To not be able to think of a name for my house?

dingledangles · 26/01/2019 19:48

We live in a 1930's 4 bed semi, on the outskirts of a village but quite a busy main road, there are no amazing plants or trees or anything I can name it after 🤔

I want to name it just because all the houses I've lived in have had names!! Obviously not a grandiose name as it is a pretty standard house 😳

Want to call ours Juniper Hall, we like our gin

ethelfleda · 26/01/2019 20:52

Name it after a boat to confuse the fuck out of people!
Or just a random household object like ‘trousers’ or maybe call it after a celebrity ‘Les Dennis house’ then they’d have to come to the opening or whatever

I saw a house for sale called Dilligaf. Lots of folk thought it was a lovely Scottish name :/

elQuintoConyo · 26/01/2019 21:07

Dingle Dangle Dale.

Vipers Nest.

The Foxes.

Leaf Haven.

Aibu Cottage.

Caseta (= little house)

Forkorf House.

The Felchers.

Bell End.

Pleeeeease keep these suggestions coming, some of these have made me chuckle!

Think I'll go with Keith Red Trousers, if nothing else comes up.

I like the idea of having the name in the glass pane and still using the number. My friend uses the house name and then the number

'The .....'
'38 .....'

dingledangles there are plenty of unused names on the AIBU thread abut a guinea pig name which I can't use, 'I'm happy to donate them to your quest for a house name.

Gandalf has a certain ring to it.

dingledangles · 26/01/2019 21:11

Distinguishing features.... 'bay window'

We live next door to a house called Nonumber. It’s also known as Number 7.

Another vote for 'Keith'.

AJPTaylor · 26/01/2019 21:14

Could you not name it after your childhood home?

dingledangles · 26/01/2019 21:14

Game changer.. bus stop opposite.. could call I 'the bus stop' and really confuse people?

House names are outrageously naff unless they don't have numbers. You might as well go full on naff and call it Dunroamin or Cobwebs.

dingledangles · 26/01/2019 21:17

@3out 😂😂😂

OP posts:
dingledangles · 26/01/2019 21:18

I didn't realise house names were so bad.. literally every house I've lived in has had one even though they've had numbers too!

ItsMEhooray · 26/01/2019 21:18

What you need to do is amalgamate you and your partners names. Like Lynda and Colin = Lyncol House.

Mouikey · 26/01/2019 21:19

Sadly you’ll find that you will have to keep the number!

Also don’t name it a name that is comon or found elsewhere in the locality.

Some LAs don’t allow names at all. Check with you Street naming officer

dingledangles · 26/01/2019 21:19

Lyncol sounds quite good.. our names would sound like we're advertising a children's entertainment company 😂
