A) if you were in the USA
B) if you were not in the USA.

I just saw my first one (tourist, on holiday). And was a bit surprised by how eeeeewww I felt.

I wonder if those calling racist, thick etc. actually now anything about the other side of the American political coin?

Neither person was a good person to vote for.

InionEile · 27/01/2019 19:53

Yes, I do BoneyBack. I know some of the parents at my son's school voted for Trump and were anti-Hillary and had conversations with them about it (response: I don't want to pay for other people's kids to go to college and I don't want terrorists coming into our country).

Other friends of mine have parents or other relatives who are Trump voters and we discuss all the time how hard it is to be around them because of their awful views.

Also some of DH's American relatives voted for Trump and I discussed it with them - couldn't get much sense out of them as to why. They mentioned something about welfare not being the right choice for black people Hmm and people being fed up of not getting a fair chance in life Hmm. Then they told me I lived in a 'Blue Bubble' here in California.

Which is true but I like my blue bubble and have nothing but contempt for the people who are willing to tolerate misogyny, racism, xenophobia, incitement to violence, corruption, indictments, nepotism and tax cuts for the rich just because they are terrified of people with brown skin.

So yeah. I do know the other side and from what I can see, it's pretty shite, hence my original response.

InionIlie so what exactly are you saying, are you calling the women who accused Bill Clinton of sexual assault liars? Are you saying Hillary did NOT remain silent on the matter? What planet are you from?

How is one sexual assault any worse or better than any other? They most certainly are on the same level and cut from the same cloth! They are smooth liars, those Clinton's. That's the only difference. Bill did in fact rape and try to rape women. He stuck a cigar up a 22 year old's vagina when he was President of the United States. He is not a good man and neither is Trump. You are way out of line and very sick to be calling those women liars!

BlackCatSleeping · 27/01/2019 21:31

InionEile, I think she meant the other side, the Clinton side. I think most MNers know about how awful Trump supporters are, but I genuinely don’t get how people can support the Clintons. And people really do support them and refuse to acknowledge any of the allegations against them and I don’t get that either, because that is also a kind of willful ignorance.

tillytrotter1 · 27/01/2019 21:34

I needed parmesan, thanks for the reminder! (We refer to MAGA as the parmesan motto.)

icebearforpresident · 27/01/2019 21:44

I’d think at best they were idiots who don’t understand that no matter how bad their situation someone is worse, and that someone is almost certainly a woman, child or person of colour. Who doesn’t understand that different is not bad. At worst I would think they were a cunt.

I live within 5miles of one of trumps hotels. He was here recently and everyone is convinced he is going to save the town, he’s gave all these local people and contractors job and he will basically be the hero of us all. Except the hotel is failing and people forget he is notorious for not paying his contractors. Despite this my view that he, and the people he emboldens, are a threat to us all is not popular here.

AcrossthePond55 · 27/01/2019 22:28

I live in a 'blue' state and it's pretty rare to see a MAGA hat-wearer 'in the wild' here but we do see them on the news at rallies and such. I just think they're ignorant, racist gits. And they probably think I'm a 'feminazi' when I wear a pink pussy hat. Fair enough, but I know which I'd rather be!

If I saw someone in a foreign country wearing one my very first thought would be to wonder if they have any idea what the hat actually represents. My second thought would be that they're ignorant, racist gits if they do!

ChildofGod92 · 28/01/2019 02:15

You know who I wish would run? Michelle Obama. You put Hillary or Melania next to her and I think you could really see the difference in authenticity. I obviously don't know Mrs. Obama I just really admire her. She always looks beautiful and she never publicly broke or even bent at the horrible, stupid things people would say about them. I'd actually run to the polls to vote for her. She's probably too smart to run though.

Mr. Obama is OK. Like his wife he did a good job of keeping it classy for the most part. But I always thought the real strength came from Michelle. I know she's not perfect I just think she's spectacular.

Barryallen · 28/01/2019 02:26

I feel the same way as AlbertWinestein!
I also live in the States (Democrat East Coast) and have only ever seen the odd elderly white man wearing an actual hat. Makes me feel ill tbh!
If I’m driving and I’m behind a pick up truck with a bumper sticker I have an irrational urge to slam into the back of them!
If I was back visiting in the UK and saw someone wearing one I’d be surprised but still assume they were a complete moron;)

MaterialisticMandy · 28/01/2019 02:40

I would think they were being ironic or that they were being deliberately provocative and making a joke.

I wouldn't be offended or upset.

LookAtThatCritter · 28/01/2019 03:23

Moved to USA from England and live in the south. See them quite often but I don’t actually judge people on their political views so it doesn’t bother me at all.

BlackCatSleeping · 28/01/2019 04:07

I guess this is my issue with Trump supporters. I know a Trump supporter and she really is a nice woman and she’s done a lot to help me in the past. However, from her Facebook posts I can see now that she is deeply bigoted and that does really bother me. Should I just ignore the bigoted side of her? Because I used to consider her a friend, but I just can’t anymore. How can I be friends with someone who’s racist? Someone who hates gay people? For me, it’s about more than just politics. It shows who a person is inside.

justilou1 · 28/01/2019 04:19

Saw someone in Australia wearing I ❤️Trump badges while feeding pigeons. Two reasons to assume they were mentally unstable and to leave them to it.

HeronLanyon · 28/01/2019 04:28

In my late 20s I accepted that differing politics were not necessarily any bar to deep friendships and love (before that I was too self centred, single minded, to understand this - have quite radical politics).

There is however, I would think, a spectrum for us all, no matter our views , and a tipping point where difference becomes too much to accept personally re friendship/love/respect.

Maga is the wrong side of that tipping point for me although I have some maga family in the states. They are family - we just know we have huge differences and try our damndest to avoid getting entangled in discussing.

Can’t imagine being wholly indifferent to political positions of others, for me, but accept some are !
