Is there anyone who just eats normally?

I can't believe the amount of threads where the OP claims to eat only a boiled spinach shake for breakfast, plain cous cous for dinner and a salmon fillet with veg for tea. With of course, only an apple as a snack in between.

Is there anyone like me who just has a bowl of cornflakes for breakfast, a meal deal for lunch and then whatever I can be arsed putting in the oven for tea? I'm beginning to wonder if I'm massively unhealthy in comparison to most or whether people are just making this up.

Breakfast: toast + butter x 2 and a cup of tea
Snack: Yoghurt and banana with muesli
Lunch: a giant double scoop ice cream
snack: sliced cucumber, red pepper
Snack: Piece of bread with peanut butter and butter
Dinner: spicy rice and vegetable stir-fry
Snack: Apple

I eat whatever the hell I feel like, but rarely anything processed. I stay slim whatever I eat so I basically just eat what I fancy. Can be a bit random!

Rockybooboo · 23/01/2019 21:06

I agree Peanuts and also I hate the name calling (lazy). Some days I don't eat as well as I could do but I exercise, work, maintain a house, look after my child, volunterrand keep up with friends and family.

WendyCope · 23/01/2019 21:12

You see, I really don't find chocolate and 'indulgence', I really, really, can take it or leave it. Agree with Maria.

My personal eating habits are what I like, nothing more, nothing less.

I can't believe the crap some people profess to eat, just like posters on here can't believe the healthy stuff that other people choose to eat.

Only thing that upsets me a bit is I have to curb my pasta addiction a bit. I can't eat as much as I want to anymore, since the menopause and I spend 4 months of the year in a bikini and want to continue to do so into my 50's and don't want that typical 'menopause' thick waist.

But it really isn't 'a sacrifice' in the general scheme of things. I eat what I want, just heakthily. To feel and look my best and enjoy life with my small DD.

I couldn't eat a bar of chocolate if you paid me. I hate it.

I always feel like a piglet when I read those threads. Today I had

Breakfast
1 slide toast and peanut butter for breakfast + coffee
Fruit salad at work

Lunch
Salt beef sarnie

Snacks
Snaffled some left over crisps in the office + a small choc brownie square
apple
Small bag of popcorn
Marshmallow bar

Dinner
3 egg omlette with ham, mushrooms and tomato
2 biscuits

I snack way too much between meals and can't walk past a bowl of crisps without picking at them.

It's not rocket science why I am not skinny yet!

genius1308 · 23/01/2019 21:14

@EdWinchester is it? I know it's not brilliant, I don't really like fruit, but all main meals are made from scratch and I do eat veg Wink

mogloveseggs · 23/01/2019 21:22

2 crumpets for breakfast
10am layered mango, yoghurt and oat jar i made for my tea at work last night but didn't eat as the chef made me a massive burger
Packet hula hoops
Bar dairy milk
Crusty bread with veg soup for lunch
2 slices toast and a bowl of shreddies just now.
Rubbish i know but that's the way my days off pan out when I've been on a late.
Kids had pizza for tea, dh has had nothing-too tired

a “diploma” in TalkinShite

Comedy gold Grin

This is so true, all the bullshit surrounding popular food myths is usually a money making marketing ploy and it is astounding how many fall for it hook line and sinker. It is almost as annoying as those stupid bits of wood or slate hipsters try to serve food on. All this delicate/smashed/crushed/pulled/panfried/artisan ridiculousness is just to sell, just glorified repackaged nonsense!

If folk want to follow a trend that''s their business but lording it over someone else who is happily minding their own snackalicious business, calling them names and spouting ignorant bullshit like a toxic firehose is just bad manners.

It is such a shame there are so many people with eating disorders. they are really brave to come on this thread and talk about it.

To the people who are intent on passing judgement in an incredibly mean way can you not see from these brave people how damaging it is to perpetuate food flagellation/obsession?

MariaNovella · 23/01/2019 21:40

I’m not sure I ever eat junk food. Unless you count homemade puddings as junk food.

SW6mama · 23/01/2019 21:50

Jeez. I don’t think that’s normal, I don’t know anyone that eats the amount of junk you lot shove away.

WunderBlah · 23/01/2019 22:02

btw dinner today was pastrami n cheese dangerwich with leftover baked beans.

This means my total today was 5 slices bread, butter, marmalade, cheese, pickle, pastrami, baked beans, 3 coffees and a couple of glasses of water. Just not that hungry, ate what i wanted when I felt like it and totally happy with it.

Some weeks a loaf of bread will go nearly untouched in this house, other times it's dangerwich central. The point is the food is varied, yummy and balances itself out over all, no good/bad/punishment/guilt just eat what you fancy. I might have an orange or a peppermint tea before bed, no stress is the route to happy.

