To not be able to think of a name for my house?

We live in a 1930's 4 bed semi, on the outskirts of a village but quite a busy main road, there are no amazing plants or trees or anything I can name it after 🤔

I want to name it just because all the houses I've lived in have had names!! Obviously not a grandiose name as it is a pretty standard house 😳

No plants? Not a one?

Something from mythology? Or old Saxon/Norse that has some significance for you?

Talcott2007 · 26/01/2019 19:54

What colour is your kitchen or front door etc? - call it the 'colour' house

Isn't a number easier for the postman?

Howlovely · 26/01/2019 20:05

Are there any distinguishing features at all? Like the last house in the village, end of row, gates etc? My friend lives in a house called Greengates which confuses new postmen because their house has no gates at all. But the neighbour has yep, green gates! Well turquoise I suppose, technically, but a jokey name could be quite fun.

If your house doesn't have a name currently, won't it just confuse the post system and all your neighbours if you change it to a name?

Is it possible that the house used to have a name that you can start to use again?

When we bought our 1930's house I looked through the deeds and found a document from the local authority dated in the late 1930s stating that the house known as "name" would now be given a number instead.

There is a plain glass panel above our front door and as other houses in the street had names in their panels I had the name of the house put there.

I only use the number in my address though.

Or maybe The Cinnamons or Excalibur Cottage Grin

BackBoiler · 26/01/2019 20:30

Keith here too!

Come on though its a semi-detached house on a main road...if you can't think of a name for it why bother!

I call my old silver vw fox Philip!

DropDeadFred99 · 26/01/2019 20:47

Just use the number!

ethelfleda · 26/01/2019 20:48
