Indeed Flipping telling us we are all functioning alcoholics Hmm

thebeesknees123 · 22/01/2019 19:56

I can drink a bottle but it's mostly half or a bit over. Dh can be a sanctimonious twat over alcohol and thinks it's excessive

LaurelAndMardy · 22/01/2019 19:56

I don’t think I could, but just because I can’t have more than 2/3 glasses of wine at once. 5 G&Ts yes. 5 glasses of wine no. Weird.

BIWI · 22/01/2019 19:57

There was a thread recently asking people how long it would take them to polish off a litre bottle of gin.

I kid you not, one of the answers was '2 years'.

I decided it was better not to post Grin

Screamish · 22/01/2019 19:58

Shall we all be friends? Grin

x2boys · 22/01/2019 19:58

Yes I read that one BIWI I also didn't post Grin

Flippingheck44 · 22/01/2019 19:58

Looks like I have found a fellow wino community tonight!

Aria2015 · 22/01/2019 19:59

Yeah I drink a bottle over the course of an evening. It's about 6 prosecco glasses worth. I mainly drink prosecco and it’s hard to keep if you leave some so it's only right and proper that I should consume a whole bottle Wink

Cheerymom · 22/01/2019 19:59

A bottle is a normal portion to me.

Easily done, before, during and after dinner.

I don't get the huge damnation of this level of drinking on MN.

Surely it depends on how often this happens.

I also love to get merrily drunk. Again not unhealthy if within the recommended limits.

If by bottle you mean the individual ones I think they are 250ml, then yes. Have not drank a standard bottle of wine since I was 15/16.

Wolfiefan · 22/01/2019 20:02

I love wine. I couldn’t drink a whole bottle without feeling bloody awful.
If you do it once a year then fine but it’s a huge binge and not good at all.

BarbaraofSevillle · 22/01/2019 20:02

You can't win with alcohol consumption. Before I found gin, I used to drink one bottle of cava over a Friday and Saturday night, and maybe one pint of lager if we went out for a meal, so just under the weekly units recommendation.

I filled in some questionnaire and it told me I was binge drinking because I had 5 units a night for 2 nights a week. My weekly alcohol consumption was fine, but too much in one go. You need to spread it out more, but you also need to have at least 2 consecutive alcohol free days per week.

So it seems that the only acceptable way to drink a bottle of wine is to drink one glass per night for 4/5 nights a week, otherwise you are binge drinking on any day that you might think about having a second glass Confused.

CottonSock · 22/01/2019 20:02

A bottle is a portion, because once it's open it is impossible to leave any. Then I don't sleep and feel shit. Which is why I'm switching to gin.

TheHumanSatsuma · 22/01/2019 20:03

Are you not supposed to then?

Eliza9917 · 22/01/2019 20:05

At least it's wine. I can polish off a whole litre bottle of vodka in a night.

ScoobyCan · 22/01/2019 20:07

I've had such a shit day I've got a stress headache so my second (teensy tiny) bottle of Christmas beer isn't going down very well. Fortunately I have a glass and a half of red in a bottle right here - I'm thinking kill or cure?

ScoobyCan · 22/01/2019 20:08

@Aria2015 - Prosecco goes off in the fridge overnight. Fact. Best to drink in one sitting (or standing if you're making tea and supervising homework).

IcedPurple · 22/01/2019 20:09

I can polish off a whole litre bottle of vodka in a night.*

Seriously?

Twuntsrule · 22/01/2019 20:09

Just the one bottle, sweetie darling? Pish-posh!

confusedandemployed · 22/01/2019 20:13

I'm 3/4 of the bottle down. A bottle is definitely a normal portion.... In fact, it's not quite enough is it?!

@BIWI....2 years??!!! 😯 A litre bottle of gin is the standard for a gossipy night in with your mate, no?!

CountFosco · 22/01/2019 20:13

I think a bottle is for sharing so half a bottle is a portion. We never finish a bottle these days sadly so Sunday night is left over wine night.

PuppyMonkey · 22/01/2019 20:14

Hmmm, I’m also a huge wine fan but I couldn’t drink a whole bottle in one sitting. I have a ‘three glasses then stop’ rule otherwise I’d feel like complete shit the next day.

Is there something wrong with me? Grin

Laska2Meryls · 22/01/2019 20:15

one and a half glasses ... but that was the end of a bottle which is now .empty Sad .. and i'm not supposed to be drinking at all as diet doesn't allow it .. Its not snowing , but it is ruddy cold and the shop is a good 10min walk.. I cant drive , as I have had some ..so it looks like Brew for me now then

There is some white in the shed i think, but I've had red so thats out .. (didnt think that one through)

Elledouble · 22/01/2019 20:19

I’ve been on a health kick recently so I’m very out of practice Blush I drank a bottle of wine on Friday night and was so drunk I flashed my boob at my friend in the pub...
