I thought you were going to say that your DC had been sent home with a party bag containing something deeply concerning - a severed hand or a mace spray Shock Grin

What you suggest sounds like a really nice party bag.

KirstyAllsoppsFatterTwin · 28/01/2019 04:34

Anything that isn't complete plastic tat that will end up in landfill within the week is good for me.

Dd went to a rainbow themed party and it was lovely. They played normal games but obviously with a theme. They played the rainbow game where a bottle was placed on a board with all the colours of the rainbow written on tubs around it in a circle. When the bottle landed on a colour they had to go and find an item of that colour within 30 seconds. It was hilarious as parents were taking off shoes, socks and going through hand bags, changing bags etc to find that colour item. It became very competitive Grin
The party was for boy/girl twins and everyone came dressed colourfully. They didn't have party bags but each child was given a bracelet with their name embroidered on. It was beautiful and dd still wears hers 4 years later.

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 28/01/2019 04:43

Oh yeah I forgot to add...

Don't give helium balloons! Grin runs away fast

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 28/01/2019 04:47

And another thing meant to say that the kids were put into that colour team and the winner was whoever filled their tub first I think any way I'm sure you could do a variation of that. Not that you asked.BlushGrin

I once did a fishing party for ds where we all went to a local park with a stocked lake where it was free for children to fish. I bought fishing rods and a tackle box which cost me $15 (I am in the USA) each and then sent all the kids home with the rods/tackle boxes as a party bag. It was way cheaper than a event place and everyone talked about it for years afterwards as their favorite party. (Even though only one child - mine - caught a fish.)

I was stuck for ideas ages ago and saw an ad on FB. There was a scheme where you could rent a canal boat for £40 (it was heavily subsidised by our local authority who wanted more people to use the canal however it's been cut now Angry ). You could have up to 13 people so let dd choose 4 friends and her siblings 1 friend each. We packed some snacks and drinks plus a cake for dd. The driver let the kids each take a turn steering and they loved it. We stopped at a pub for lunch and felt like a d list sleb as everyone was staring Grin. Also everyone you pass waves and points you out. Dh loved it and decided that my idea of a future holiday of just me and him on the canals.was a good one. 2 parents asked me afterwards for the details. Hopefully there are similar schemes around the UK worth looking in to.

The party isn't for ages so i have plenty of time to source things

All entertainment is included in the venue so no games to think up although @sharonbottspoundofgrapes they sound really cool.

Im not giving helium balloons after suggestions on here Smile although nlw do fancy a massive rainbow balloon arch inside the venue.

Im going to keep my eye out for a rainbow themed craftset instead of paints for each child as i dont want parents annoyed.

Why not give one really nice craft thing for £2 and some sweets.

ChasedByBees · 28/01/2019 10:49

I would leave out the balloon, and you don’t need to replace it, you have enough.

Sproutingcorm · 28/01/2019 10:52

Speak out thank you for clarifying

PyongyangKipoerbang you say helium gas for balloons is a by-product of liquid helium; please excuse my ignorance but is it liquid helium that is used in MRI machines etc?

BrylcreamBeret · 28/01/2019 10:55

That's a smashing idea Op, I've picked up some scentos pots of playdough as I like adding a small reusable toy to the masses of sugar Grin

Sproutingcorm · 28/01/2019 10:56

Btw op, I think a rainbow theme is a lovely idea for a party!

I think Sharonbott's idea of bracelets sounds good. Or a craft set as you say that contains different coloured wool or embroidery thread to weave a bracelet perhaps. Or containing beads with rainbow colours?

BlackCatSleeping · 28/01/2019 11:07

For me, not paint or slime or anything messy. We’re a big family and anything messy like that gets binned I’m afraid. I’d prefer pencils and an eraser and notebook.

Wixi · 28/01/2019 11:37

Sounds ideal. My DD9 would love this, although now she is a bit older we give books for the children to read.

Racecardriver · 28/01/2019 11:41

I think that any parent who thinks they can escape paint is deluded. Sounds like a great party bag!

TheOrigFV45 · 28/01/2019 11:46

Nice, but I ditch the balloon for enviro reasons. Kids are all being taught about not using helium these days.

Yabbers · 28/01/2019 11:47

Paint set would go straight in the bin. The brushes are crap and the paints usually really bad quality.

Definitely replace with something scratch arty. If you google scratch art bookmarks, there’s a pack of 12 for about 4 quid.

Yabbers · 28/01/2019 11:49

Will leave the balloon maybe a bag of rainbow drops instead

Brilliant plan. put in an extra bag for mummy 😄

Nicpem1982 · 28/01/2019 11:53

@yabbers they taste like a bag of disappointment

HollowTalk · 28/01/2019 11:58

This is a real example of RTFT, isn't it? She's not giving them balloons, ffs!

bobstersmum · 28/01/2019 12:07

Poundland have a pack of mini crayons that come in a pack of 4 they are great for party bags.

gnushoes · 28/01/2019 12:09

would ditch the helium balloon as there's not that much helium left in the world and we need it for medical supplies. The rest of it sounds fun.

gnushoes · 28/01/2019 12:10

I should have RTFT :)
