Unbelievable! This poor child (upsetting content)

There is already a thread on FWR but this needs sharing as widely as possible

I cannot open this but it is a follow up story by the Times.

MotherOfDragonite · 30/01/2019 11:41

This is just so completely wrong. What an utter disregard for the (female) victim, who has suffered an assault and the trauma of the follow up with police and through the courts! How can this possibly be justifiable?!

The person who made this terrible decision ought to be sacked and shamed.

justasking111 · 30/01/2019 12:37

The photo of the young man with rotary Scotland connections has been removed. mmm....

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 30/01/2019 13:50

Bit like locking the stable door.
The horse has bolted now. People will know who is. I doubt he'll have a quiet life. Nonces are rightly despised and none more so than ones who get off scot free

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/01/2019 16:22

justasking111 the photo's still there on the website of the Scottish Sun

Apologies for mentioning any paper with that title, but if it's to be believed, "(the victim) gave a lengthy video interview to officers but her parents were later told that the recording had failed" and "The Crown Office informed the family that it intended to contest the decision after the trial, but the appeal was abandoned on January 4"

Like many others, I'd just love to know what's gone on behind the scenes in this case ... Hmm

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/01/2019 20:53

It seems this isn't the first time Sheriff Gerard Sinclair's been in the news either ...

silvercuckoo · 30/01/2019 21:10

Wasn't there a young woman in the news a couple years ago who was also cleared despite attacking her boyfriend with a knife, where the fact that she was an Oxbridge medical student (or possibly a prospective student?) was taken as evidence of good character, and she was not convicted. Anyone else remembers this case?

Theswaggyotter · 30/01/2019 21:16

Yes silver I remember that one, she was a medical student but judge seemed to think she was so talented and so likely to be an amazing surgeon that she walked free Hmm

This case is much worse though. Bearing in mind you can get married age 16 in Scotland he was not a child when he sexually abused that 6 year old girl.
The fact the video was ‘broken’ , the report not being available to the family, the whole thing stinks. It’s an affront to justice and I feel so angry for that brave girl and her family

SinceYouAskMe · 30/01/2019 21:35

The Secret Barrister is normally good at explaining why cases that the Daily Mail are frothing about actually make sense, but I think he’d struggle with this one.

silvercuckoo · 30/01/2019 22:26

This case is much worse though.
Oh yes, I agree. It just made me wonder if people from a "caring" profession, e.g. medical, automatically start with a credit of trust towards being "good". This is probably why "Dr" before a criminal's name carries an extra emotional charge, from real historical ones such as Dr Mengele, to burlesque ones as Dr Evil.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 31/01/2019 07:04

silvercuckoo I guess you might be thinking of this one ... ?

xsquared · 31/01/2019 07:27

This has made me so sad and angry. It's as if women and children do not matter and that the perpetrator's future is worth more than getting justice for the victim.

Not long ago there was a news story abiyr a 6 year old girl who was raped over weeks in school. The perpetrators were given support but the girl's family had to pay for private counselling.

RageAgainstTheVendingMachine · 31/01/2019 07:42

A spokesman for law firm Beltrami & Co, which defended the abuser in court, said the sheriff conceded in his report that his sentence was "wholly exceptional".

Among the factors they say he identified were a belief that the victim's family "were not seeking any form of retribution" and "held no ill-will" against the abuser or his family.

Christ all fucking mighty. That would appear to be adding salt to the wound. If she wasn't seeking retribution before I sure as hell wouldn't blame her if she was seeking it now Shock

smcbride · 31/01/2019 08:06

God this is depressing, poor girl.

The Judge should have all his cases examined... this shows a massive lack of regard for the actual victim.

I hope she gets lots of support.

Biscusting · 31/01/2019 08:15

I couldn’t find a link without signing up for something. I felt I need to see his picture in case I get a new dentist in the future Angry

Strugglingtodomybest · 31/01/2019 08:35

Stealthmay I add to your list - that there are men in high places who do not have an issue with paedophilia and are actively pursuing its decriminalisation.

This was my first thought.

Interesting that he got off with no conviction yet that MP got 3 months, not suspended, for lying. Obviously HER career doesn't matter then.

Fraying · 31/01/2019 08:39

I wonder what the reasons were for dropping the appeal too. It says they were shared with the girl's family.
The Rotary pic will be deliberate on the part of the media. But surely even the 'old boys network' has its limits? It's a complete disgrace. I hope the girls family and the public are given answers because this sends a clear message that women and girls don't matter.

Scottish daily record is running this story about the sherrif flashing today:

www.dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-news/sheriff-who-teen-child-abuser-13941254

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/02/2019 15:13

Following the outcry, it seems further details of the sheriff's ruling have been released: www.thescottishsun.co.uk/news/3819344/paedo-dental-nurse-christopher-daniel-unpunished-immature-curiosity-dentist-career/

Apparently he judged the actions to be mere "inappropriate curiosity" from a "naive" teenager

So that's all right then Hmm

Bowlofbabelfish · 02/02/2019 15:23

Criminal activity is supposed to damage your future. That’s the point of Sentencing

I really, really hope this gets reviewed. He needs to be on the Sex Offenders Register and he should not be working with vulnerable patients.

Damaged your future? Tough cheddar, should have thought of that before abusing a child.

SaturdayNext · 02/02/2019 16:13

It does seem difficult to reconcile the picture of an emotionally immature teenager with that of someone able to cope with a university dentistry course. I'm really surprised the prosecution didn't pursue their appeal against sentence.
