Hangovers!!!

forevertiredandaching · 23/01/2019 16:12

I have name changed for this...

I like a drink of a weekend, I admit I am a binge drinker! It completely writes off the next whole day though!

Just curious if there are any “hangover cures” that actually work?

Please don’t put “drink less” - You sound boring! Wink

Try having milk thistle (effervescent tablets from Holland & B) before going out. Friend recommended them. I haven't had a bad hangover since doing this, though I don't drink too much any more either. Something about coating your liver/preventing too much alcohol absorption I think.

Monthsontherun · 23/01/2019 19:23

Bizarre advice

Monthsontherun · 23/01/2019 19:24

Sorry, the bulimic type post

Lemoneeza · 23/01/2019 19:27

make yourself sick if you can.

down as much water as you can and take co codamol before bed. ibuprofen and more water if you wake in the night.

cold shower. bacon and tomato sandwich with sugary tea. go for a walk.
I don't miss my drinking days!

HeyMicky · 23/01/2019 19:31

Squash is better than plain water - 2 glasses before bed. Then water by the bed for when you wake up followed by a can of proper coke and a cup of tea - rehydration and sugars, basically

Winebottle · 23/01/2019 20:03

Water before bed and carbs in the morning. If you are not feeling better by midday, have another couple of drinks.

Corpuscle2 · 23/01/2019 20:04

Firstly DON'T take paracetamol like people are saying. Combined with alcohol it'll damage your liver even further and you'll feel worse.

The best is taking a tablet of N-acetyl-cysteine whilst drinking. Commonly known as NAC. It will help metabolise the toxic byproduct of alcohol alot faster. Honestly try it.

DontCallMeCharlotte · 23/01/2019 20:08

If you don't manage the pre-bed water and painkillers, then it's a bacon roll and full fat Coke in the morning. Failsafe.

3WildOnes · 23/01/2019 20:25

If you live in London you can get an iv to cure your hangover quickly. I’ve never used but I hear they are amazing, pricey too unfortunately!

stopitandtidyupp · 23/01/2019 20:30

My friend used to swear by milk thistle.

Food, water, bananas and lots of sleep.

Firstty · 23/01/2019 20:37

Some completely wrong advice on this thread. Paracetamol CAN be taken with alcohol, ibuprofen CANNOT.

Please don't be stupid enough to take a strangers word for it (including mine) - read the instructions on your drug packets

starzig · 23/01/2019 20:38

On holiday, a swimming pool usually works (colder the better) but back home I can't get myself out of the house with a hangover to get there but if you can get up and out you could give it a go.

FromEden · 23/01/2019 20:44

All my paracetamol products say don't take if you've had 4 or more alcoholic drinks

Zoomzoomzoomzoom0 · 23/01/2019 20:45

Starzig I came on to say the same, a jump in the sea if possible, the colder the better. The shock will cure you or kill you Smile
Also banana, cranberry juice and ice in a blender, works wonders for the nausea

CottonSock · 23/01/2019 20:50

Squash and a few gaviscon tablets at bedtime. A sleeping tablet if I have not drunk a silly amount. Otherwise not recommended.
Diet coke in morning and shower, plus breakfast of carbs. If it's really bad (or it's holiday or Christmas), hair of the dog

Ethel80 · 23/01/2019 20:58

Taking a sleeping tablet is the silliest suggestion yet, wtf!

Also, making yourself sick to feel better when pissed doesn't mean you're bulimic. Sometimes you really do feel better once you've puked.

I always try and drink a pint of water when I get home then berocca in the morning once I can stomach it. Then carbs, carbs and more carbs. Also, strawberry milk.

I drink very rarely but when I do I hit it hard. I like being drunk and the occasional brutal hangover is mostly worth it.

FromEden · 23/01/2019 20:59

Cold shower also works if a pool or sea aren't nearby

itsbritneybiatches · 23/01/2019 21:04

Bed. Maccies. Netflix.

Repeat till it's dark

wombatron · 23/01/2019 21:09

Haha ohhhh my friends used to mock me but I was always well prepared and much better off than them. Before going out I'd put 3 pints of squash on the windowsill next to my bed (so they would stay cold, it was a big sticky out of the building feature window with a table type windowsill). I'd make myself 2 sandwiches also, one cheese and one just bread and butter and put 4 ibuprofen on the windowsill next to it all.

Like clockwork I'd come home wrecked, drunkenly eat (read scoff) the cheese sandwich, down 1 pint of squash and 2 of the ibuprofen. 1 pint of squash was for the inevitable mid snooze wake up, down that would go, then the final pint of squash, bread and butter and last 2 ibuprofen were for when I woke up. I wouldn't say I was always the freshest, but it certainly made getting up before mid afternoon possible and easier.

If I'd been dumb and mixed drinks I usually just did a tactical chunder when I got home to get the worst of it out.

I have no need to do it these days as I don't drink so much, but I do stick to clear spirits when I do so as to avoid a nasty death hangover.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 23/01/2019 21:10

Cocodamol on top of lots of alcohol Lemoneeza? Isn't that dangerous? The time my husband was prescribed it he was told to avoid alcohol completely.

wombatron · 23/01/2019 21:11

Sorry, paracetamol not ibuprofen Shock

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 23/01/2019 21:11

Pre hydrate - make sure you drink loads of water during the day so at least you're not dehydrated before you start

I always find if I eat something before I go to bed I feel a lot better in the morning. Egg on toast is good

Coconut water has a lot if vitamins and electrolytes that your body loses in a hangover so is supposed to help hydrate you more than water

ACoverIsNotTheBook · 23/01/2019 21:13

Pint of water and dioralyte before bed
Wake up usually around 5/6 for a berocca and 2 paracetamol
More sleep
Wake up around 10- food and a Diet Coke
Sex
Lots more sex
Shower
Start to feel human around lunchtime!

It’s the dioralyte before bed and second sleep after the berocca and painkillers makes the biggest difference for me but the rest all adds up!

Holidayshopping · 23/01/2019 21:14

If you can keep tea and toast down-that’s good, plus some painkillers.

Pint of water the night before.

Pot noodle, cold coke and bacon crisps in the afternoon. Curry or roast for dinner with a glass of red wine and then early to bed!

GertrudeWilloughby · 23/01/2019 21:14

Please don’t put “drink less” - You sound boring!

Ah, the cry of the drinker accusing someone who doesn't drink much of being "boring" Grin
