I'm That Parent and I'd ask you not to give us a helium balloon. Helium is a finite resource and its needed for other essential purposes.

Ktay · 28/01/2019 12:27

Cancel the cheque!

M3lon · 28/01/2019 12:27

We wouldn't use paints of dubious origin due to the lead poisoning issue that affects basically all products from China.

Balloons of all sorts are a no-no for environmental reasons...as is most plastic tat tbh.

Last party bags we did were brown paper (not plastic) and contained polished sea shells, friendship bracelets made from thread (old school!), a piece of cake, and a personalized cookie.

I do realise this makes us look like utter knobs...but DD is on an environmental bender at the moment and all the food had to be vegetarian too.

GahWhatever · 28/01/2019 12:47

magic painting means that no-one has to stress about paint in the house and fits your theme (also 25% off if you order today with code)
balloon sticks so you can use cheap balloons and no helium

I think your original idea was great, just offering these alternatives in light of comments.

I came on to say Magic Painting. My kids loved it and its such an old school childhood thing.

M3lon · 28/01/2019 12:53

It'd be nice if we could kill the whole party bag BS altogether!

What parent is ever 'ohhh fantastic - a party bag!'

We all hate making them, we all hate our kids receiving them...so maybe we could just...you know...skip them?

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 28/01/2019 12:56

Because kids absolutely love them @M3lon ?

M3lon · 28/01/2019 13:13

kids love a lot of things that aren't good for them now, or aren't good for them later when the climate apocalypse happens. If kids didn't think party bags was a things then they wouldn't miss them would they?

Nicpem1982 · 28/01/2019 13:15

Magic painting is a great idea

As long as we are sure about the balloons WinkGrin

@m3lon i love dping party bags and dd loves to recieve them

Magic painting is a good idea or the painting crayons that you dip in water?

Won't most people have paints & crayons?

mayathebeealldaylong · 28/01/2019 13:42

What's with the balloons Grin I always received a party bag with one sad red balloon.
I love doing party bags, and I never think of the parents or long term use.

The most I do is gluten free cake tray, sliced up in the bag and dairy free chocolate for the ones I know have allergies.

Kids love tat!

M3lon · 28/01/2019 17:39

kids love tat

they don't like seeing it turn up on blue planet though...and they won't appreciate it contaminating their food and water for decades to come either.

Our kids are going to hate us for destroying their world.

TheBigBangRocks · 28/01/2019 17:51

I like everything bar the balloon but love craft stuff and don't care if they want to do it as soon as home. Takes seconds to put a mat down and find some paper.

mayathebeealldaylong · 28/01/2019 19:48

@M3lon you must truly hate yourself too for enjoying once! And probably still do Grin

PaulHollywoodsSexGut · 28/01/2019 20:33

Jesus Christ @M3lon

I appreciate the point you’re making but you’re coming across like a preachy fun vacuum.

Boodledug21 · 28/01/2019 20:46

what about some seeds to grow on, they are dirt cheap (excuse the pun) and a project that has an end product. Choose fast growing things, or fun things like pumpkins.

HellonHeels · 28/01/2019 21:32

So all the following are out:

Helium balloons
Balloons
Cheap paints
Or any paints at all
Slime
Anything messy
Any craft stuff that DCs might want parents to set up for them
Plastic tat
Crayons
Unbranded crayons
Stickers
Marbles
Party bags containing anything other than slice of cake
Party bags not hand crafted from scrap paper
Party bags at all

Sounds great fun!

Punch balloons went down really well with my DS at that age. No helium required but still a risk to wildlife if not disposed of carefully. Amazon have many sellers, I paid around 15p per balloon for a large pack, I had spares that were useful/distraction or rewards.

madeyemoodysmum · 28/01/2019 22:05

Not helium ballon each as helium is in shortage That’s a dreadful waste of helium

mayathebeealldaylong · 28/01/2019 22:50

Just hand out cups of love and good wishes! And by cups I mean ' cup your hands, say some meaningful words and pour that in to each of the child's cupped hands'

Also I hope your not using birthday banners or wrapping paper

SacharissaCrisplock · 28/01/2019 22:57

I think it should be filled with nothing but helium balloons, if possible could you inflate the bag too?

Butterchunks · 29/01/2019 00:52

What about some glow sticks?
