Duke of Edinburgh’s Road Accident
Smotheroffive · 19/01/2019 22:55

Have you decided in your 'wisdom' he shouldn't be driving? Have you set the law then that 'everyine' over a certain age must get off the roads now, because you say so!

I reckon that would be considered arrogant and entitled, not to mention the patronising steady.

My point wasn't to deny others opinions, as I think you could well see, it was the foundless speculation, well...I'm not going to repeat myself, this thread is quite shocking really, and highly speculative from some and ageist from some too.

But far be it from me to let the truth stand in the way of a good story!

Tiscold · 19/01/2019 22:57

Well yes she's complaining the royals haven't apologised, since the palace stated they sent on their wishes but then actually haven't.

I struggle to feel sorry for him losing his independence tbh if he has to stop driving, so many old people are surviving on meagre pensions funds, living in shitty care homes that have barely enough staff bevause of government cuts etc while he has chauffers, servants, chefs, maid etc to dote on his every wish. So boo hoo he can't drive anymore.

Smotheroffive · 19/01/2019 22:57

Range rover s are easier cars to roll than some because of their high centre ...oh..pfft...its all been said, and not been read clearly

thenightsky · 19/01/2019 23:23

He wasn't dazzled by sun. One of Kia passengers states it was a cloudy day.

Smotheroffive · 19/01/2019 23:27

Others on the road don't have to be dazzled by the sun for one on the road to be.

He said it at the time, do we have anything else of substance to go on?

Aeroflotgirl · 19/01/2019 23:31

One law for them, one law for us eh. Yes he is 97 by the looks of it, his reactions are not too good.

thenightsky · 19/01/2019 23:32

I'm amazed he doesn't wear a seatbelt after what happened to Diana.

You talk nonsense, he's too old to drive safely and that's a fact, not ageist a FACT!

Wordthe · 19/01/2019 23:38

What the f* is he doing driving without a seatbelt now 😮
apparently the police had a word 🤐

Aeroflotgirl · 19/01/2019 23:39

Any decent person would have hung up their keys and called it a day, thank goodness the passengers in the Kia were not killed. He is too frail to be responsible for driving a car let alone a big Range Rover. His driving should be tested before he goes back on the road. But because he is the Queens husband, it is different. If it was Joe Bloggs they would have been arrested, points on their licence and have a ban from driving for a fixed period.

Charlie97 · 19/01/2019 23:51

Apparently the police have spoken to the DOE about not wearing his seatbelt....... that's helpful! Blithering fool that he is!!

Anapurna · 19/01/2019 23:57

@Smotheroffive

It wasn’t a Range Rover.

Anapurna · 19/01/2019 23:58

He also said, “ I’m such a fool.”
Quite interesting.

NicolaStart · 20/01/2019 00:49

“it was Joe Bloggs they would have been arrested, points on their licence and have a ban from driving for a fixed period.”

What bollocks.

Smotheroffive · 20/01/2019 01:32

I know Anapura do read the thread, ah, now you make the laws and have tested his driving, who sounds like the entitled know-all now, don't be telling me its nonsense, you dont make the law, fact, much as you seem to think you do.

Horrible nasty lot of unsubstantiated speculative gossip.

Beansonapost · 20/01/2019 02:13

At 97 with that many resources I think you put your ego aside and just don't fucking drive!

What if the accident had caused a death... what then?

Disgusting behaviour.

ExFury · 20/01/2019 05:35

Not defending him, but the police couldn’t have fined him could they? They have to stop you and see you without your seatbelt on to fine you for it. Not just see a photo.

(I know that begs questions of the PPO in the car behind, but in general they can’t fine from a newspaper photo)

Ladymargarethall · 20/01/2019 06:44

Imagine being the PC who pulled him over.

diddl · 20/01/2019 07:23

"At 97 with that many resources I think you put your ego aside and just don't fucking drive!"

I agree.

I mean for him it wouldn't be a loss of indendence in that he can't get where he wants to go as there's no bus/he can't afford the taxi.

I really don't think that they do care about how they come across to others though.

Aragog · 20/01/2019 07:25

He wouldn't have been fined and given points as it was simply from a photograph. He want stopped whilst not wearing a belt. He was photographed. That would not be sufficient to fine and add points for anyone.

He wouldn't have been automatically arrested, fined and banned for this accident either, as another pp suggested others would be. Certainly not two days later and before any form of investigation. That's regardless of who he is.

Nanasueathome · 20/01/2019 07:41

There’s an article in the DM re the people involved in the other car

MaggieAndHopey · 20/01/2019 07:44

I think it's the car he drives which makes this second incident so obnoxious. I woudn't mind as much if he was in a Lupo or something. But he has to tool around in a luxury tank.

Ladymargarethall · 20/01/2019 08:02

If, as suggested, he pulled out of a turning without due care and attention, what would be the result for Joe Public aged 97. Does anyone know?
My father, who was about 93 at the time, had his licence removed after he was in an accident. He was on a country road, a deer ran out which the car in front hit. He went into the back of the car in front. His car was a write off but no one was injured. As far as I am aware he was told at the scene that he was no longer fit to drive.