AFistfulofDolores1 · 23/01/2019 22:08

@KittyVonCatsworth - I totally hear you. If I start to eat sugar regularly: bloating and abdominal pain. If I drink too much caffeine: emotional waves of doom. If I eat too many processed carbs: constipation. If I drink too much wine: sleeplessness. My body certainly keeps me in check! I'm also hyper-sensitised to what's going on - I'm a bit of a Princess and the Pea - so I'd rather try to avoid that. The upside is that my weight remains relatively stable (a variance of a couple of kilos, unless I swing way out of balance, which is rarely), and my digestion works like clockwork.

KlutzyDraconequus · 23/01/2019 22:10

food myths is usually a money making marketing ploy and it is astounding how many fall for it hook line and sinker.

The two most famous ous food myths, in my opinion anyway:

"You must drink 2litres if water a day"
Bullshit. Many years ago it was recommend people took in 8glasses of water, most of which would come from food. But these days every dick and his dog has a permanent water bottle attached to their hand.. even buying expensive refillable ones to make sure they're constantly hydrated and running to the loo for the 20 piss of the day.

"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day"
Bullshit.
Breakfast as we know it didn't exist for thousands of years. The importance of breakfast started getting pushed by the makers of cereals, good old Kellogg, and the makers of American bacon.

StellaRockafella · 23/01/2019 22:12

I'm wondering why it's considered poncey to mention if something is organic?

Pretty much everything I eat is organic as it's really important to me how things have been raised/produced particularly with regards to eggs, fish and meat, so it would be a natural inclusion in a post about what I've eaten.

WunderBlah · 23/01/2019 22:15

An egg is an egg is an egg.

So say egg.

When you say a grain fed free range organic mormon chicken jedi egg I think you are trying a bit hard to tell me something about you and not about an egg.

KlutzyDraconequus · 23/01/2019 22:22

Stella
I can't talk for everyone but I find people banging on about how fantastic organic is for them are actually be a bit dim and have done zero actual research for themselves. They think the 'organic' label and higher price automatically makes things better, it doesnt.

There's been various studies that show organic produce has no provable health benefits over non organic, one of the most comprehensive was by Stanford University.

Ginburee · 23/01/2019 22:23

I gave up slimming world last year at the age of 45 and am learning how to eat normally/mindfully for me.
I have been doing slimming world since the age of 8 so it is a huge learning curve and I am really enjoying tasting and enjoying food.

TatianaLarina · 23/01/2019 22:25

I disagree about eggs - not all eggs are equal. I’m not vegan or even vegetarian, but an organic egg is from a happyish chicken, free range can have up to 9 birds per sq m, and the rest don’t bear thinking about. So there’s a massive difference.

ShowMeTheKittens · 23/01/2019 22:31

4 teas , 1 proper coffee, 2 Morrisons cheese English toasted muffins,
a few chips and some lemon breaded fish and peas with lots of tartare sauce and bread and butter. My partner made my dinner on a tray. It was lovely ... so kind of him as he is tired, he's learned to cook as I have been very ill due to stress.
I am finding it a bit hard to eat lately so it's nice to be given dinner.

EnoughSnowAlready · 23/01/2019 22:39

Surely if everything you eat is organic there's no need to mention it because it's just your norm.

WunderBlah · 23/01/2019 22:40

not all eggs are equal. I’m not vegan or even vegetarian, but an organic egg is from a happyish chicken, free range can have up to 9 birds per sq m, and the rest don’t bear thinking about. So there’s a massive difference.

The difference is you choosing to share this, using a simple food question as an opportunity to preach and pass judgement instead of just answering egg n chips

KissingInTheRain · 23/01/2019 22:41

Jeez. I don’t think that’s normal, I don’t know anyone that eats the amount of junk you lot shove away.

You can always tell when someone knows nothing about food and health when they throw the word ‘junk’ around.

EnoughSnowAlready · 23/01/2019 22:42

Even if it isn't your norm I'm not sure that I see any need to specify that it's organic personally.

WunderBlah · 23/01/2019 22:42

ShowMeTheKittens aww that's really nice, sounds like you managed to eat well.

KissingInTheRain · 23/01/2019 22:50

But these days every dick and his dog has a permanent water bottle attached to their hand...

This one really gets my goat. It’s bullshit ‘science’, the water slurping is fucking irritating, and if you point out that it’s a waste of time the slurpers start making up bogus medical conditions like “I get headaches if I don’t hydrate frequently”.

Bollocks, the whole lot of it.

browneyes77 · 23/01/2019 22:53

"Breakfast is the most important meal of the day"
Bullshit.

I’ve always said the same thing.
