How warm is your house? DH insists on it being 21 but I've set the heating to switch on at 18 and off at 19 degrees. Aibu?

@NigelGresley, I can even be arsed to respond.

Purplecatshopaholic · 16/01/2019 12:53

And btw I am saying that from a very warm house, and I. Dont. Care!

Backwoodsgirl · 16/01/2019 12:55

Ours is set to come on at 12 and off at 16. We rely on a wood burner which keeps the house at 15-18 so heating is the backup

purpleme12 · 16/01/2019 12:56

Wow I heat my house till it's about 14 (this is from my seperate thermometer not my thermostat) then turn it off. Nothing at night. Got 15 tog duvet which I can just wear a t-shirt in and be snuggly. It's 11 degrees at the minute in here

Elfinablender · 16/01/2019 12:59

I'd keep the heating at 28c if I could just push past the guilt. I keep it between 20-22c but I still need a jumper on.

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 16/01/2019 13:00

Heating set at 20 says on 24/7. I still wear a jumper, trackies and thermal socks everyday.
My disabled mum who lives in part of my house has an extra independent heating source at 20 is far to cold for her. Her areas are probably for like 27-28. My winter fuel bills are very high but i would rather make savings elsewhere to pay them than live in a cold house.

zukiecat · 16/01/2019 13:02

I have no heating at all

My house is freezing all the time

I hate being so cold

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 16/01/2019 13:16

20, although I sneak it up to 22 sometimes if I'm really cold. It only comes on if someone is home and it's on a schedule - few hours at 18 in the morning, 20 at 5pm for an hour or two.

I work from home and I do need it to be not freezing! We've got a really old house and we can't insulate it; apparently. It's single bricks or something? It loses heat like anything. We did change the boiler late last year so it's a very efficient system now.

Redyoyo · 16/01/2019 14:34

20 max and my 100year+ old house is roasting, its 4 degrees here today and its off till we get in and then it will go off again at 10pm.
How can people sleep with the heating on?

Pk37 · 16/01/2019 14:35

22 , 18 for me is chilly

MishMashMosher · 16/01/2019 14:48

Our heating goes on for about an hour in the morning while we are getting ready for work /school. Sometimes it might go on for an hour later on at about 3pm if it's particularly cold. At weekends we will have it on a bit longer but some days I forget to put it on at all. Never ever have it on over night. It needs to be off by 5pm at the very latest as we all like sleeping in a cold room. Our heating is set at 21.our gas bill is very low.

Frosty66611 · 16/01/2019 14:50

Mine is set at about 23 degrees but I have single glazing and live in a house full of draughts. Moving in with my partner next month and he has triple glazing, loads of wall and ceiling insulation, new boiler etc and even with the heating on at 17 degrees it gets too warm in there

thirdhair · 16/01/2019 14:54

I hate a boiling house. Just put socks and a jumper on!

My mil does this, she doesn't dress appropriately but has the heating on all over the house at an unbearable level

Omzlas · 16/01/2019 14:58

18 normally then bump it up when kids are having a bath and usually again to warm the house through before bed, when it's cold

Loyaultemelie · 16/01/2019 15:04

24 minimum here but I have fibromyalgia and cold hurts

Suomynona · 16/01/2019 15:17

Usually sits around 20 in our house. It's a modern 3 storey and no matter what, the ground floor is always freezing compared to top two floors.

I've been unwell recently and home alone during the day not moving much so have some colder days knocked it up to 21-22 but not for long.

When my partner is home four nights a week we don't have heating on at night as much warmer in bed with two! I do ocasionally leave on overnight when alone though as I get very cold in bed (and always have a fleece blanket on top of the duvet when alone). I love the house being toasty when I wake up (up at 5.30am for work so can be quite nippy).

DonnaDarko · 16/01/2019 15:20

Our house is always about 20 since we got new windows. Sometimes dips to 18. If I want to be cosy, I put it on 22

Nothisispatrick · 16/01/2019 15:21

20 usually. I set it at 16.5 for the night as we have a baby and her pjs and sleeping bag are designed to keep her warm for 16-20 degrees, any lower and she’d be cold.

BlooperReel · 16/01/2019 15:21

I like it at about 24 degrees or a bit higher, but I have an iron deficiency and feel cold alllll the time, 18 and I would feel freezing, DH cannot get his head around me having goosebumps at 22 degrees.

Boom76 · 16/01/2019 15:22

Mines is set for 20 but I’m constantly boosting it as I hate being cold and I refuse to sit in a hundred layers in my home. Upstairs is set a bit cooler except at 6.30 when it’s set for 21 so it’s not cold when I get out of bed

KonekoBasu · 16/01/2019 15:33

I put the heating on if it's below 18 if DS is in the house. Try not to go above 20 usually.

Moominfan · 16/01/2019 15:35

I don't even have mine on. It sets off my eczema so has to be really cold.

EwItsAHooman · 16/01/2019 16:26

Just put socks and a jumper on!

Not always as simple as that though when you have a medical condition that means you're susceptible to the cold or can't regualtate body temperature.

Also some people don't like to sit with lots of layers on for whatever reason.

I really can't bring myself to get so worked up over what setting complete strangers have their heating on.

NigelGresley · 17/01/2019 13:39

@Purplecatshopaholic
I don’t why you would tag someone with such a pointless comment.
Why don’t you care? Why do you think it’s only for other people to care about and not you?

CatWhisker · 17/01/2019 15:07

I've got a layer of blubber that keeps me warm in winter so don't like it too warm. It's not great in a heatwave though so currently trying to lose it
