Is there anyone who just eats normally?

Peanutss · 22/01/2019 13:46

I can't believe the amount of threads where the OP claims to eat only a boiled spinach shake for breakfast, plain cous cous for dinner and a salmon fillet with veg for tea. With of course, only an apple as a snack in between.

Is there anyone like me who just has a bowl of cornflakes for breakfast, a meal deal for lunch and then whatever I can be arsed putting in the oven for tea? I'm beginning to wonder if I'm massively unhealthy in comparison to most or whether people are just making this up.

Perhaps I should have specified that my response was light hearted goodwinter

I don't genuinely believe people should go round drinking redbull for lunch.

Just because it’s popular, doesn’t mean you need to do it

WunderBlah · 22/01/2019 15:33

I like sushi for lunch sometimes too but there is probably too much rice involved for that to pass the food judgement challenge.

StartedEarly · 22/01/2019 15:34

One square of 70% dark choc

I think that says it all Grin

goodwinter · 22/01/2019 15:34

My apologies if I'm taking lighthearted comments too seriously, OP. this kind of thing just hits a nerve with me!

JinglingHellsBells · 22/01/2019 15:34

If by normal OP you are trying to defend your own poor choices of food which will, in time, perhaps contribute to your own ill health, fine.

Maybe instead you could ask for support on how to improve your own diet? No medals for eating rubbish Hmm

WunderBlah · 22/01/2019 15:36

Having an unhealthy diet and treating your body badly is not something to be proud of

Thing is I consider omitting food groups unhealthy and nothing to be proud of but it is waved as a virtue flag to all those who are less interested in punishment food. Live and let live!

JinglingHellsBells · 22/01/2019 15:36

@Startedearly- and what is wrong with 1 square of choc? :)

Perfectly adequate and reduces sugar consumption.

Oh I see, you've not been listening to the news about the diabetes and obesity epidemic.

DonCorleoneTheThird · 22/01/2019 15:37

And this idea that you have to stuff "veg" into every meal whether it goes or not. Whether you want it or not.

well you clearly don't cook for kids. As a parent, someone need to feed them properly, and do the thinking for them, making sure they eat the right food without even thinking about it.

Re: the sandwiches, even in my office people don't really eat them. I never said they are banned, but most people seem to have soup, heat leftovers, bring back some meal they heat in the kitchen, or just go out.

Yes, the most popular item sold in Pret or M&S food is probably a sandwich Hmm it doesn't mean everybody eats a sandwich every day! Grin
It's also true that we have a very real obesity problem in this country, so talking about what many people eat doesn't make it normal, let alone healthy!

I would be very shit parent if I was giving a sandwich to my kids every lunch of the week. That might be "normal" in some circles, with crisps, sausage rolls, squash for drink and chocolate for pudding, but it's still a poor and lazy lunch.

Peanutss · 22/01/2019 15:37

Okay well clearly this thread has turned into the exact type of guilt trip I was referring to!

I'm not asking for any medals. Neither have I ever said I believe my diet is healthy. No I don't think I'm hugely unhealthy and no I'm not over weight but I know I could eat a lot healthier.

It was a light hearted thread asking if there is anyone who doesn't take what they eat so intensely seriously as some people on MN seem to.

Goodwinter if it hit a nerve I apologise, I don't know your reasonings, but I know it wasn't my intention to offend you with my comments.

Which food groups has anyone said they omit in order to eat healthily?

Yeah, live and let live and let the poor tax payer pay for amputations due to diabetes, drugs running into billions of pounds for the same, no beds or drs to treat diseases that are not self inflicted.

Right.

cantfindname · 22/01/2019 15:38

Very frustrating that I eat a LOT less than many of you, plus look after my daughter's horses which is 2 - 3 hours a day of fairly hard physical work. Yet I am the one who is overweight..

Life just isn't fair Grin

Peanutss · 22/01/2019 15:39

PS. I'm a grown woman who can eat a sandwich for lunch if I want without being scolded. But thanks.

Yeh i did and it's the reason I got fat and now having to bloody diet which I hate.

My sister on the other hand can eat whatever she likes when she likes and never gains weight she's a 6 all the time. Lucky bint but she's defo pretty unhealthy and I wouldn't like to see what's going on in her insides.

At the end of the day if you are eating what you want and not gaining or losing weight you have got it down to a fine art of having equal calories in versus out which is what alot of people on the threads you refer to are trying to figure out.

WunderBlah · 22/01/2019 15:39

I would be very shit parent if I was giving a sandwich to my kids every lunch of the week. Shock

speakout · 22/01/2019 15:40

What's normal though?

JinglingHellsBells · 22/01/2019 15:40

Why does eating healthily have to be 'serious'?
Eating healthily can be enjoyable and fun.

And if you don't take your health seriously, before long you will wish you had. You get one life. if you want to fuck up with a poor diet, your choice, but the rest of us will pay for your drugs and medical care.

smallgirlproblems · 22/01/2019 15:41

I was anorexic for about 7 years and wasted loads of my teenage/early 20 years worrying about food and counting (not very many)calories. Now I eat what I want within reason. My biggest vices are diet coke and chocolate - its nearing a UN state of emergency if those aren't in the house...but I eat fruit, veg, dairy, carbs, pizza everything else (although I don't eat fried food or drink tea or coffee) and have been a healthy weight for about 15 years.

EnoughSnowAlready · 22/01/2019 15:41

It's nice to know that people who give their children a sandwich for lunch are 'very shit parents'. That seems a proportional response to a perfectly normal lunch item.

DonCorleoneTheThird · 22/01/2019 15:41

PS. I'm a grown woman who can eat a sandwich for lunch if I want without being scolded. But thanks.

you are the one starting a thread mocking or judging people who don't, so don't moan about replies not agreeing with you. They are lighthearted replies you know Smile

How has a sandwich suddenly included crisps, sausage rolls, squash and chocolate pudding?

I consider myself to have a fairly balanced diet most of the time... but room for indulgence too!

Today I actually had
Porridge (big bowl) with full fat milk, stir in some peanut butter and top with blueberries
Two slices wholemeal toast with proper butter
A banana
An apple
Veg soup with brown rice
Three chocolate biscuits
A soy yoghurt
Houmous and whole grain crackers
For dinner it’s fishcakes, chips and mushy peas.
I’m a size 10 and 5’7”

I love food. It’s one of my absolute favourite things and I Iove to cook.

Celebelly · 22/01/2019 15:42

Where does a crisp sandwich fall on this spectrum? God it's been years since I had one of those.

Who knew sandwiches could be so controversial!

ethelfleda · 22/01/2019 15:42

What’s wrong with a sarnie??
God with all the bleating about us not getting enough fibre - wholemeal bread is something we should be eating more of!!

Peanutss · 22/01/2019 15:43

I'm not judging anyone for eating healthily. I'm judging you for your superior attitude because you have a healthy diet as if that gives you the right to jump on people who don't give as much of a toss about having a bag of crisps for lunch.
