Best and worst place you have been on holiday to?!

My best was definitely Canada. Driving through the Rockies was an unforgettable experience and we got perfect weather and lots of lovely food and hotel stops along the way.

The worst has to be Dublin. I was really underwhelmed by it and found it crazy expensive.

Must add, I went to Paris last year and my expectations were low after hearing so much on threads like this about rude people, dogshit everywhere etc.

I have to say, apart from a slightly meh waiter in a creperie, every person I had dealings with was lovely and helpful - including a cafe manager who let us wait in her cafe when our apartment owner was late turning up with the keys and gave us free tea, plus the ticket clerks at the Opera and the Musee d'Orsay who let us pay the lower rate for our teen dds despite our forgetting to bring official ID for them. None of them had to do that. And there is far more dogshit in my local neighbourhood. So don't let threads like this put you off!

Farle, that is shocking! They tried to kick you out of the Vatican?!

This is Lago de Atitlan. It really does look like this as well.

Best- Polperro in South East Cornwall in February. Amazing scenery and fabulous food in the pubs. A roaring log fire in our cottage. It was bliss. Also Venice in April.

Worst. New York. I didn't get it at all. Turgetres in Turkey was awful.

We also go to unspoilt bits of Greece every year as we love it SO much.

rookiemere · 26/01/2019 16:57

Best - Hard to pick but think it has to be West coast Canada, went before DS and also when he was 10 and it's also his favourite holiday even over Disneyworld.

Worst- Rented Camper van in Scottish sleet at Easter was pretty rubbish, but not down to location. I think Albufeira in Portugal was most disappointing as town itself seemed quite grotty. People kept telling us to go to the old town but eithwe didn't find it or it wasn't that great.

Fightingfit2019 · 26/01/2019 16:59

Best- Montenegro and Tenerife (because the kids loved it so much so seeing there enjoyment made it worth while)

Worst- long weekend (3 nights) to Pontins, we left after the first night!

Ragwort · 26/01/2019 17:00

Worst, probably Tunisia & also had a miserable time in Scotland but I am sure that was due to a combination of terrible weather & a really awful s/c cottage.

Best, hard to say probably a touring holiday on the West Coast of USA including camping in Yosemite. Wonderful memories. Also many happy holidays in Cornwall.

DonCorleoneTheThird · 26/01/2019 17:00

Alicante The flight there and back was so dreadful with singing and drinking almost needed counselling after.
that would be the Benidorm crowd Grin

Doubletrouble99 · 26/01/2019 17:02

I love Edinburgh, the scenery, the views, the pubs the food the free museum of Scotland, the zoo, the old town, the new town, the history, the parks, but we only live an hour away so not really a holiday destination for us! So I think Dublin would be really boring in comparison.

I love places like the Alsace in France, the Mosel and parts of the Rhine, beautiful scenery, lovely old villages and the wine there. Found loads of local beer festivals too, what not to like.

@elQuintoConyo

met someone breathtakingly racist in a queue in M&S!

What happened? Shock

FrannySalinger · 26/01/2019 17:04

Best - Rajasthan, India. Worst - Marmaris, Turkey. I absolutely love Turkey, especially Alacati and Istanbul, but that place is a hole.

user1486076969 · 26/01/2019 17:06

Lost of best, too difficult to choose.

Worst - New York

ScandiLady · 26/01/2019 17:06

Best holiday ever was 6 week roadtrip in Australia...
Worst holiday was a weekend in Oslo. Expensive and not much to see or do..
Quite happy to see some have liked their holiday in Copenhagen, my town Smile i work close to the little mermaid so used to guide tourists the right direction...

ScandiLady · 26/01/2019 17:08

Btw used to live in Edinburgh and absolutely loved it...

PierreBezukov · 26/01/2019 17:09

Worst - Switzerland and Gran Canaria.

Best - Probably Germany and North coast of Ireland.

Dublin always takes a hammering on these threads and for good reason - it's totally underwhelming, grubby and overpriced. And I used to live there.

DammitOedipus · 26/01/2019 17:09

I loved Dublin, Florence and Mexico. I hated Paris and Vienna.

puppy23 · 26/01/2019 17:10

Best: Mallorca - both times I've been I've had the best holidays of my life

Honestly can't think of a worst right now, but maybe I've just been lucky? Maybe Tenerife but that's nothing on the place, just those I was with

cuppycakey · 26/01/2019 17:11

Amazing how we are all so different. Many have put Japan as their favourite but I absolutely hated it. I have never felt so unsafe and threatened. I couldn't wait to get out.

Best - Kenya. Friendliest people in the world, staggering beauty, amazing food. Felt totally safe. Also Rome - so beautiful.

SaturdayNext · 26/01/2019 17:12

Best: St Ives, Cornwall. Utterly beautiful whatever the weather, lots to see and do, but as pp say, not in August.

Worst: a static caravan on a campsite in Wales. OK, it was free because in laws owned it, but it was cold, there was no loo in the caravan, the beds were seriously uncomfortable and it was really too small to be in with two small children. Also it always rained, even the time we visited in the middle of a drought.

alltheusernames · 26/01/2019 17:14

Best: Texas road trip
Worst: um can't really think of a bad holiday, we've enjoyed them all, UK doesn't excite me but can be a nice break.

thecatneuterer · 26/01/2019 17:18

Best: Seville.

Worst: Tenerife or Istanbul - I can't decide.

LadyRochfordsIcedGusset · 26/01/2019 17:19

Worst: Tangier, Morocco. Dirty litter-ridden beach, unwelcoming atmosphere, totally ripped off or attempted to in every shop.

Best: Le midi (South of France anywhere)/NYC. And Egypt when they weren't hassling us.

Agree about Kerry Hilda , beautiful county.

GreyGardens88 · 26/01/2019 17:20

Best: Florida (Sanibel island in particular), Italy (Sorrento), France (even Paris), Croatia (Dubrovnik and surrounding area)

I don't think I've had a bad holiday, however the least enjoyable was probably a cruise with parents when I was about 13, awkward age too old for kids stuff too young to drink. The days at sea were really boring

mysteryfairy · 26/01/2019 17:22

Loved every place I went to in California. Cities I’ve loved in Europe are Copenhagen and Krakow.

The grimmest holiday we ever had was a weekend in Skegness but probably don’t need to warn people against that particular destination.

I don’t like Dubai, soulless and exploitative and only go because we have family there. In Europe my least favourite destination city is Paris. I still have to go for work but will never return of my own volition. It’s smelly, has weather almost as poor as uk, rude people, awful hotels and actually feel unsafe on the metro, much more so than in Barcelona.

GreyGardens88 · 26/01/2019 17:22

lol @ the poster who felt threatened in Japan but totally safe in Kenya Hmm

itssquidstella · 26/01/2019 17:24

Best: Costa Rica

Worst: Brussels
