People expecting me to travel thousands of miles to attend their destination wedding.

People putting their name on waiting lists for designer handbags that cost thousands of pounds.

Pamper parties for 9 year olds.

Any other grumpy old ladies like to list the modern day nonsense they can live without?

Pride used to be a sin, didn't it? When did this change? It gives me hives to hear the boasting of all and sundry now.

When dd was in primary school they started the day with this song about how you are great and wonderful and the best etc etc. Self-esteem is good, but I was Hmm about the sentiment and thought a bit of humility might be in order!

Jitters22 · 15/01/2019 14:13

People who think the UK is the centre of the universe and the rest of the world are hanging on our every move.

Please note - the rest of the world does not give a shit. I have lived abroad in several countries and travelled to many more and trust me - the domestic goings on the UK (and even the EU), who says what in parliament and so on, don't even make the back page of the papers in 'the rest of the world'. There are 195 countries on planet earth and for most of them, what we do on our little North Atlantic Islands is of no interest to the vast majority.

They have their own people, governments, politics, problems, celebrities, TV, scandals, domestic japes, economics and so on. They really, really don't give a shit about ours.

I once watched a bit of the goings on in the Scottish Parliament and one SNP member stood up and said 'the eyes of the world are upon us' and I laughed out loud. She really thinks someone in Brazil or Japan or Nigeria and anywhere else gives a shit about what goes on in the Scottish Parliament ffs?

'The UK is a laughing stock' to the rest of the world - is a phrase I read regularly on various forums. Do people really think billions and billions of people spread across the globe are sitting there watching our every move and 'laughing'? THEY COULDN'T CARE LESS what we do, they have their own lives, families, countries and problems to deal with.

They might well be laughing at those deluded idiots who think that what we do here is of any interest whatsoever to the vast majority of the population of planet earth.

Grown woman on snapchat with dog ears and filters. We know what you really look like Sandra. . :o that made me pmsl!

DaysOfCurlySpencer · 15/01/2019 14:13

Phones permanently attached to body parts.

Hundreds of TV channels, where 3 or 4 would be adequate, if only there wasn't so much shit on them.

Children being bought every single toy/game/pair of poncy trainers that is invented and allowed to behave like ferals.

crochetmonkey74 · 15/01/2019 14:14

Yes to pride as a sin and also the lack of shame now is awful.
It seems anything can be explained/ excused as long as you say you 'need to do better'
Shame is sometimes useful!

cafenoirbiscuit · 15/01/2019 14:16

People having orange faces. No. It doesn’t look like you have a tan.
People sitting in the middle lane even though the slow lane is empty.
Most young girls apparently having panic atttcks or anxiety.
So many young folk claiming to be ‘bi’.
‘At the end of the day’
‘To be fair’

Kemer2018 · 15/01/2019 14:17

Shops which allow dogs. Ditto cafes.
Yeah, I see they're well behaved (unlike some children) but I don't want animals near me indoors.
Trans. Anything trans.

Whambamtama · 15/01/2019 14:17

Unnecessary abbreviations i.e. huge paragraph which you are unable to read without googling an acronym every sentence.

Grown adults riding around on children's scooters going about their business.

The term mansplaining as if women aren't every bit as guilty of explaining simple , obvious shit to men.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 15/01/2019 14:18

Pouty faces. Ridiculous eyebrows. MLM marketing. Instamums . Instacleaners. The current trend for singers to sing in a drawl like they can't be arsed.

IrmaFayLear · 15/01/2019 14:18

Shame is a much undervalued emotion!

Bad behaviour explained away by "issues". Someone on here a while ago was posting that she prevented someone siting next to her on a crowded bus by putting her bag on the seat - because she has "anxiety". This woman needed shaming for her outrageous behaviour, not a load of idiots placating her.

MyEyesAreNotDeceivingMe · 15/01/2019 14:19

I cancelled an optician's appointment because of the phrasing of their email.

“Mr Optometrist tried to reach out to you today to discuss your appointment for Otho-K lenses”. Reach Out? Reach out? Wtf.

So reach out annoys me no end.

lumpsofitroundtheback · 15/01/2019 14:19

People who persist in putting their bottles on the supermarket conveyor belt sideways so every time the belt moves they roll backwards and forwards all over my bunch of flowers or cake and squash them.
Put them end-on, you halfwits.

People who won't get in touch and demand that you use whatsapp when you have perfectly good email, landline, mobile and facebook that they could contact you on instead.
Sod off then.

