To think the only people who want 'Nn Deal' have no idea what this means?

And don't believe you if you tell them. Facts and laws just seem to be wafted away as irrelevant.

@Greensleeves

But I didn’t vote for it, so can’t very well own it.

KennDodd · 24/01/2019 22:48

Oh, God, Question Time. I bet they'll all be cheering about how great 'No Deal' is and Airbus and Ford can just fuck off.

Never cheered for No Deal? “Could accept No Deal in a vague way”? Now advising departure?

That is actually hilarious.

And also strangely appropriate, since this exactly mirrors many prominent leading Brexiteers who blithely skim over evidence of what they said/did, now advocate something else entirely, and at the same time arrange to jump off the sinking ship that they scuppered in the first place.

User758172 · 24/01/2019 22:50

@TheElementsSong

I voted to Remain Wink

TheElementsSong · 24/01/2019 22:51

And bitterly regretted it.

I do! I regret the whole thing ever having taken place. I wish I’d had no part in it. I disagree with another referendum in principle so thought about voting Leave to uphold the original result, but I doubt that’ll come to pass.

What? Grin

Quietrebel · 24/01/2019 23:07

I don’t see any way out of this situation, any solution that everyone is happy with.

Well then it's quite simple: if there's going to be discontent ANYWAY, better have it whilst safe in the EU. Therefore REVOKE.

TheElementsSong · 24/01/2019 23:08

You do know that people can see your posts on other threads past and current, right?

User758172 · 24/01/2019 23:08

Do you want Parliament to decide that, or a second referendum?

User758172 · 24/01/2019 23:09

@TheElementsSong

You don’t say.

Buteo · 24/01/2019 23:10

MrsAriadne I’ve not agreed with much that you’ve said at all - and especially not with your repetition of the “no deal is better than a bad deal” mantra.

And, oh look, on another thread you’re saying you’d vote Leave in a second referendum? Yet you’re saying on this thread the UK is fucked and anyone that can get out should do that? Confused

TheElementsSong · 24/01/2019 23:11

Like I said, very appropriate mirror for leading Brexiteers.

User758172 · 24/01/2019 23:16

@Buteo

And, oh look, on another thread you’re saying you’d vote Leave in a second referendum?

Because I disagree with another referendum in principle. Otherwise what was the point in the first?

Yet you’re saying on this thread the UK is fucked and anyone that can get out should do that?

I believe it is, and was long before the referendum anyway. I don’t think it’s a bad idea to get out if you can.

RedToothBrush · 24/01/2019 23:17

MrsAriadneOliver I hate to point it out, but whether you admit it or not you do care what happens now. You wouldn’t be posting on this thread if you didn't care. Your main feeling is about a frustration with the whole damn thing and having been let down by everyone who has created this unholy mess. And I think just about everyone shares the sentiment of just wanting it over. But as I say, it's just not going to be. Whether we leave under no deal now or we have an extension or we revoke. It's permeated every level of society and politics and will colour everything for a generation now.

It can not be turned off.

We can not begin to move forward until we face up to all these things - the over use of emotive appeals in politics, the irresponsibly of politicians, the poor quality of debate, the unwillingness of politicians to take responsibility for their actions, their unwillingness to come clean about stuff and instead hide behind spin, euphemisms and slogans, the over simplification of politics, a fundamental lack of understanding of what democracy is and isnt... I could carry on.

You can not take the attitude that actually I don't like this so I'm going to run and hide and bury my head in the sand and hope it goes away right now.

It won't.

FWIW I'm GLAD you care - even if you deny it and are in some sort of despair about it. It's better than total and complete apathy... And you aren't there. Yet.

User758172 · 24/01/2019 23:17

@TheElementsSong

Not really. Not what I voted for.

Buteo · 24/01/2019 23:21

Ok, so you initially voted Remain, don’t believe in a second referendum (let me guess, cos democracy, right?), would now vote Leave, no deal is better than a bad deal, short term pain for long term gain, blah blah blah.

So many nice little sound bites wrapped up in there Hmm Forgive
me for being just a tad cynical.

Quietrebel · 24/01/2019 23:30

@mrsariadne
Since you ask, I'd prefer the people to have a vote (obviously preferably remain). Failing that, revoke.

hardplacerock · 24/01/2019 23:31

If you want no deal you have to take responsibility for what you have voted for.

User758172 · 24/01/2019 23:33

@RedToothBrush

Thank you Smile

You’re right of course. I care very deeply, but it’s easier to tell yourself you don’t, and hope to eventually believe it, when you can see no way forward. Our politicians are so self-interested and self-serving, our media is so duplicitous, there are so many economic, financial and social problems facing us that they seem insurmountable. I suppose I should stop posting on these threads. I’ve lost any hope that the UK can recover and I’m sure my negativity is aggravating to you.

It’s hard to see what we as individuals can do. I genuinely admire your stoicism, I admire you for refusing to give in to despair. I do wish I could summon up some of your positivity for myself.

User758172 · 24/01/2019 23:36

@Quietrebel

Thanks for answering, genuinely wanted to know.

RedToothBrush · 24/01/2019 23:43

I’m sure my negativity is aggravating to you.

Actually I think voicing your absolute disgust and despair is important. And I think it more positive than you might realise.

Lone voices are not and never are lone voices on the internet. It's something I've long learnt and it's something that has a surprising power.

There is value in just saying how you feel, and working through that. It's not about necessarily finding a solution. There is relief simply in knowing others have similar views. And you aren't alone in them.

I don't know. I just think that continuing to keep talking is important. It might not change anything. It's not necessarily the point and value of it anyway.

People don't have to agree on everything, but unless we keep talking we are never going to find a way forward either.

I do think Remainers and leavers have more in common than they realise, it's just that they are often effectively speaking different languages and don't understand each other. We do need to breakthrough that. You can't do that if you aren't prepared to ever engage in conversation.

missesbiggens · 24/01/2019 23:57

Dear god, the echo chamber is expanding outwards. This thread needs to go in the brexit pit with the rest of them. Same old posters, same old fear peddling, same old doom mongering. If you want to be governed by an ever expanding, barely elected supranational body then there are 27 countries just waiting for your visa application on March 30th.
