To think Christmas songs don't make me feel sad? Blazing row with "d"p

Because I'm apparently lying when I said they don't make me feel sad or like I want to cry!

He's got so upset! Breathing out really hard while he was almost shouting at me. Telling me they're written to be sad and everyone feels sad when they hear silent night.

Apparently I'm just saying it to argue with him!!!! Do they make you sad?

One of them but only because it was played at my grandmothers funeral.

The rest of them make me want to claw my ears off

DonDrapersOldFashioned · 16/01/2019 19:17
  1. It’s January. Why are you even discussing Christmas?

  2. Your DP is unhinged.

ProfessorCustard · 16/01/2019 19:17

They don't make me feel sad at all!

Celebelly · 16/01/2019 19:17

He sounds bizarre.

Janleverton · 16/01/2019 19:18

Lots of carols make me tear up, but not sadness so much as they’re so familiar and lovely - like once in royal David’s city (the lone chorister at the beginning) and o little town of Bethlehem.

HollowTalk · 16/01/2019 19:19

He's lost the plot. Tell him to go and stand outside for a while to cool down and think about his argument.

MrsTommyBanks · 16/01/2019 19:20

Does he always get so worked up over absolutely nothing? It's bizarre.
No Christmas songs don't make me sad.

ElvisParsley · 16/01/2019 19:21

Er, no. I don't think there is a single Christmas song which makes me sad. Most of them are upbeat, happy songs. So, YANBU on this score.

But both of YABmassivelyU to even be discussing this in January.

PabloTescobar · 16/01/2019 19:21

I don't feel sad when I hear Christmas songs. Does your DH have issues?!

pisspawpatrol · 16/01/2019 19:22

What a strange thing to argue about. Mostly christmas carols are supposed to be a celebration of christ's birth aren't they?

TinaTurnipp · 16/01/2019 19:22

This is the kind of thing my EA ex would argue with me about purely because he was eager to have a row. A very strange thing to have a blazing row about Confused

RebelWitchFace · 16/01/2019 19:23

Nope most of them are bouncy and fairly cheerful.
Silent night gives me an awww moment because i used to sing it to dd when she was a baby to put her to sleep.
I have a lot of shit associations with December and xmas and things to make me sad, but carols are not amongst them.

Lovethetimeyouhave · 16/01/2019 19:24

@tinaturnip he's eager to have a row. He'll get upset if I disagree with him over anything. He brought up something from ages ago straight after and I've left the room as I have to prepare lessons for work tomorrow and he just wants to fight.

5lnaBed · 16/01/2019 19:25

Silent night can be very moving when sung by someone with a beautiful Voice but that’s different to feeling sad

CottonTailRabbit · 16/01/2019 19:25

Why is he so excited about it? Weirdo.

Bambamber · 16/01/2019 19:26

Christmas songs irritate me more than anything

Pachyderm1 · 16/01/2019 19:28

He sounds like an aggressive little arsehole. Bin him 🗑

FineWordsForAPorcupine · 16/01/2019 19:37

Is he usually like this, OP?

  1. "Nope, it's really out of character. I've never seen him like this"

He's upset about something, but because men are taught to be strangers to their own feelings, it is coming out as anger and he's picking a fight. Wait until he's calmed down (there is no point reasoning with an angry person) and ask for an apology. Then ask him what's really going on.

  1. "It's not the first time, tbh. He gets like this sometimes."

Right, stop asking for confirmation that your point of view isn't wrong or crazy and think seriously about what you're getting out of this relationship. Someone who gets this angry when you disagree with him is not a safe person to be around.

AriadnePersephoneCloud · 16/01/2019 19:52

They make me feel happy, and christmassy Xmas Grin

Imsosorryalan1 · 16/01/2019 20:00

Tell the daft twat to cock off and he's the thing making you sad. Dick

Lovethetimeyouhave · 16/01/2019 20:26

Yea there we go. Didn't think I was crazy!

OP posts:
MoreCheeseDear · 16/01/2019 20:32

I feel exactly the same way as he does but I certainly don't think everyone else should. Daft.

NotANotMan · 16/01/2019 20:34

Whether or not you're crazy is irrelevant isn't it? He was spoiling for a fight so he made one. Do you want to live with this forever?

Whisky2014 · 16/01/2019 20:36

Why would we feel sad listening to Xmas songs?!

Haworthia · 16/01/2019 20:39

He likes to pick fights with you and gets furious when you don’t agree with him. Red flag.
