Best and worst place you have been on holiday to?!

My best was definitely Canada. Driving through the Rockies was an unforgettable experience and we got perfect weather and lots of lovely food and hotel stops along the way.

The worst has to be Dublin. I was really underwhelmed by it and found it crazy expensive.

Really want to go back to Sa Riera now :)

JustLurkingAway · 27/01/2019 18:41

Best: Oludeniz, Turkey - One of my favourite places on earth!

Worst (but really not that bad): Tenerife

Spidey66 · 27/01/2019 18:42

Best -Cornwall. Love love love it.
Worst-St Lucia and L.A..

Greenteandchives · 27/01/2019 18:46

Best: Myanmar.
Worst: a boating holiday in Ireland. It was awful and I couldn’t ge5 home fast enough.

KirstyAllsoppsFatterTwin · 27/01/2019 18:50

Really interesting to see so many mentions of St Lucia on the 'worst' list. I have had no opinion of it up until now and I'm not especially gagging to rush back to the Caribbean anyway, but I would have thought St Lucia would have been one of the nicer islands.

User54367823 · 27/01/2019 18:57

I love going on holiday, couldn’t pick a best place. I hardly ever dislike a place.

Worst was definitely Dublin; crowded, dirty, overpriced, rough. It’s a complete shithole.

tinytemper66 · 27/01/2019 18:58

Best was skiing in America as I took two ski trips from school and had a blast.
Worst -Amroth Castle in West Wales and Eurocamp Bernier Rivier (sp) as the caravan was dire. Hadn't changed the toilet seat for an eon for one and it was a very old caravan despite advertising that they had new ones for the new season! I complained and had an oh well sort of reply. Never been back since with that company.

SuziQ10 · 27/01/2019 19:01

Best = island hoping in Thailand

Worst = tie between: cottage holiday in Ireland and city break in Berlin

Frosty66611 · 27/01/2019 19:25

@kirsty I really want someone to come along and say how fantastic St Lucia is as I’ve been researching where to go on holiday this year for months now and thought i’d found the perfect hotel there. Thinking I’m going to have to begin my search again :-(

Poor old Dublin. It’s lovely really. Can see why people would be underwhelmed however.

Favourite is Thailand. We get drawn back there time and time again.
Also love Miami, California, Maldives, South Africa. Have had a lot of lovely holidays.
Worst was Malta but we were poor students at the time. Malta itself was lovely but the hotel was a real shit hole. It’s coloured my opinion somewhat. Equally didn’t love Portugal but only visited one spot.

Somewhereovertheroad · 27/01/2019 19:37

I had a beautiful weekend in Dublin in November. We go several times a year so possibly biased.

I really don't get what people don't like.

I also second skiing in America. Closely followed by skiing in Italy.

Springmachine · 27/01/2019 19:38

Worst - Morocco

Best - Italy (anywhere I've been I've loved)

Close second - Lake District

Arnoldthecat · 27/01/2019 19:40

Worst
Malta and Pafos,Cyprus...

IceTippedMountains · 27/01/2019 19:44

Auckland in NZ, love the rest of NZ but Auckland was so underwhelming, was not very exciting. We were there for 4 days and there was very little to do, we visited the volcano but had to travel to the outskirts of Auckland for some of the sightseeing (Waitomo caves, Waiheke Island etc).

likablum · 27/01/2019 19:50

I don't feel like I've ever had a really terrible holiday. Generally when we go away we are just happy to all be together and not at school/work and we love it.

Fave places include

Vancouver

Scottish highlands especially round aviemore but also the western Isles especially Mull and Skye. Also love the Scottish Borders, and Edinburgh.

Puy du Fou in France - amazing
The Dordogne and Loire

NYC

Belfast

Galway and Connemara in particular

Lake District

kittylovers · 27/01/2019 19:51

Best: Maldives
Worst: kavos Corfu what an absolute hell hole, fuerteventura is a dump couldn't find anywhere that we liked. Portugal wasn't anything liked I expected (except we did like alvor). Lagos reminded me on Blackpool

kittylovers · 27/01/2019 19:53

Another worst - Malta and Gozo, dreadful

Clionba · 27/01/2019 19:56

Why???? Please tell me what is so bad about Malta?!

Frosty66611 · 27/01/2019 20:00

@kittylovers I also hated Kavos. It was a total dump and very Brits abroad. I remember seeing two completely naked drunk young women standing outside a nightclub during the middle of the day handing out flyers to passes by for a foam party that night.

@Frosty66611
I've been to several Caribbean islands, including St Lucia. The beaches aren't the greatest, I guess it depends what you're looking for? For me Jamaica was more picturesque and what I envisioned the Caribbean would look like. I didn't dislike St Lucia but it wouldn't be my first choice and I'd visit other islands over it.

Frosty66611 · 27/01/2019 20:08

@maloofhoof the beaches would be the main thing we’re looking for, and also a really nice hotel with good food. We had initially been looking at Antigua and Dominican Republic but all the best hotels had dodgy reviews regarding the food. The hotel we have found in St Lucia has hundreds of 5 star reviews on tripadvisor and they all rave about the food and how nice the beach is. Worried we’ll go and be really disappointed though (especially as it will be costing us a fair bit)

*Clionba What sort of holiday do you like?

alwaysdressedinyellow · 27/01/2019 20:11

Best - Mauritius - helicopter flight over the island, or the Mayan Riviera.

Worst - Acapulco!

maloofhoof · 27/01/2019 20:12

@Frosty66611 I think you'll be disappointed really as the beaches were such a let down. I loved Dominican Republic, one of my favourite holidays. Beautiful beaches and lovely people. I'm a fussy eater but had no issues with food and certainly no dodgy stomachs. I think if you're going 5* in the Caribbean the food is usually really good. Where abouts in St Lucia are you thinking of?

Thisnamechanger · 27/01/2019 20:12

I adore Greece. It's chaotic but in a lovely way and all the food is my favorite.

I've not had a bad holiday but I did find the Swiss quite unfriendly in the place I went to.
