AIBU to ask why on earth is the Duke of Edinburgh driving at the age of 97.

Sounds like he has been a fucking law unto himself for yrs - speeding and threatening to kick his wife out of the car if she continues to complain, not driving with his PPO's in the car etc.
No fucks given.

Bluelady · 19/01/2019 14:55

I've threatened to kick my husband out of my car when he criticises my driving. Does that make me a law unto myself? Evidence of him speeding? Any conviction for it? We'd definitely have heard if there were.

Smotheroffive · 19/01/2019 14:58

Sounds like he has been a fucking law unto himself for yrs Bungalow how exactly?
Are you in his car and life personally to 'know' such deets about his private convo's?
Is this all from press speculation?

user1457017537 · 19/01/2019 14:59

He threatened to kick the Queen out of the car?

Bluelady · 19/01/2019 15:03

Apparently yes. Nearly every couple I know has the same experience.

Why does it even matter where he stays, or when or why. Its a non story.

I think it might be relevant to the back story. When I read that he had retired to the cottage for his "health" I took that to be a palace euphemism for mental frailty.

The royals have a history of keeping such issues out of the public eye.

user1457017537 · 19/01/2019 15:06

My husband has never threatened to kick me out of the car or anywhere else for that matter.

SerenDippitty · 19/01/2019 15:07

Neither has mine.

Bluelady · 19/01/2019 15:10

Or mine but I don't criticise his driving.

What has his views on race got to do with his driving? Obama seemed happy with him on both counts.

Valanice1989 · 19/01/2019 15:11

it must be horrible to give up your independence and realise you are coming to the end of your life.

At 97, though, it's unlikely that this realisation will come as a shock to him!

HowlsMovingBungalow · 19/01/2019 15:14

It was reported on BBC radio, Giles Brandreth who was a Royal Biographer, said the Duke threatened to boot Queeny out of the car because she complained that he was driving too fast.

NotNowMrTumnus · 19/01/2019 15:40

Karma.

Smalldogwatchingsquirrels · 19/01/2019 15:49

I have RTFT so sorry if someone has already answered this, but will the insurance company and/or the police tell him he can't drive anymore or will it be left for him to decide?

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 19/01/2019 15:57

Can you bring a civil claim against the DoE, or does he count as 'The Crown', meaning you can't?

BishopBrennansArse · 19/01/2019 16:14

Ahh give him a break, it's his first accident since 1997 isn't it? 😜

MissEliza · 19/01/2019 16:15

Bishop that's naughty.

BishopBrennansArse · 19/01/2019 16:31

Who, me? 😇

Tonightstheteriyakichicken · 19/01/2019 16:34

I wonder if the staff have already started to field "Have you been in an accident lately?" phone calls.

diddl · 19/01/2019 16:35

"It was reported on BBC radio, Giles Brandreth who was a Royal Biographer, said the Duke threatened to boot Queeny out of the car because she complained that he was driving too fast."

I should imagine these things need taking with a pinch of salt though.

He does come across as a bully from things like that though-I mean all passangers deserve to feel safe, & if you don't -wouldn't you rather the driver turf you out?

VictoriasSecretGrannyKnickers · 19/01/2019 16:38

He's been photographed driving again today without a seat belt.

Obviously overturning his car two days ago wasn't too traumatic for him Hmm

user1457017537 · 19/01/2019 16:40

Well I’m gobsmacked to be honest.

diddl · 19/01/2019 16:42

I'm not at all surprised tbh.

I imagine it's on a private rd though.

ManicUnicorn · 19/01/2019 16:47

Selfish, arrogant git. How dare he! I bet the driver of the other car haven't had a flash replacement yet either..
