 09:15

Jaques I hate to say it but you can't guarantee any man won't rape a woman. The true rapists are probably not the ones that shout about it.

Johnnycomelately1 · 31/01/2019 09:17

I suspect Warwick caved on legal advice, which I cant entirely blame them for. However, whichever parent brought the legal challenge will probably see it massively backfire as I imagine every graduate recruiter in the country has now had his/her memory jogged about this and is quickly googling the names.

Bluestitch · 31/01/2019 09:19

Well they had a second chat saying 'lets do it all again' after the first one was exposed so I wouldn't be confident they've learned their lesson.

Doyoumind · 31/01/2019 09:19

Bluestitch how many people do you think are talking in private chats or messages each day about other people and making threats they would never actually put into action? Are we to monitor all private communications and punish people for things they say privately they would like to do but more than likely have no intention of doing?

JacquesHammer · 31/01/2019 09:19

I hate to say it but you can't guarantee any man won't rape a woman

Of course you can't. But maybe protecting women from thugs who joke about that along with mutilating women's genitalia might be a good place to start...

tattyheadsmum · 31/01/2019 09:19

Here are their names and some of the things they said, for those of you who are saying it is no big deal. Oh, and even after they were caught, they started another private group chat, saying the same things....so they're obviously remorseful.

Lycanthropology · 31/01/2019 09:20

MrsAriadne Have you read any of the transcripts? These men are utter scum. If the rape and underage sex doesn’t appall you (like it does most of us) perhaps the racism just might?

Can’t think anyone would want their young adult child - male or female - to study alongside these people.

User758172 · 31/01/2019 09:20

@Jaques

Of course no one can guarantee that any man won’t rape any
woman. Shall we return to the olden days when men and women were more segregated?

MrsBrianWarner · 31/01/2019 09:20

Agree with johnnycomelately.

Theyd have been better off spending the legal fees on deed poll name changes and moving them somewhere else.

This will follow them around forever.

JacquesHammer · 31/01/2019 09:21

woman. Shall we return to the olden days when men and women were more segregated?

Do keep up - I've addressed this point earlier.

Maybe looking to people who have threatened rape and mutilation, and then - once caught out - suggested they do it all again, might be a reasonable point to start with safeguarding.

User758172 · 31/01/2019 09:21

@Lycanthropology

Being a scumbag isn’t illegal.

They didn’t physically harm anyone.

I’m sure we’ve all studied alongside crappy human beings, except we didn’t know it.

Bluestitch · 31/01/2019 09:22

Are we to monitor all private communications and punish people for things they say privately they would like to do but more than likely have no intention of doing?

How do you know what their intentions are? Of course we can't monitor private chats but they were careless enough with this chat and shared it enough that it was leaked and got back to the girls they were threatening, in addition to racism and a seeming admission of sex with an underaged girl. Why shouldn't they be expelled? Why are they more important than the women they threatened?

User758172 · 31/01/2019 09:23

They threatened them. They didn’t physically harm them. They have been punished.

Grimbles · 31/01/2019 09:23

Ugh, those twitter transcripts. Who even talks like that.

JacquesHammer · 31/01/2019 09:24

They threatened them. They didn’t physically harm them

And the mental harm?

So if the women involved feel unable to continue their studies because they don't feel safe, that's just collateral damage as long as the poor menz don't miss out?

They have been punished

And haven't exactly learned their lesson...

Bluestitch · 31/01/2019 09:25

Would you be happy in your workplace if a group of male colleagues graphically discussed mutilating your genitals and violently raping you, shared it around the office enough that it got back to you, and didn't lose their jobs so you had to continue working with them? What would you consider to be your employer's responsibility in that situation?

Spicilydone · 31/01/2019 09:26

Well fine MrsAraidneOliver if that's how you feel about it. It is so often the case that people bleat about not ruining the lives of young men who behave in this appalling manner. These are not young teenagers, these are adults. And sometimes you have to take the consequences for poor behaviour. They are not being prevented from applying to other universities, so they won't have their lives ruined. And if they end up having to do their degree with a lesser University, then it will make both them think and send out an important message to others. I'm thinking about the poor women who were the subject of those messages. How easy will it be for them to sit in lectures or in the library with these idiots.

Grimbles · 31/01/2019 09:27

They threatened them

Of course, if you had been threatened with sexual violence, you would have no issue with the person who did it being around you.

53rdWay · 31/01/2019 09:27

Being a scumbag isn’t illegal.

Whatever the legal situation here, universities don’t have to limit disciplinary proceedings to situations where a law has been broken. They can - and do - expel students permanently for things which don’t break any laws. Warwick would be well within their rights to prioritise the welfare of the students that these boys discussed raping and mutilating over the potential ‘ruined lives’ (how?) of the boys themselves.

HouseOfGingerbread · 31/01/2019 09:28

These young men are clearly unrepentantly vile. But I can imagine it is very difficult for the University to fight the legal challenge on expelling them.

If you wish to complain, do so, but remember that the people receiving your complaint, whether they're in student admissions, the department's admin team, or on the social media team, are not responsible for the decision and phrase your complaint accordingly. Dealing with angry people who seem to hold you personally accountable for a decision elsewhere in your institution is surprisingly stressful.

Lycanthropology · 31/01/2019 09:28

I’m sure we’ve all studied alongside crappy human beings, except we didn’t know it

Oh absolutely, and ignorance is bliss 🙂, but unfortunately the identity of these people is known.
How do you think women and/or students of other races /Jewish students will feel about having to sit with or work with these people?

Spicilydone · 31/01/2019 09:29

*both make them think
