AIBU to ask why on earth is the Duke of Edinburgh driving at the age of 97.

OP posts:

FFS, I’ve just seen that he was driving alone on public roads today. What an absolutely selfish prick. Is he not going to be happy until he seriously hurts someone?

LeilaCat · 19/01/2019 16:52

He gives 0 fucks!

diddl · 19/01/2019 16:55

So was he driving without a seat belt on a public road?

user1457017537 · 19/01/2019 16:57

Apparently so!

Wordthe · 19/01/2019 16:57

why should he care about the peasants, the important thing is that he extracts as much privilege as possible from his remaining time on this side of the grass

Wordthe · 19/01/2019 17:00

driving fast is the only time he gets to experience a feeling of masculine prowess, so what if he takes out a few peasants, he has the divine right of royalty

diddl · 19/01/2019 17:01

I've only seen pics in the DMailBlushGrin, so am thinking that some of it is to get people frothing, as Sandringham is mentioned.

So he could be on private roads, & of course, it's possible to get a medical exemption, isn't it?

That said, it wouldn't surprise me as of them seem to be arrogant & entitled!

480Widdio · 19/01/2019 17:02

Good grief,he is back driving already!! On a Public Road and no seatbelt!!! Unbelievable.

Yamayo · 19/01/2019 17:10

It's alright everyone, he's clearly a very competent driver... Hmm

Ladymargarethall · 19/01/2019 17:14

Wordthe I read that as pheasants! Pheasants are a real nuisance round here, having zero road sense. Peasants not so much.

nocoolnamesleft · 19/01/2019 17:15

It's young drivers that scare me. I've twice come very close to getting killed by a young, male, drunk, speeding, driver.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 19/01/2019 17:15

Driving in his new motor that was delivered yesterday?

I wonder if the driver in the other car had a new car delivered to them too...

headstone · 19/01/2019 17:16

He won’t stop until he runs over a corgi.

BlueEyedBengal · 19/01/2019 17:17

Wasn't the queen photographed yesterday driving a Range Rover on a public road and without a seatbelt on?

NicolaStart · 19/01/2019 17:39

Grin at Headstone

Though I think "the Queen won't tell him to stop til he runs over a corgi" is possibly more accurate.

AlexaAmbidextra · 19/01/2019 17:43

I think it might be relevant to the back story. When I read that he had retired to the cottage for his "health" I took that to be a palace euphemism for mental frailty.

Ali1ce. This was just your take on it. Doesn’t mean it has any basis in reality. Hmm

brizzledrizzle · 19/01/2019 17:49

I wonder if the driver in the other car had a new car delivered to them too...

Maybe that was their pay off for not going to the press?

Bishop that's your MBE withdrawn Grin

SillySallySingsSongs · 19/01/2019 17:53

I wonder if the driver in the other car had a new car delivered to them too

It was moved from Ballmoral down to Sandringham so not new new.

FarAwayFromTheMidnightAir · 19/01/2019 17:54

I heard he was practicing for Meghan 🤭

I wonder if the driver in the other car had a new car delivered to them too...

Sure they got a lot more than just that for their silence!

It's all a bit 'slow news day' though, is it not? Old man causes minor injuries in car accident? I bet Teresa's thanking her lucky stars her shitshows had a break from the front page for a couple of days.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 19/01/2019 17:55

Just gobsmacked anyone would have a new car delivered 24hrs after a substantial accident. Let alone a 97 year old in the public eye, and then driving 48hrs later with no seat belt.

Wordthe · 19/01/2019 17:57

the royals set such a good example of how to be a fine upstanding citizen dont they

Grace212 · 19/01/2019 17:59

today's driving is not on public roads though is it? I hope not!

brizzledrizzle · 19/01/2019 18:00

Careful FarAwayFromTheMidnightAir you'll have a following of conspiracy theorists soon Wink

PollyFlinderz · 19/01/2019 18:02

If the cars are leased then it’s normal practice to jags one replaced very quickly.

Bluelady · 19/01/2019 18:04

It isn't a new car. Wearing a seat belt won't benefit anyone except him and, judging from some of the comments above, nobody much cares whether he lives or dies. Except you'll all be moaning about the cost of his state funeral.
