I hate Cheshire

In light of the I hate surrey... I decided to start one for where I’ve just moved from. Moving away gave me more perspective.

Not all of Cheshire is like this, just the East of the county and closer to Manchester/Macclesfield and the illustrious “Golden Triangle”.

People in these areas, seem to me, to all be;
obsessed with interior design, spend a ridiculous amount of money on new sofas etc almost yearly
Live in fake period dwellings that are hugely massive
Drive big f off cars like a Landrover
May have a house in France
Try and do everything to appear to be upper class
attempt to Keep up with the Joneses

The funny thing is, that I went to comp school with lots of these people. They married well and now completely forget they are normal, and spend all day looking down their noses at people.

Always braying

I would take dcs to their private day school and see the huge brand new 4x4 turn up and their little “Sapphire and Penolopy” would tottle off in pristine clothing. The mums would talk about their big new extension and go for coffees etc How they are going to Florida

Everything is look at me, look at me.

Yes I am being unreasonable, but that’s life Wink

If it’s anything like The Real Housewives of Cheshire then YANBU in the slightest

Thiswayorthatway · 21/01/2019 22:01

It's not all like that. Normal people like me live here.

KC225 · 21/01/2019 22:01

I bloody love real housewives of Cheshire. It's hilarious.

Tutlefru · 21/01/2019 22:03

it’s not that bad. Grin

RHOC?! Yeah that’s not a true representation of Cheshire. Grin

InstagramBitch · 21/01/2019 22:04

I also live in Cheshire but I'm not originally from here. I find the part I live in quite fur coat no knickers, and that the locals have a higher opinion of the area than it actually deserves because "it's Cheshire ergo it's posh"

I've seen more social deprivation here than I saw in an area outside Cheshire I lived in with a reputation for it.

EffYouSeeKaye · 21/01/2019 22:05

Sounds like parts of Essex. Rather similar to most affluent areas, perhaps?

M0reGinPlease · 21/01/2019 22:08

What you describe is not confined to Cheshire.

lastqueenofscotland · 21/01/2019 22:09

Isn’t like.... Stalybridge technically in Cheshire, definitely not posh Grin

LuckyLou7 · 21/01/2019 22:11

I think most affluent areas are like this, where a lot of the residents seem to place more value on expensive cars, designer clothes, handbags, exotic holidays and being seen in all the right places, than actually getting on and enjoying life. I'd hate to live my life being in constant competition with my friends and neighbours, ever fearful of being seen not to measure up.

DevaDiva · 21/01/2019 22:12

I live in Cheshire in an area that lots of people assume is 'posh' and it's nothing like that! Like many parts of the UK there is extreme wealth next to poverty and the full spectrum in between.

I just choose to ignore the ostentatious w@nkers and seek out the good people (plenty of them), plus I sit in the middle of the spectrum so don't move in those circles anyway, which makes them easier to avoid Grin

LuckyLou7 · 21/01/2019 22:13

@lastqueenofscotland Staly Vegas is definitely not posh. Cracking night out back in the day though Wink

ChikiTIKI · 21/01/2019 22:14

There's a higher than normal percentage of people like that here but still the vast majority of people here are quite normal.

supergrains · 21/01/2019 22:22

Love how you had to mention the 'private' school op Grin

howtobehuman · 21/01/2019 22:24

Normal people like me live here too 🙋🏻‍♀️ I know there are lots like you describe but I think you can choose to either care and compete/feel inadequate or just live along side them in contented scruffiness. I think it's got a lot going for it and is great for the kids. All the stupid massive cars do piss me off though.

Raspberry88 · 21/01/2019 22:24

YADNBU. I am also from here...I ran away as soon as I could.

dinosaurdick · 21/01/2019 22:30

Big up the Cheshire massive!

Thiswayorthatway · 21/01/2019 22:34

You cannot have lived near me than Raspberry88

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 21/01/2019 22:35

I thought that Supergrains!

KC225 · 21/01/2019 22:36

Dear Normal people of Cheshire, I feel like I have just been told there is no diamanté Santa in stripper heels ........ Gutted that RHOC is not true Cheshire

JustMarriedBecca · 21/01/2019 22:40

I live in the Golden Triangle. I am not posh. I shop in Aldi.

5foot5 · 21/01/2019 22:40

Huh! I have lived in Macclesfield for more than 30 years and don't recognise that description.

I know that there are some places where that might apply but I don't think it's as prevalent as you imply.

Possibly if you have your children educated in the private sector then you are more likely to encounter 4x4 driving, Cheshire set folk?

HarrietSchulenberg · 21/01/2019 22:42

I'm born and bred in Cheshire and have met more of these types in other places I've lived. I believe they exist but they're not anywhere on my social spectrum.

MsPeachh · 21/01/2019 22:42

Cracking up at this, as my Hyacinth Bucket-esque mother loves to tell people she is from Chester, when she actually grew up in a council house over the border in Wales Grin I think she should just embrace the Welsh!

Potplant · 21/01/2019 22:43

I live in the non-posh end of Cheshire and can tick off none of your list (except I've been to Florida). Perhaps because I'm not a native, I'm originally from just over the border in scouseland.

namechangedtoday15 · 21/01/2019 22:44

Ha ha, generally speaking OP, people who send their children to private school - as you do, are not normally skint. So saying they're flashing the cash with their big cars and exotic holidays - that's not really a representation of Cheshire in general is it? It's the small minority of people who are probably relatively wealthy.

If you dropped your children at the state primary down the road rather than their private day school yes you'd still see the WAG wannabees but 90% of people are just normal.
