How warm is your house? DH insists on it being 21 but I've set the heating to switch on at 18 and off at 19 degrees. Aibu?

I've got mine right up to 28 at the moment but I'm really chilly, usually 22-24 is warm enough for me

HundredMilesAnHour · 16/01/2019 11:25

I'm with your DH. I like 21 or warmer. I cannot stand being cold at home nor do I want to wear layers and layers of clothes at home. It's my home, I want to feel comfortable. Turning the heating off at 19 degrees would piss me off no end.

chaoscategorised · 16/01/2019 11:26

We have it at 18. Having it at 21 makes the house unbearably hot, but we have a small house.

themoomoo · 16/01/2019 11:26

28??!!!! sweet fuckin Jesus, I'd boil. Do you not own a jumper?

m0therofdragons · 16/01/2019 11:26

18 is the absolute minimum Nhs advises. We have ours at 19 but on particular cold days I've been know to boost it to 21 degrees.

Whether yabu or not depends on whether he's walking round in tshirts saying he's cold or appropriately dressed and cold.

SpinneyHill · 16/01/2019 11:27

28?? Are you sure you're hooman? I get all red sweaty and huffing at 23

Newsername · 16/01/2019 11:28

I don’t put the heating on during the day, as it’s just me at home. Heating goes on at 2.30pm before the kids get home up to 25-30°C, and stays on until 11pm.

There’s isn’t even a point of putting it on at 18°C! We want to feel warm!

Disfordarkchocolate · 16/01/2019 11:31

17.5 and I'm hot, at 21 I'd be really struggling to cope. Parts of last summer where difficult for me Smile

MirandaWest · 16/01/2019 11:32

Ours is about 17 degrees when it’s on. Although DH does sneak it up to 18 or 19 sometimes

19lottie82 · 16/01/2019 11:33

If it’s really cold we put ours up to 21 in the evening.

MacarenaFerreiro · 16/01/2019 11:33

20C in our house. Never any higher. 17 would be too chilly for me, 28 is ridiculous.

IncomingCannonFire · 16/01/2019 11:34

Usually have it at 18.5, but just boosted it to 19 cause dc is poorly. It's on for 2 hours in the morning and 2hrs in the evening. Dont usually have it on in the day.

EddyF · 16/01/2019 11:34

I always have mine at 35. I hardly switch it off. I hate the cold. Yes it's expensive but I work around it!

donkey86 · 16/01/2019 11:36

18.5 here, though we sometimes turn it up to 19. I don’t think we’ve ever put it above 20 - it’s just not comfortable. Luckily DH and I agree on this - I’d struggle to live with someone who wanted anything much above 20.

Katinkka · 16/01/2019 11:37

28? 35?? Fucking hell.

I have mine set at 20 but turn it off at 8 so it cools down for sleeping. Sometimes 20 is too hot if I'm doing stuff.

PurpleTigerLove · 16/01/2019 11:37

We don’t have a thermostat. Heating comes on for an hour in the morning and an hour before dinner . We light a fire every day and it heats downstairs and the water .
If the house is cold I just stick the heating on for another hour . We have oil central heating though and it’s ridiculously expensive . We have our own source of logs so it’s a much more cost efficient way of heating the house .

RenegadeBee · 16/01/2019 11:37

Mine is at 16. Too expensive to turn it up. Im freezing!

User758172 · 16/01/2019 11:38

We have a very draughty Victorian terrace with sash windows. If the heating wasn’t on constantly it would be freezing in here! Thermostat usually set to 22 degrees but never manages to get that warm.

CrochetBug · 16/01/2019 11:38

Mines on 18. Very occasionally I turn it up To 19 or 20.

spreadingchestnuttree · 16/01/2019 11:39

Our thermostat is set to 18 but I turn it up to 19 if I feel cold. The thermostat is in the hall though, which is a bit draughty, so it probably gets a bit warmer than that in the other rooms of the house.

MacarenaFerreiro · 16/01/2019 11:39

I don't think out thermostat even goes up to 35C.

That's quite literally the hottest day in the summer we ever get in the UK. No wonder we've got such an issue with greenhouse gases and climate change.

Tumbleweed101 · 16/01/2019 11:39

Put it on 20C when at home and 15C when out and overnight. That way it doesn’t take too long to heat up if it is cold but isn’t too high for cost when nobody is here.

Celebelly · 16/01/2019 11:40

18/19 for living spaces. Around about 15/16 for bedroom.

CallMeSirShotsFired · 16/01/2019 11:41

Mine is 18, last on/off is 6.30-7.30pm but I might move it back as I go to bed really early and often end up roasting.

Other people's houses are def warmer than mine. It's nice at first, but after a while I start feeling quite suffocated and want to open a window or go outside!

(Although contrarily I usually have my car heating up to max!)

RaininSummer · 16/01/2019 11:41

Can't get over some people saying above 22 ish. Must be expensive and unhealthy. Do you boiling people sit about in bikinis in the winter? 19 is my normal, 21 is nice but feels wasteful.
