A) if you were in the USA
B) if you were not in the USA.

I just saw my first one (tourist, on holiday). And was a bit surprised by how eeeeewww I felt.

If there was something like a school fete and someone's dad turned up with a Britain First pro-Brexit t-shirt on then how would people feel?

Would you genuinely think, "Oh, that's nice that he feels comfortable sharing his political views in such a public way"?

Or would you feel he's probably a goady, racist twat?

It's a fact of life that people judge each other. That dad may be a really great guy who does loads for charity. But there's something really concerning that he feels that it's appropriate to wear such a t-shirt in a public setting where he knows it's going to spark a reaction in people. It takes a certain mentality to do that.

ChildofGod92 · 25/01/2019 13:55

Right Blackcat, I don't necessarily disagree. In my view life is so beset with worries and injustice of different levels of relevance with some things I can change others I can't, as far as what others choose to wear and why I tend to shake my head and keep moving I don't really have time for all that.

SushiMonster · 25/01/2019 13:57

I’d be pleased that they had marked themselves out as an ignorant hick so I could avoid them. Much like any Vote Leave merchandise.

Bluestitch · 25/01/2019 14:01

I would think Trump supporter but not much else tbh. It's been interesting following the Covington kids scandal and how immediately vast swarms of the media jumped to conclusions and created an entire narrative based in part on the wearing of these hats which, thanks to extensive video footage turned out to be largely false.

mothertruck3r · 25/01/2019 14:19

That they were entitled to their opinion and thankfully we have freedom of expression in the west where you can wear a MAGA hat or a pussy hat without being arrested.

TheCounter · 25/01/2019 14:30

''HenronLanyon I was the one who said I would be concerned for my sexual safety around a man wearing a maga hat. Maga politics don’t exactly have, at their core, respect for women or andeveloped understanding of women’s rights''

It's a hat. It has a slogan that was used to promote the current POTIS.
Quite a lot of perfectly reasonable people bought into it id assume. Enough to get The Donald elected.
If you genuinely fear for your personal safety/well-being around that percentage of people, I'd suggest the problem lies with you. Not them.(I doubt you'd attract much interest at all tbh)Confused

Ps I dislike the man and I dislike his politics but I dislike those that choose to demonize others because they hold differing political views MUCH more.
They're the ones we should really be afraid of!

TheCounter · 25/01/2019 14:48

*POTUS....Dunno what a POTIS is but feel free to wear a hat supporting it if you do.

haverhill · 25/01/2019 14:53

a) Person of highly questionable judgement, possibly racist.
b) as above, or someone trying to be provocative in the same way punks wore swastikas, or just a twat.

MrsTerryPratcett · 25/01/2019 15:32

That they were entitled to their opinion and thankfully we have freedom of expression in the west where you can wear a MAGA hat or a pussy hat without being arrested.

I'm curious as to whether people would have said the same about Moseley's Brown Shirts. They were 'just shirts' after all. And the Battle of Cable Street? Was it wrong because people fought against them?

planespotting · 25/01/2019 16:35

I would point out that is January and maybe a beany is a smarter choice

Mumberjack · 25/01/2019 16:36

A) prick
B) prick

HeronLanyon · 25/01/2019 23:20

Thanks the counter for that lovely aside. First time insulted on mumsnet. Feel honoured.

trumpdump · 26/01/2019 06:56

Sadly, Trump will win again in 2020, and this thread shows why.

BusySnipingOnCallOfDuty · 26/01/2019 07:03

I love in a highly conservative constituency, and was shocked and upset that in the pharmacy attached to our very naice doctors surgery, there was a pink glittery one on top of their tiling cabinet. I loudly spoke of the reason it was vastly inappropriate for it to be there, every visit. It's gone now. But it actually really got to me.

BusySnipingOnCallOfDuty · 26/01/2019 07:03

Live ffs

InionEile · 26/01/2019 07:07

In the USA - ignorant redneck trailer trash who is fine with white supremacy, Nazis, corruption, indictment of major Trump associates, government shutdown, children kept in prison camps on the border and tax cuts for the rich

Outside the USA - redneck trailer trash who won the lottery and finally could afford to get a passport and travel OR a provocateur, along the lines of Milo et al

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 26/01/2019 09:33

No he won’t be on the position to run in 2020. Will probably be someone worse though.

userschmoozer · 26/01/2019 09:35

Mike Pence is waiting in the wings and the left don't have anyone who stands out as a contender.
God have mercy on us all.

BlackCatSleeping · 26/01/2019 09:35

I don't think he will run again. He looks bored shitless of the whole thing already. He will come up with an excuse though.

Lifeisabeach09 · 26/01/2019 09:41

I don't agree with their politics but persons are allowed to believe what they want. Were they being offensive, loud, obnoxious? No, they were wearing a baseball cap.
Crossing the street to avoid was OTT-they aren't lepers.

Lifeisabeach09 · 26/01/2019 09:48

I was the one who said I would be concerned for my sexual safety around a man wearing a maga hat. Maga politics don’t exactly have, at their core, respect for women or andeveloped understanding of women’s rights'.

This is ridiculous. Trump supporters are rapists now?!

Raspberry88 · 26/01/2019 11:10

redneck trailer trash
Ah, the kind of class prejudice that allowed Trump to be elected in the first place.

HeronLanyon · 26/01/2019 14:38

Lifeisabeach -
I didn’t say that
I don’t think that
I think what I wrote
As a criminal defence barrister (uk) I am all too aware of correlation (not causation) between men’s views (the whole spectrum obviously) of women and women’s resulting level of danger of violence from men. Don’t think that is anything other than obvious uncontroversial knowledge ??
Thanks for totally misreading my post for your own pleasure.

TheCounter · 26/01/2019 19:59

Would a condom worn in place of that hat suffice to reduce your 'sexual safety' anxieties?
Practicing 'sexual safety' could be a thing..i suppose

Daisy03 · 26/01/2019 20:06

We were in the holocaust museum in DC this year and there was a whole school party all wearing them. They were extremely disrespectful in particular regarding the theme of the museum, bad enough that I noted their school and emailed them with a complaint as soon as I got home, I never received a response.
It has stuck with me as I hoped better for younger generations but made me feel nothing has moved on.
I did use it as a learning experience for my own children however
