AIBU ginger hair

I have ginger hair as does my daughter, I was bullied horrendously at school because of it and I worry that when my daughter goes to school she’ll be bullied too.

AIBU to hate it when strangers come up to me in the street and point out my daughter’s hair and say “oh, what an unusual colour” etc.

To me it feels as though may as well be pointing at her and saying “she’s different, she’s not one of us” also does it not occur to them that since I’ve got ginger hair and I’m in my mid thirties that it’s not a novelty to me, it’s just normal?

My little boy has beautiful Ginger hair too. He is 6 now and people (usually older ladies) always comment on what a nice colour it is. I was reading some of his school work, on 'what makes me unique' and he had written about his hair in such a positive way. I think he loves the way it makes him stand out from the crowd. Think Ron Weasley/ Ed Sheeran and the Sumatran Orangutan....All awesome.

In my mid-40s and ginger. Going a bit lighter/blonder now as a pp mentioned so considering dying back to my 'original' colour.

Never had an issue with it at school at all, don't think it was ever mentioned really - but there has definitely been a bit of 'Ugh gingers. Oh not you, you're strawberry blonde' throughout my life. Hmm

Also gutted neither of my kids are ginger!

@Doyouthinktheysaurus

I'm the same age but no sign of grey or fading yet. Must be luck of the draw!

"Try to teach her to love her hair. Take the compliments on her hair colour and repeat them to your daughter 'dd that lady was just saying how lovely your hair is'."

I'm sorry if I sound ignorant I had no idea people with red hair can be bullied for that.

I just came here to say I love red hair. One of my client's little girl has ginger hair and is the most adorable tiny human being I've ever met.

I guess I'll never understand mean people and I'm still naive.

Best of luck, OP, it will be fine!
