Everyone here (nearly) says it will be bad.
Let's hear some positives about our coming freedom from the EU!

Let them eat cake

WrongKindOfFace · 28/01/2019 18:48

There will be a lot of job opportunities for people who used to be custom officers if they want to go back to it

They were advertising for border force staff towards the end of last year. I wonder how many are actually in post (or will be in post by the end of March) given the complex recruitment process?

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 28/01/2019 18:49

I have a relative who works in a care home. It is a good home with good working conditions although they are often short staffed.. said care home has lost a few Eastern European members of staff and have had difficulty replacing them. To make the job more attractive and attract staff the hourly rate has gone up from just over min wage to nearly £11 a hour.
Funny how suddenly money can be found to pay a decent wage when you don’t have a pool of Eastern European’s willing to work for shit money.
Oh and this is in the south east where life is pretty expensive and the relative is in fact from the eu herself. She won’t be leaving the uk nor will the dozen or so eu members I work with but unfortunately our wage has not gone up.

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 28/01/2019 18:49

LOL No leaver is going to post on this thread because all the left wing rabid remainers on MN will just rant on about Project Fear.
We all knew the closer we got to escaping the EU the louder the squeals and lies of the minority would be. 🤣 But we are still leaving.

Ok, so tell us how it really is from your point of view then. OP started the thread asking for positives, what are the positives? I'm not being goady, I genuinely would like to hear some positives because pretty much everyone I know IRL is a remainer and is very concerned about what's going to happen so I would welcome another point of view.

TheyBuiltThePyramids · 28/01/2019 18:50

"LOL No leaver is going to post on this thread because all the left wing rabid remainers on MN will just rant on about Project Fear. "

Weve been asking for YEARS for the good news and this is what is always posted. Its not remainers that talk about Project Fear!

That's true Elements grin I hope there's plenty of WD40 to hand in order to keep the guillotines running smoothly!

My aforementioned hoarder DP will trade you a shoebox of half-finished cans of WD40 for a wind-up radio he says.

Andy knew this day would come...

Mousse mousse

When your language is unnecessarily patronising and insulting it’s shows you’ve lost the argument.

bellinisurge · 28/01/2019 18:52

Left wing? Me?. Haven't you twigged it's not a left right thing

PortiaCastis · 28/01/2019 18:53

Wonder how many border staff are actually in other employment or are retired and the border agency are having difficulty recruiting staff

moreofaslummythanyummy · 28/01/2019 18:54

@dontsweatthesmallstuff

Funnily enough that has just happened to a relative. The care home she works in up north has just put her wage up from minimum wage to £9.50 an hour. I wonder if it is for the same reason.

moreofaslummythanyummy · 28/01/2019 18:54

Sorry tagged the wrong name !!

Lweji · 28/01/2019 18:59

It will bring back unicorns?

I'm at a loss otherwise.

Figmentofmyimagination · 28/01/2019 19:01

The ‘will of the people’ will have been delivered, thus avoiding a meltdown in people's confidence in the democratic process? (I don’t actually buy this but it is the TM justification, I think).

Bunnyfuller · 28/01/2019 19:03

Adhering to the Human Rights Act will not be changed by leaving the EU. The EU is an economic entity. Human Rights spans the whole world. You fucking idiots

Bohbell · 28/01/2019 19:05

I’m thinking if anyone DID come up with a positive then it would be discarded of nonsense anyway, such is the hostility toward leave voters.

TheyBuiltThePyramids · 28/01/2019 19:07

Why though - a couple of posters have said about wages going up due to supply issues in the care industry. Thats a positive - for them at least. I wouldn't sneer at that.

Scandaloso · 28/01/2019 19:07

Yes, Baldrick.

kitkatsky · 28/01/2019 19:08

@Bohbell I disagree. I am a remainer, granted, but I haven't seen one positive shared by any leaver (politician or otherwise) that can be backed up with actual facts. Honestly if someone could tell me that everyone will be ok then I'd be happy, but not if the narrative only applies to the most fortunate as that isn't real

Moussemoose · 28/01/2019 19:11

@Freud2

We haven't had an argument.

You said something that was clearly, utterly and totally wrong. You said the EU was an "unelected establishment".

I pointed out that you are incorrect.

See no argument.

Snowy111 · 28/01/2019 19:20

“ sometimes planning permission on big projects is held up because of newts that are rare in Europe but thrive in the UK”

“We pay millions for the EU moving offices”

The above are the only two positives I’ve heard

Better than...

“We are taking back control”

“We just need to get out”

...Which I normally hear

So depressing that no-one can give anything better. Are there any brexiteers with a brain that can possibly explain it?

I just see very privileged politicians who don’t give a shit about the rest of us, rubbing their hands together at how they can benefit from others suffering ie when the economy crashes

malificent7 · 28/01/2019 19:22

I can finally loose some weight due to rationing. Yippie!

Bohbell · 28/01/2019 19:23

We’ll be in a state of flux for ages and then it’ll be up to the elected government to turn things around to our advantage. People voted to leave I’m guessing because they want autonomy and control over immigration. These are the perceived advantages of leaving. Bottom line is we won’t have to live under the threat of a federal Europe growing ever more powerful and not being able to stop it. The positive is our freedom from that. The rest is up for grabs.

PortiaCastis · 28/01/2019 19:23

I spoke to someone at the weekend who was vehemently spouting eu bastards we want our Country back blah blah so I asked him who he voted for in the eu elections for the eu parliament and he said I didn't know there was an eu parliament or mep elections, then I asked him if he voted leave or remain and he replied I didn't vote because I was busy.

I rest my case

JustHereForThePooStories · 28/01/2019 19:28

I’ve had my eye on a holiday home in England (I’m not from, nor do I live in, the UK) which has already dropped 25% in price so hoping Brexit will wipe another £100k off it.

Obviously, not sure what the situation will be in terms of being able to be able to spend enough time in England to use it, but assuming there’ll be some kind of holiday visa arrangement, it’ll be fine.
