Is there anyone who just eats normally?

I can't believe the amount of threads where the OP claims to eat only a boiled spinach shake for breakfast, plain cous cous for dinner and a salmon fillet with veg for tea. With of course, only an apple as a snack in between.

Is there anyone like me who just has a bowl of cornflakes for breakfast, a meal deal for lunch and then whatever I can be arsed putting in the oven for tea? I'm beginning to wonder if I'm massively unhealthy in comparison to most or whether people are just making this up.

Kalifornia I LOVE Star Bars! I didn't know you could still get them!

DandilionBreak · 22/01/2019 14:36

I think I eat normally. It's normal for me, anyway.
A normal breakfast for me is toast with either a poached egg or some cheese spread, maybe even cheese on toast, or just spread and marmite. Always toast though.
Lunch can be anything - I work from home so sometimes it's leftovers, sometimes it's soup, or a sandwich, or a baked spud. Today it was the scrag ends of the vegetables left from last week's shop (did a veg run today so needed the fridge space) added to some dried noodles, chilli sauce and stock to make a spicy noodle soup/stew. It was a bit odd but very filling!
Dinners vary, depending on what we're doing. It could be a full meal, or it could just as easily be baked beans on toast or a supermarket pizza.

I do try to get the 5 -10 portions of fruit and veg in as many times a week as possible, but sometimes I get to the end of the day and realise I've had nothing green at all. That's just life.

Tigerblue · 22/01/2019 14:37

All I can say, is they must be starving. So far, I've had:

Porridge
Black coffee and biscuit
Last night's spag bol leftovers
An apple
Four chocolates
Currently tea and a danish pastry
Probably an orange
Had a bit of a day, so tonight we might have fish and chips (which is rare for us)

As you've guessed I'm always eating, but as I'm generally active (ie always on the go) in the day I'm approx 7st7lbs.

NotUmbongoUnchained · 22/01/2019 14:37

red I had a tiny salad for lunch today Grin

oohyoudevilyou · 22/01/2019 14:37

Breakfast: Slice of toast and jam
Elevenses: Club, Kitkat or similar
Lunch: Cheese and tomato sandwich, 2 clementines
Afternoon: Bag of crisps
Dinner: Chilli, rice and a mango for pud
Snack: Crunch corner yoghurt

This was yesterdays food, along with about 8 cups of coffee (milk, 1 sugar). It's a perfectly normal day for me...possibly a bit spartan as no alcohol. Probably why I'm a stone overweight and have been since I had my last baby, 14 years ago.

KaliforniaDreamz · 22/01/2019 14:38

IfNotNowThenWhy they really are the best chocolate bar
(co-op)

Karigan195 · 22/01/2019 14:38

Breakfast 1 banana, fudge yoghurt and crunchy note cornflakes :)

Snacks fruit and rich tea biscuits

Lunch: chicken bacon emmental toastie

But then I am pregnant and every time I feel hungry I’m getting horrible ms so half of it’s come back up again so fuck it.....

Asta19 · 22/01/2019 14:38

A typical day for me is:

B-A slice of Brioche with butter and jam! I know, probably a million calories in that one slice! But I like it Grin
L - To be fair I don't eat a lot at lunchtime. I'm working from home and don't get that hungry. Maybe some cheese and crackers, toast or some fruit.
D - Maybe pasta, meat or fish and veg, pork ramen (I eat this a lot in winter)
Sometimes a desert if I fancy it or a bit of chocolate.

Once a week I make an ice cream milkshake with half a tub of Ben and Jerrys (cookie dough), a kinder beuno and some milk blended up! I love those! Hence why I limit myself to one a week!

I was always slim but last year put on weight due to medication. Also I'm getting older and heading into menopause which probably doesn't help. It's likely I could lose the excess by going on a strict diet but I just don't want to!

PinkHeart5914 · 22/01/2019 14:39

Thing is everyone has a different normal.

Breakfast here is always toast/porridge/cereal apart from weekends when we have eggs, pancakes or bacon

Lunch is either leftovers from dinner the night before or sandwich/soup/omelette

Dinner is rarely a bung in the oven affair as I love cooking as does dh so it’s always home cooked food

Snacks sometimes I have none, others I have a few

I love food and always eat what I want just watch portion sizes when looking to lose weight

BigGlasses · 22/01/2019 14:39

My normal would be:

B: nothing or weetabix, milk, and drizzle of honey
S: wotsits and cup of tea
L: roll with chicken and lettuce, yoghurt, apple, tangerine, diet coke
S: numerous cups of tea
D: spag bol/chicken casserole/sausage&mash sort of meal
S: tea and couple (maybe 5?) choc digestives

This is average day, quite often there is a slice of cake or glass or 2 of wine if it's someones birthday or I go out after work

Peanutss · 22/01/2019 14:39

Okay okay, normal was not the right word. Let's move on.

Someone could post saying they've had an apple and plain rice for dinner, is this too much? and you'd still get posters telling them that they are clearly over eating because all they've had is dust for lunch.

