Everyone here (nearly) says it will be bad.
Let's hear some positives about our coming freedom from the EU!

The million quid, yes. The Hugh Jackman, not a chance - he's all mine 😂

*Positive:

When the 1.3 million migrants that Merkel allowed into Germany are issued German passports, they will find it much more difficult to move to Britain should they wish to*
MrsAdriane- we will stay insulated in the UK with an aging population, drive away the people who provide care and do the less-well-paid jobs, drive away modern industry, investment and technology, and we will be better off?
We can police our borders now (the fact we do it so poorly is up to us).
We also opted out of Shenghen, so European Migrants coming here is entirely up to us (we allow them, as we need them, to pick fruit and do service jobs).
We have sovereignty and make out own rules. We have a brilliant arrangement with the EU.
It is just Farage and Boris saying it all comes from Brussels.

Of course not every migrant out of the 1.3 million will want to leave Germany for the UK. But some will. And I’m glad it will potentially be more difficult for them to do so.

What's wrong with German citizens moving to Britain? Unless you're somehow implying that migrants who eventually qualify for citizenship of their new country, are somehow not as proper citizens, as those who were born citizens in the first place?

Sorry - posted too soon.

"Niall Ferguson made this idiotic comment. I don’t think many folks consider him to be an idiot?"

Appeal to authority, but still an idiotic, and bigoted comment.

Niall Ferguson has done some stupid things in the past too, look it up.

The comment is ridiculous for a number of reasons.

  1. Not all of the 1.3 million have been granted permission to remain, many have already left.
  1. In order to gain a German passport they will have had to have been resident for 8 years and then have passed a number of tests. Implying that even a small minority would then use this as an excuse to move to the UK is rather ridiculous.
  1. The implication is that any of these people moving to the UK, after 8 years residence in Germany would be negative.

So no, no echo chamber, just refuting your utterly ridiculous point ( and Ferguson's).

Economically it is a bad thing as they stop producing and consume increasingly.

An ageing population is a bad thing because of the dependency ratio, the number of people who are dependent on the working population paying taxes.

TheElementsSong · 30/01/2019 10:15

Of course not every migrant out of the 1.3 million will want to leave Germany for the UK. But some will. And I’m glad it will potentially be more difficult for them to do so.

Again: What's wrong with German citizens moving to Britain? Unless you're somehow implying that migrants who eventually qualify for citizenship of their new country, are somehow not as proper citizens, as those who were born citizens in the first place? "Try and address the comments themselves" - my arse.

BorisBogtrotter · 30/01/2019 10:16

" opposed to flailing wildly and throwing insults every chance you get? It’s so repetitive and childish and so predictable! "

Its not an insult if its factually correct, which it was.

User758172 · 30/01/2019 10:16

@mobyduck

Why is an aging population a bad thing? It depends whether you think our population should be ever-growing or stable. The answer cannot be to bring in endless numbers of immigrants to replace those who get old - because immigrants also get old! - we’re just making the problem worse and kicking the can further down the road.

the people who provide care and do the less-well-paid jobs

Is this really what we need immigrants for? To do the badly paid, tedious work we British don’t want to do? How patronising to them. There’s no earthly reason why British people can’t do these jobs and pick their own fruit.

BorisBogtrotter · 30/01/2019 10:18

"The answer cannot be to bring in endless numbers of immigrants "

Your use of language is interesting here, as it implies that there are hordes of immigrants.

"because immigrants also get old! - we’re just making the problem worse and kicking the can further down the road."

Actually, most immigrants from the EU return home at some point, many far before they get old. They contribute, then move home without claiming their pensions.

But, yeah, facts elude you and you would rather use hyperbolic rhetoric to make your points.

I haven’t RTFT but

I was so complacent we would remain, I didn't vote!

WHAT?

User758172 · 30/01/2019 10:21

Well, if they didn’t vote, they can’t complain!

Buteo · 30/01/2019 10:23

I’m sure we’re about to find out whether British people want to be caters and fruit pickers.

mobyduck · 30/01/2019 10:23

There’s no earthly reason why British people can’t do these jobs and pick their own fruit and let them eat cake.

Well, I've waited a while, and asked the same question several times. I'll perhaps open the question to the floor, and would welcome insights from everyone:

Of course not every migrant out of the 1.3 million will want to leave Germany for the UK. But some will. And I’m glad it will potentially be more difficult for them to do so.

What's wrong with German citizens moving to Britain? Unless you're somehow implying that migrants who eventually qualify for citizenship of their new country, are somehow not as proper citizens, as those who were born citizens in the first place?

User758172 · 30/01/2019 10:28

@Buteo

Absolutely. If it turns out that Brits don’t want to pick their own fruit - and I include myself, I’m not somehow above it - then we can do without.

Incidentally the carers I’ve met have all been Brits too, so we’re certainly capable of care work and looking after our own elderly folks.

Bet you will vote if there's a next time eh Moby

For sure!
I was shocked by the result. Who fucks up something that is working well for all of us? Ohh, we do. But why?

Buteo · 30/01/2019 10:38

Maybe we could reorganise the school holidays to coincide with harvest periods?

Or more likely we’ll go back to a Seasonal Workers scheme, which is what the UK relied upon for decades.

DarlingNikita · 30/01/2019 10:47

If it turns out that Brits don’t want to pick their own fruit - and I include myself, I’m not somehow above it - then we can do without.

Can we? Confused So what are all the farmers and food producers on about, then, when they express their concerns about labour shortages.

Or did you mean we can do without fruit?

OftenHangry · 30/01/2019 10:47

Well, I don't worry anymore.

Got Wetherspoons magazine where they explained no deal is the best thing for us and we have all been lied to by the metropolitan elite about it.

Ya know. If wetherspoons says it's all fine and dandy with no deal, who am I to question it😂
