How warm is your house? DH insists on it being 21 but I've set the heating to switch on at 18 and off at 19 degrees. Aibu?

I am in the north and it is 8 degrees today. No heating on till 5pm. Off at 9. I hate a hot house. Do you all waft around in tshirts ans bare feet rhose of you who like 25 degrees plus?

BiscuitDrama · 16/01/2019 11:41

If you have yours set very high, do you know what temperature your house is actually reaching?
Ours used to not even be able to reach 21 before we got a new boiler.

WellTidy · 16/01/2019 11:42

Ours is on all day, set at 20 degrees. If I find that it is chilly indoors, I turn it up to 21 degrees, and then when it reaches 21, I turn it back down to 20 and keep all the internal doors closed.

Where is your thermostat? Is the thermostat setting the temperature for the whole house from a room which is way less draughty than other rooms (and so the other rooms are always going to be colder)?

ThatsNotNiceRoger · 16/01/2019 11:46

About 18-20.

35??? That’s like the temperature of Greece. How is that even comfortable?

Hotterthanahotthing · 16/01/2019 11:47

I boost it to 21 in the evening or weekend if the house feels cold.Thermostat set for 15 in the daytime and 10 at night,19 in the evenings.Radiatores turned off in my bedroom and spare room.

RoseMartha · 16/01/2019 11:50

Normally max we gave it is 22 aim for 20

Huntawaymama · 16/01/2019 11:57

I like 21/22 during the day, 19 at night. My parents used to have the hpuse so cold and I hated it and hated having to wear thick jumpers inside so I decided once I was paying my own bills I'd be paying to be warm enough in a long sleeved tip

nokidshere · 16/01/2019 11:59

DH and two teens would prefer it to be on at 22 - they are fully dressed indoors with t shirts, jumper, socks and jeansConfused My comfortable is at 16 with a light skirt & t shirt. We settle on about 19 but then they complain about feeling cold, and I complain about feeling hot.

When I'm home alone I turn it off, then warm it up for when they are home - then we spend the rest of the time argument about who gets what they want Grin

MirandaWest · 16/01/2019 12:02

And it’s at 9 overnight (I should think it’s warmer than that, but that’s what the thermostat is set to). Luckily DH is also happy with my need to sleep with the window open; I get a headache otherwise

Blobby10 · 16/01/2019 12:03

Mine goes on for 2 hours from 6am then 3 hours from 6pm at around 18-19 degrees. Never on at night so its a bit chilly when I get up for the gym at 4.45-5am!!

When my kids are home, they wander round in shorts and t shirt and complain it's too cold!! They have started to learn that my house is not a halls of residence and that they need to bring warm clothes home.. Grin

user1457017537 · 16/01/2019 12:04

Is the heating even on at 18?

Roomba · 16/01/2019 12:04

Mine is set to 17.5 at the moment, which means it switches off at 18.5. By which point at least two people in the household will have stripped off and exclaimed 'it's boiling in here!'. That temp is downstairs too, it's always much cooler upstairs.

We'd all expire at 21. Visiting my mother, who sets it to 24 degrees 24/7, is utterly unbearable.

higgyhog · 16/01/2019 12:05

23 in our house, another one who hates being cold.

RebeccaCloud9 · 16/01/2019 12:06

Jesus Christ, if your heating is set above 20, do you not have any insulation?? We only have ours at 18, up to 19 if it's really cold. Never on at night. And that is plenty warm enough with no jumper. We got free extra insulation recently. You should DEFINITELY look into it. Blimey!

Nevertellasole · 16/01/2019 12:06

23 degrees if I need it to come on and be warm. Ours only comes on about 22, I think out thermostat is not quite right but 23 heats the house nicely.

Roomba · 16/01/2019 12:07

Oh forgot to say I don't have heating on at night at all. It's usually about 15.5-16 downstairs before the heating comes on in the morning.

NotCopingWithThis · 16/01/2019 12:08

We don’t have central heating. The fire or an electric radiator go on if it’s under 16, otherwise we just pop a jumper on.

DonCorleoneTheThird · 16/01/2019 12:09

22 during the day, I turn it down a bit at night

IBelieveHerWhyDontYou · 16/01/2019 12:09

20-21 in our house.

Bambamber · 16/01/2019 12:09

18 during the day and 16 during the night. It's nice to snuggle up in fleecy pyjamas under a blanket. If it feels quite chilly when my daughter is having a bath I will pop it up a little more until she is dressed again

Purplecatshopaholic · 16/01/2019 12:11

I like my house warm defo. I pay the bloody bill so will have it as warm as I like, lol. Direct result of childhood in drafty house I expect (and a father too stingy to actually put the central heating on!) Its a modern house with good double glazing so heats up nicely and I dont want to feel the need to go around in jumpers at home. Each to their own on this one though!

appless · 16/01/2019 12:11

Those who said 28 and 35 presumably have inaccurate/broken thermostats!

RebeccaCloud9
it's all relative. I like my house warm, and the bathrooms are hot. I just don't like being cold.
On the other hand, none of us suffered during the so-called "heat wave" last summer, we just opened the windows and we enjoyed the temperature whilst other people were moaning and needed fans all over their house Grin

Badtasteflump · 16/01/2019 12:14

Ours is usually set at 20. Last night I turned it up to 21 because it was really cold. But it goes off at 11 pm as I hate being hot overnight.
