To be so emotionally invested in other women’s bras?

Just that really. (This is lighthearted before I get any ‘haven’t you got any bigger problems’ comments)

I’m just about constantly worried about whether other women are wearing the right size bra. None of them seem to be. In a group I’m in on FB a women was getting annoyed by suggestions she wasn’t a 38D. There was a picture of her whole body, she was a size 8/10 and her boobs were quite clearly bigger than than mine (32FF/G). She just wouldn’t have it despite everyone being quite kind and just wanting to help.

My size 8/10 SIL insists she’s been measured and she’s a 36C. I can see from looking at her that it’s clearly wrong. I asked her how she can be a 36 at size 8/10 and I’m a 32 at 12/14 but she won’t accept she needs to measure differently. Every time bras are mentioned anywhere I feel compelled to leap in with a booborbust link like some crazed bra pixie.

The ridiculous old school add 4 inches or whatever they’re still doing in M&S and Debenhams needs to stop, it’s doing women no favours. How many women must be uncomfortable and bra hating because they’re nowhere near the right size? I feel like there needs to be some mass PR campaign to teach women and the shops that only stock 32A to 44DD how sizes actually work.

So your superpower is that you can tell my bra doesn't fit by looking? There must be a way you can monetize this, using a webcam. You need a fancy name for your service. Grin

Keell · 24/01/2019 12:38

I am currently in a too-small bra that digs in. It's not because I am ignorant about sizing. It's because I can't afford £35 for a bigger one.

BuffaloCauliflower · 24/01/2019 12:39

@userschmoozer it sound be a fantastic superpower but really it’s just common sense. If a 5”2 14st woman was insisting she was really a size 8 most people would probably question that too.

BuffaloCauliflower · 24/01/2019 12:39

@Keell you wouldn’t argue it actually fits you correctly though would you? You know it doesn’t.

I'm 32GG/H and I don't think I've ever paid £35 for a bra.

Keell · 24/01/2019 12:43

No, but I don't want anyone pointing out that it doesn't fit because then I would end up announcing I can't afford underwear. I can tell it doesn't fit by the sensation that it is stabbing me to death.

Flowersonthewall · 24/01/2019 12:43

I feel the same! There is someone i see at a club and she always has 4 boobs 🙈 I just want to do a boob intervention!

BillywilliamV · 24/01/2019 12:45

Well fitting bras are the entire basis of a functional society.

Bluntness100 · 24/01/2019 12:46

It's simply something I never notice nor care about. I find your obsession a bit odd really.

GerryblewuptheER · 24/01/2019 12:46

I get why to an extent.

I crammed myself into the wring size for years due to the myth that I couldn't possibly be any bigger as I don't realise cup size was also proportionate to band size.

But I guess people trust their local m&s or just assume their bras fit and everyone who has popped up since to do fitting just wants to sell you an expensive bra.

Keell · 24/01/2019 12:48

I can't afford £28 for a bra either. Or any other sum. And my knickers have holes in. Buying new underwear now would be totally frivolous expenditure for me, no matter how bargainous.

Coralnails · 24/01/2019 12:51

As long as you're wearing the right size who cares what everyone else is doing.

BillywigSting · 24/01/2019 12:55

I also can't really afford a bra that fits properly.

I'm supposed to be a 32E. Nowhere near me stocks this size. The smallest back size is a 34 and the smallest back size for an e cup is 36.

So I put up with a 34 d. They're two for a tenner instead of £15 each

GreenEggsHamandChips · 24/01/2019 13:00

Size 12 and a 32-43C/D. Bravissimo confirmed it and couldnt fit me with a better fitting one than my £4 primark one. Anything else digs in and is horrifically uncomfortable.

As long as they are comfortable I'd back off, the teeny tiny band giant boob doesnt work for everyone.

MikeUniformMike · 24/01/2019 13:00

Have you considered making a career out of your bra sizing skills?
The right size means you are more comfortable and look nicer in your clothes.

Fairylea · 24/01/2019 13:02

I am the same as you op. Blush

Sometimes when I am out and about I see a woman who is clearly in the wrong sized bra and I have to fight the urge to go and tell her to get measured properly (I never, ever actually say anything, it just really makes me feel like I want to!)

I’m a 30GG and no one can ever believe I’m that size...!

CaptainCabinets · 24/01/2019 13:03

Is the FB group Boob or Bust? I left that group because of the Little Hitler mentality of the mods and most of the members. Smile

Huntawaymama · 24/01/2019 13:09

I don't always think he exact measurements work with everyone's bodies though, for example, I'm a 10/12, I went to get measured and she insisted I was a 32DD, I said that didn't sounds right and my band should be bigger and I didn't want the band to dig in and show any bumps in my tight tops. I bought the ones she said but sure enough in a tight top there are bumps, it didn't feel uncomfortable but didn't look good (my thinking is that you shouldn't really be able to see a band when someone's got their top on) so I went back and bought some 34Cs. Nice and perky at the front and fits smoothly over my back with no bumps on show

MikeUniformMike · 24/01/2019 13:13

In reply to the nowhere stocks 32E and £35 posters - try M&S Outlet/clearance or TKMaxx. You will usually find some. I've found cheap, pretty larger cup bras in Tesco for about £3. They may be in unusual colours.
I am intrigued by 32-43C/D

Racecardriver · 24/01/2019 13:13

In Australia they have a brilliant system where instead of 32 or whatever they use your top size. Makes it much easier to buy. They also advise to buy them so that they are tight even if it means going a size down because they will stretch out so leaving extra room is the dumbest thing ever.

GreyHare · 24/01/2019 13:15

See I don't hold with the 'don't add 4 inches to get the band' because if I didn't add then I wouldn't be able to breathe and the back fat splodge and spillage would be revolting, so I stick with the traditional method and wear my comfy bra thank you very muchly.

Racecardriver · 24/01/2019 13:17

@billywigsting John Lewis do a very comfy Tshirt bra fit that price which you can get online. John Lewis bras in general are actually very good for the price.

Racecardriver · 24/01/2019 13:18

@greyhare modern bras stretch out after the first couple of wears unless they are pure silk or pure cotton.

BuffaloCauliflower · 24/01/2019 13:18

@BillywilliamV exactly my point

@Keell I would never comment on a random women’s bra just out of context, or without them bringing it up in some way.

@BillywigSting - online has a huge range, is that not an option?

@CaptainCabinets - no it was a breastfeeding group, hence lots of pics of women with their boobs out, and she was talking about a certain nursing bra she’s bought and the sizes, so it was a conversation very much in context.

OP posts:
BuffaloCauliflower · 24/01/2019 13:20

@GreyHare that probably means you need a bigger cup, not a bigger band, and bras do take a little bit of wearing in, like shoes.