It's like competitive healthy/under eating. It's bizarre and I feel often exaggerated.

NotUmbongoUnchained - no, no, no, a tiny salad will just not pass muster on MNGrin.

Pipo174 · 22/01/2019 14:40

I eat normally but also like to have spinach etc smoothies too :)

Breakfast - toast, orange juice
Snacks, nuts, banana
Lunch - peanut butter sandwich, yoguart, crisps (usually have some sort of salad / roasted veg etc)
Tea - panacelty

KlutzyDraconequus · 22/01/2019 14:41

On Saturday just gone I went to Morrisons and had a Big Daddy breakfast.
3 eggs
3 bacon
4 sausage
Fried bread
2 Toast
Mushrooms
Beans
3 hashbrowns
1 tomato

Best £6 I've spent for a while, it was gorgeous.

But I wouldn't be mentioning that in a thread where people are looking for healthy diet advice etc.
That's when most people talk about their healthy diets.

WunderBlah · 22/01/2019 14:41

B - toast n marmalade, many coffees
L - cheese n pickle sandwich
D - Shepherd's Pie if I can be arsed making it or Spicy beanburgers n chips with some form of vegetable side.

I am and always will be, in the manner of Bridget Jones, a little bit fat.

WunderBlah · 22/01/2019 14:42

I could be less fat but will be a whole lot grumpier, there's a clear payoff.

viques · 22/01/2019 14:43

This thread has cheered me up. I was doing well today

Porridge for breakfast
2 egg herb omelette with spinach and tomato for lunch.

Then I blew it with a massive chewy oatcakey cookie from Sainsbury that I bought because they were reduced (because we all know when they reduce the prices It automatically reduces the fat, sugar and calories as well)

Hey ho. Haven't even thought about supper yet, I wonder if there is a teeny tiny salmon fillet in the freezer I could grill with a bit of quinoa and serve with a squeeze of lemon juice.......

IfNotNowThenWhy · 22/01/2019 14:43

Oh there is sooo much competitive under eating on MN. And carbs are bad, and do you know how much sugar there is in fruit?!
Anyway, I'm off to the Co op ..

BollocksToBrexit · 22/01/2019 14:44

I always have a good, healthy breakfast but then it's all down hill from there. So, so far today ~

Breakfast ~ boiled egg followed by greek yogurt with chopped pineapple
Lunch ~ pancakes with nutella
Second Lunch ~ half a pack of shortbread biscuits
Dinner ~ as yet unknown

Ragaroo · 22/01/2019 14:44

Me, I'm preggers so nothing is off the menu lol (apart from the usual!) Meal deals and oven meals are the staple foods of a busy mum! But agree with above post, I'd only post about my food if I was on a diet etc. and it was occupying my mind.

KaliforniaDreamz · 22/01/2019 14:45

the only competition here is how fast you can get that Star Bar down you

Peanutss · 22/01/2019 14:45

I could be less fat but will be a whole lot grumpier, there's a clear payoff

Grin Grin

viques

We've all blown it at some point on some huge chocolatey (or equivalent) piece if heaven and then instantly regretted it, don't let anyone make you feel guilty Grin

I think it's quite sad if you genuinely believe your diet is "normal" so should be what the average people chose to eat.

I have kids, the "normal" diet for them is to eat plenty of veg, fruits and dairy as a base, meat, fish or eggs and drink water. I do an online shop so I have a rough menu in my head each week.

For other families, I guess "normal" is take away and junk food.

If my kids were living off salads they would bored and starving. If they were living off junk food they would be fat. Normal for me is not to give them junk food or sandwiches every day.

So BU for thinking you are normal. You would not be so BU if you had said you can't be bothered to think too much about food and eat what is convenient for you!

KaliforniaDreamz · 22/01/2019 14:49

i mentioned to my friend (who's a PT) that i am wanting to lose 3-4lbs
she tells me to keep a food diary

basically i have to stick to 1200 cals to slowly lose weight

it is so boring

but when she can watch my intake (via myfitnesspal) it is quite an eye opener to see how little she eats in comparison, and i really wouldn't say i was greedy.

ok maybe i am

TeacupDrama · 22/01/2019 14:49

my normal is during the day numerous cups of coffee (i'm a steady bit overweight but not gaining)

8am breakfast 2 cups of coffee, 2 slices wholemeal or seeded bread with butter and marmalade sometimes yogurt and fruit

1pm lunch soup and crackers and cheese and an apple or maybe if working from home a big salad or jacket potato or scrambled egg on toast

3.30pm snack and chat with DD when she comes in from school fruit and a biscuit

6.30pm dinner tonight pork casserole with potatoes and peas we rarely eat meat free but sometimes like spaghetti carbonara it is just a bit
2-3 times a week we will have pudding
2-3 squares dark chocolate with after dinner coffee if no pudding
will have wine or cider with dinner at weekends

i don't have green smoothies hot water and turmeric or whatever the latest magic drink is
