Have you seen the new Gillette advert?

It's in line with the #metoo movement and it's just brilliant.

Reaction online is depressing though. It has pissed Piers Morgan off royally though, so that's excellent. Poor little snowflake. Offended at an advert Grin

Awesome advert, I loved it. But my God some advertising executive somewhere is rubbing their hands with glee at thought of their annual bonus given all the publicity it’s attracted Grin. Very clever indeed on so many levels.

FarAwayFromTheMidnightAir · 15/01/2019 22:08

I loved it. And loved Terry Crew's response to Piers Smile

I love terry crew

Wordthe · 15/01/2019 22:11

nick Ferrari on LBC this morning practically vomiting on radio because he thought it was so awful
obviously he's in favour of sexual harassment

I cynical person might think that some of the down voting and outraged comments were paid for to attract publicity.

CheshireChat · 15/01/2019 22:24

See, I'd believe men are present in a bad light if I'd actually seen any of the men posting on the Facebook page rebutting the 'you are property' and similar misogynistic shite. But they didn't.*

I also noticed that the men that did post in favour of the ad were called women, gays etc Hmm.

They rather proved the point of the ad.

*I haven't looked since early evening so there might be some now.

Weirdlookingbricks · 15/01/2019 22:25

Those men frothing at the mouth clearly don't identify with the 'good guys'. Sad.

CheshireChat · 15/01/2019 22:36

being presented

But often the same men cry about the levels of violence they experience (by other men), difficulty admitting they've been sexually abused due to claims of 'oh he should stop whining, he got laid' (it's mostly other men saying this) etc, but not looking at the causes.

I remember on a 9gag thread regarding the school boy assaulted by his teacher, virtually all of the posts pointing out that this is rape were by women. Most men were saying he should have hidden it!

Dutch1e · 15/01/2019 22:38

Nope. 2 million men live alone. 14% of lone parents are men, that’s another 400,000.....

In the whole world? Doubtful. Women's buying power is worth 18 trillion dollars a year and I guarantee that it's not blokes who buy the majority of men's razors.

FruminousBandersnatch · 15/01/2019 22:41

I like the ad too. Don't Gillette test on animals though? I bought a safety razor - less waste and no risk of animal testing. Sorry Gillette, you haven't won me over.

RedForShort · 15/01/2019 22:53

Does this mean Piers Morgan thinks he’s masculine?

Holowiwi · 15/01/2019 22:55

Well I think this ad is a mistake, seems to be riding this #metoo.
We shall have to see how their sales go, all well and good doing whatever you want with your ads but when you alienate the people who use your product it's not going to end well for your business.
Going by the general reception Wilkinson sword have a good opportunity here.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 15/01/2019 22:56

Hahahahahahaaaahhahahahaaaaa

Oh bless his heart...maybe he does

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 15/01/2019 22:57

Well I think this ad is a mistake,

It might be

So they will just release a hyper masculine advert to counter it Smile

gluteustothemaximus · 15/01/2019 23:17

If you really want to depress yourselves, check out Piers Morgan's article.

Not for the article, but for the comments underneath.

And if you don't want to depress yourselves, as you were.

I doubt that will work, maybe people on MN may have not noticed but there is a rising tide against SJW and PC being pushed down peoples throats particularly men. It is what has given rise to brexit, MGTOW, Red pill, Trump, the protests in France and the shifting to the right throughout Europe etc. I don't like this at all because I don't think the end result will be to anyone's liking.

JaneJeffer · 15/01/2019 23:34

As the mother of two sons I felt absolutely nothing watching this ad but I'm happy that Piers Morgan is pissed off so yay Gillette!

Wotev · 15/01/2019 23:45

I'm amused that men are annoyed that it's actually the women who buy their razors. Get off your arse and buy your own then!
A company like Gillette will almost know when you last pissed from their market research. Women buy the razors. This ad is aimed at women and specifically parents. Mothers. That's the target audience. It's not men! Lol, it's amusing.

SheldonTheWonderShlong · 15/01/2019 23:55

Teary here

OftenHangry · 15/01/2019 23:59

It's lovely. DH loved it.
Tbh same should be done for women. No matter what gender there are so many people behaving appalingly.

OftenHangry · 16/01/2019 00:12

Just an fyi Piers Morgaan argued that muslim community should be better role models and do something about ter9rrists.
God forbid same message goes to men 🙄
(or women)

Bufferingkisses · 16/01/2019 00:51

It's sad that the overwhelming responses from men has been NAMALT and poor menz. The whole point of the ad is namalt and it's time for those who aren't like that to stand up and be counted.

As for all the people bleating about "adverts from multi national companies won't tell me how to live my life" they clearly have not picked up a magazine or watched an advert directed at women since time began advertising took hold. Marketing has been telling women how to be/telling men how women should be for most of living memory. Suck it up buttercup, at least you're getting something positive rather than how to wash up whilst still looking sexy for the menz or whatever shit the last several generations of women and had to endure.

So we should be so scared of toxic masculinity that we don't call it out because toxic men will hurt people in retaliation?Hmm

Why is staying silent better for people Holowiwi?Confused

IAmNotAWitch · 16/01/2019 05:52

Excellent comment in Sydney Morning Herald today:

"Looloo - If nothing else, this episode has really just demonstrated how emotional and irrational men can be when they're triggered. Hysterical (testerical?) perhaps.

It's just an ad, boys, get over it. Lighten up. Get a sense of humour and don't be so oversensitive. Honestly, men really will read sexism into situations where it just isn't there."

Snurk.

As I do all the razor buying around here I should balance out Piers Morgan.

I don't mind a good bit of marketing. I can appreciate the art.

Masculinity is ace, I love masculinity. Toxic masculinity is not. Nicely done Gilette.

HoraceCope · 16/01/2019 06:08

Great ad
