I'm fascinated with true crime and was having a conversation with my Grandad once. He told me that one of his brothers mates was friends with peter sutcliffe, and that he had met him a couple of times.

Interested to know if others have have had encounters or known a serial killer

I don't know of any

However a couple of people I know now are on my radar now where I wouldn't be surprised if there names came up on the news.

TinselAndKnickers · 23/01/2019 20:12

@IntentsAndPorpoises I'm assuming it's Howard Hughes, the man who murdered Sophie Hook in the 90s Sad

Transpeaked · 23/01/2019 20:14

Yup, Sophie Hook’s murderer.

Chocolate50 · 23/01/2019 20:40

My dad went to school with Myra Hindley - he has a photo of her with the school as a child

covetingthepreciousthings · 23/01/2019 21:04

I hadn't heard of Sophie Hook before, what a sad story to be snatched while happily playing in a garden like that Sad
Hopefully he won't be released.

CreakyBlinder · 23/01/2019 21:19

I worked with this guy, he has the most piercing blue eyes I'd ever seen.

One of the reports says that his mum was jailed when he was young because she starved his brother to death. So I guess he was fucked up early in life.

bringbacksideburns · 23/01/2019 23:04

I'm sure I've posted this before.

Not me but an old work colleague who retired years ago once told me she used to live on the same street as Pauline Read in the 1960's. She was only a year or two younger than the girl.
One day a couple of weeks before Pauline disappeared she was walking down the road and a woman stopped her and asked her if she wanted a lift because it was raining. Woman was very smartly dressed and had very blonde hair. She thought she was just being kind but because she was only 5 minutes from home she said no.thank you ( in those days in that area not many people could afford cars, certainly not many women.so she just thought she was trying to do her a good turn)
Year or so later she saw the woman's face on the front of every newspaper because of the Moors murders.

Cant imagine what it must have been like for anyone on that jury, mentioned eatlier My fear in life is I'm yet to do jury service and I end up on a horrific case and have to look at evidence.

Also know a librarian who used to speak to Brady when he took books out. She said he always had a motorbike helmet with him, was very smartly dressed and very polite. He always took out books on Hitler apparently.

HildaZelda · 23/01/2019 23:34

Gosh, Dennis Nilsen pops up a lot on this thread. He certainly got around!

Stompythedinosaur · 23/01/2019 23:44

Not famous ones, but I used to work with some multiple murders, including one man who had raped and murdered 7 women.

He was surprisingly normal on the face of things.

gentlyscented · 24/01/2019 10:07

@covetingthepreciousthings same, I just googled it. Wish I hadn't now 😢

Back in the 1980's our local PC in the village killed his wife, 2 kids and then himself. I was still at school and don't know the details, can't find anything online either, so if anyone else knows anything about the case (little Kineton, Warwckshire) I would be very interested

LeoTab · 24/01/2019 16:51

Just been talking to my mum about the Little Kineton case I mentioned above (thread reminded me, hadn't thought about it for years), she says she thought the policeman didn;t kill his wife, just his kids to punish her for leaving him...awful, just bloody awful

thecraftyfox · 25/01/2019 02:39

@thelittledoglaughed are you sure your mother is being truthful here, the jury for Brady and Hindley's trial was all male. www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/trial-jury-rocked-by-girls-pleas-1181586

It was quite widely reported that all the people in court were very distressed by the recording.

ilovepixie · 25/01/2019 03:09

I am, regrettably, related to a well known British child serial killer. They came to my wedding.

Why did you invite them?

TheCounter · 25/01/2019 03:46

How many British childserial killers has there been. I can only think of Brady/Hindley. ... in fact Robert Black as well that took the kid from Portobello.
Surely not him...he was a total loner if I remember correctly.

FoxFoxSierra · 25/01/2019 04:09

I'm assuming that was before the fact that they were a serial killer was known Ilovepixie

The mother of my mothers next door neighbour/acquaintance, was a witness at Peter Tobins trial, he had murdered the Scottish girl Vikki Hamilton and Vikki had last been seen in a chip shop, where my DMs neighbours mother worked, on the night that she was killed.

Coincidentally Peter Tobin comes up again, an old friend of mine was a hospital porter and PT was there and handcuffed to a bed and my friend had to take his bed to another floor/ward and he actually said ‘he was alright’Confused but then my friend was a bit of a thick cunt, hence why we’re no longer friends today.

Scotschic · 25/01/2019 04:55

When my uncle first started working as a Prison Officer then one of the Krays was in the prison my uncle worked in, he didn’t have any dealings with him though.

Scotschic · 25/01/2019 05:03

DratThatCat how did you know it was Robert Thompson, I thought they weren’t to disclose who they were unless it was someone they were getting into a relationship with?

I had heard he was gay and now loving with a man although he could obviously be bisexual, or maybe he hadn’t came out back then.

Was it chilling meeting him? Did he have that ‘evil look’ that people always say about killers, usually only after they found out what they did.

Scotschic · 25/01/2019 05:07

I have another one, my friend used to be neighbours with the couple who drugged their toddler with methadone and Valium, in Spain back in 2006/7!

Scotschic · 25/01/2019 05:33

@SamanthaBrique the pp that thinks she met Robert Thompson through her work didn’t think it was him due to his name, -he had to change his name due to the tax payer paying for a new identity- it was down to the fact that the person was the image of Robert Thompson.

Scotschic · 25/01/2019 05:46

Ofalltheginjoints I didn’t think Liam Fee’s killers knew each other until they got into a relationship with one another and yet they went to the same school as one another!

HappyEverIftar · 25/01/2019 06:20

More of a shiver than anything else, but my DH was playing at the same park an hour before Ted Bundy (Green River killer) abducted and then killed his first two known victims. He was eventually caught 10 miles from DH house.

HappyEverIftar · 25/01/2019 06:24

Sorry, mixing up my Washington state serial killers - Ted Bundy wasn't the Green River killer, but helped catch him Confused

Scotschic · 25/01/2019 06:30

I have another oneShock...back in the 1980s then there was a notorious hill where gay men were known to go cruising and a lot of straight men would go up there pretending to be looking for sex and then rob gay guys.

Well one night 4 NED types went up the hill and brutally battered & murdered an innocent young guy who was alone and just walking along the road minding his own business, two of the killers turned Queens council and only served a few years whilst the other 2 denied it and they served 22 years each, one of the long term prisoners was the brother of the guy I used to buy weed from, and the other LTP was the uncle of my best friends boyfriend.Confused

I didn’t know the guy that got killed but he was only 25 and I feel really sad when I think of what those horrible little bastards done to him, all because they were homophobic, I have met one of the killers, my weed dealers brother, and he was as thick as 2 short planks and he actually said to me, ‘people can’t help being gay’ (he obviously ‘learned’ a few things in jail) and I thought to myself, ‘well it’s not me that doesn’t know this, nor me that has issues with gay people’Hmm.

Weed dealers brother ended up meeting a girlfriend in a halfway house type thing and she was an alcoholic and they ended up getting a house together after only 3 months of their relationship, and due to h having been incarcerated since he was 16 then he had problems being out, and being in a relationship, he’s back in prison now for something minor & ex weed dealer said that he, and the rest of the family were actually quite relieved he was back in as he wasn’t coping being out after being incarcerated for the majority of his life, he’s institutionalised now.

Apparently the majority of the city were homophobic at that time and the whole AIDS thing had just been discovered & was all over the news, (our city wasn’t HIV capital for nothing!) so the general consensus from folks was that it was awful that these young guys had had their lives ruined by getting sent to jail!Angry
