Hangovers!!!

I have name changed for this...

I like a drink of a weekend, I admit I am a binge drinker! It completely writes off the next whole day though!

Just curious if there are any “hangover cures” that actually work?

Please don’t put “drink less” - You sound boring! Wink

No YOU sound boring. (Sorry, couldn't help myself Wink)

At least a pint of water and two aspirin before bed. Also stick to one drink, ideally not a spirit, and nothing too sugary.

Raffles1981 · 23/01/2019 17:59

I always found a pint of water before bed, keep a glass and some aspirin by your bed. I always woke before six and would glugg down the water and pills before another sleep. Always helped me. Oh! And a mars bar and some cheese and onion crisps about midday if I could stomach it. But that may not work for you Wink

ComtesseDeSpair · 23/01/2019 18:01

Thirding the pint of water and painkillers before bed. I drink a lot and haven’t had a hangover in years: combination of the water and no doubt tolerance.

FurryDogMother · 23/01/2019 18:02

2 Alka-Seltzer in a pint of water before bed, and the same on waking.

FromEden · 23/01/2019 18:03

Drink water in between drinks too, not just before bed. It's usually too late by then!

RedPandaMama · 23/01/2019 18:04

2 paracetamol and loads of water before bed, then a banana and more water and paracetamol when you wake up. Feel loads better by 9/10am x

Drum2018 · 23/01/2019 18:07

Glass of water between drinks. If you can remember to have a berocca or similar when you get home it may help. Sachet of dioralyte for the morning. Paracetamol before bed. Problem is when you come in drunk you tend not to think of these things. Leave them out on the bedside locker with a pint of water before you go out. I'm boring - I got so fed up feeling rough after a night out that I gave up alcohol. Best decision ever Grin

Processedpea · 23/01/2019 18:09

You could drop party smart pills

FromEden · 23/01/2019 18:15

Paracetamol should be avoided when drinking, it's hard on the liver as it is, even worse with alcohol. Stick to ibuprofen

Monthsontherun · 23/01/2019 18:16

Honestly why is suggesting you drink less 'boring'? Don't you consider it a waste writing off whole days because you can't or don't moderate your drink consumption? Feeling dreadful on purpose seems very counterintuitive.

Monthsontherun · 23/01/2019 18:18

Comtesse intrigued that you drink, I saw you on a thread earlier saying you were a triathlete, aren't the two rather at odds with one another?

rolex142 · 23/01/2019 18:18

First thing next morning, down a pint of water. Make yourself sick, eat something carby- I like 2x potato waffles covered in salt, they are easy to bring up again. Fizzy juice. More water. Maybe make yourself sick again. If you are able, have a nap and you're as good as new!

IamFrauBlucher · 23/01/2019 18:19

If I can, (and i haven't fallen asleep in just my bra, on top of the bed Blush) I try to make some toast and cheese and a nice hot cup of tea before I go to bed.

Then I have a big bottle of water and nurofen handy at the bedside just in case i wake with the dreaded dull ache.

I also find keeping the window open and a bit of fresh air in the bedroom whilst sleeping helps me recover.

IJustLostTheGame · 23/01/2019 18:21

Pint of water and ibuprofen before sleeping.
In the morning have eggs for breakfast. Or kippers. And full fat coke and water with rehydration salts in.

Pfingstrose · 23/01/2019 18:23

Drinking less is way less boring than being bedridden with a horrible hangover, surely?! Hmm

Doghorsechicken · 23/01/2019 18:25

I down at least 2 pints of water before bed!

BabyDarlingDollfaceHoney · 23/01/2019 18:28

Yes, drinking soft drinks in between alcoholic drinks, not mixing drinks, avoiding caffeine, plenty of water before bed, eat a meal with your alcoholic drinks. Most of the effects if a hangover are dehydration (often coupled with lack of quality sleep) I think so water really is the main one.

BabyDarlingDollfaceHoney · 23/01/2019 18:29

But in all honesty I agree with PP... Being hungover is far more boring than drinking less!

BabyDarlingDollfaceHoney · 23/01/2019 18:33

Sorry last thing, I reeeeally wouldn't recommend Ibuprofen as people have been saying. Alcohol is already a gastric irritant so adding another one on top (Ibuprofen) isn't wise! Will definitely contribute to the acidy nausea of the hangover, even if it does help your head.

cojmum · 23/01/2019 18:38

Having something carby before bed and lots of water

ArieltheMermaid1720 · 23/01/2019 18:46

Dioralyte, pint of water and 2 nurofen before bed. I used to get the worst hangovers and this works incredibly well for me. Nothing will take away the tiredness though.

Monthsontherun · 23/01/2019 18:52

Make yourself sick?? Seriously....

Ivegotthree · 23/01/2019 18:56

drinking beer or spirits rather than wine makes ALL the difference.

Then go for a long ish run the next day. Well, at least half an hour, ideally an hour, and you will be cured!

FromEden · 23/01/2019 19:07

Yeah nothing like a bit of bulimia as a hangover cure Shock

Strokethefurrywall · 23/01/2019 19:15

Here we have the option of a banana bag IV which is like an infusion of life after a big night, it's a shame is so bloody expensive.

I don't really drink much on a regular basis (like once a quarter!) but when I do have a massive night, I eat everything the next day, usually starting with eggy bread and Coke. Followed a few hours later with some kind of steak pie and rounded off a few hours after that with a curry.

Basically all the carbs, all the time. And multiple mugs of tea.