Breakawaygirl · 15/01/2019 14:20

I agree re pride being everywhere nowadays. It's funny as I don't think being proud has anything to do with self-esteem. Healthy self-esteem is quite frankly quieter, more understated. The pride we see today is the opposite I think, trying to compensate for a lack of true self-esteem by appearing to be above everyone else.

I also hate boasters. People who boast about things like money, holidays, children or relationships (areas where many people struggle and suffer.) I think a little compassion and consideration wouldn't go amiss.

QueenofHarts · 15/01/2019 14:20

Loving this thread. I didn’t realise being frustrated by some of the above implied being a Mrs Grumpy. I must be the delux version Grin

Whambamtama · 15/01/2019 14:21

Replacing words with little pictures illustrating said word. What is this fucking primary 2?

thecatsarecrazy · 15/01/2019 14:22

Drawn on eyebrows
Huge fake nails
Baby showers
People posting every detail on f.b here we are having breakfast, here we are shopping, here we are having dinner. I don't care!

Constantly begging for money at school. My ds came home with a tube of smarties yesterday. Asked to fill it with 20ps for some festival.. Doesn't explain why they need money. I googled how many 20ps a smarties tube will take.. £12! On your bike. I have a money saving tin for my 20ps.

AllMYSmellySocks · 15/01/2019 14:22

Probably been mentioned already but people in public playing music/TV shows without headphones. If you really need music on as you walk to the bus stop or play football with your friends buy some bloody headphones.

JaneHare · 15/01/2019 14:23

All this anti-ageing shit. If you don't age - you die.

Stop making women feel shit because they have lines and wrinkles.
Have botox if you want to but don't say it just makes you look less cross. Be cross if you want to!

Breakawaygirl · 15/01/2019 14:24

May be an unpopular one, but people saying offensive things because they think you can't be an offended group.

Someone at work legitimately said to me 'all white people look the same to me, none of you look different from each other.' When I explained why that was rude, he replied, 'no it isn't, you can't be offended as your white.'

How about being considerate and kind to ALL people? Instead of ciphering everyone off into little groups and saying who should and shouldn't be upset be things?

Media baiting into race/sex/gender issues that most people don't really give much of a damn about...what are they distracting us from I wonder...

Expectation for women to use birth control when it makes many of us suicidal, depressed, anxious and gives you migraines.

haverhill · 15/01/2019 14:25

Bog roll stamps.
"Personal development". We're all developing personally every day. It isn't always in a good way, but we are.
The trend for half a pound of make-up on young women's faces.
"Influencers". Eff off.

Bloodybridget · 15/01/2019 14:25

@Bluthsfrozenbananas yesss fucking BBC icons wtaf? If I die of an apoplexy it is entirely their fault!

JudgeRulesNutterButter · 15/01/2019 14:26

The anti-expert trend atm. Experts are EXPERTS. It’s a thing. If two experts disagree, great let’s debate. If an uninformed unevidenced idiot with a theory they made up disagrees with the expert, they should be told to get to fuck, not given a platform.

Picnicinnovember · 15/01/2019 14:26

Yep agree with the 'anxiety' one as well. Not saying that it isn't a genuine and diagnosed issue for some people. But for others it's just a self imposed label that's trotted out anytime they don't want to do something. Feeling anxious or nervous about going somewhere is not a MH issue. It's just a normal feeling that many people, particularly those who are a bit shy or introverted, feel. Stop turning it into something it's not, and also have some respect for the people who really do suffer from a crippling anxiety that makes every day a struggle.

TheNoodlesIncident · 15/01/2019 14:27

People who say enthusiastically, "Yeah, great idea. Let's do that" when actually they mean "I would do that, but with someone else, not you".

Just say, "No, not for me sorry". I can't interpret Yes Great as No Never, my brain just doesn't work that way. If I say Yes, it's because I mean yes. Please be more honest, don't get my hopes up for them to be dashed yet again when I realise after Fobbing Off #2 that you didn't mean what you said. You've no idea how much courage I have to get up to suggest things, knowing I'll definitely most likely be knocked back

And now I feel whiny, godammit! Angry

Purplecatshopaholic · 15/01/2019 14:28

Oooh, some other ones..

reality 'stars';
kale;
snowflakes who get 'offended' over every little thing;
this current weird fascination with eyebrows;
people who say they have depression and/or anxiety and milk it - some of us actually have it and its awful!;
people who make a big song and dance about what they allegedly can and cant eat in a restaurant;
people bringing their babies into work - its a baby, get over it, I know what one looks like;
people who walk too slowly (Edinburgh streets are not that wide!)...

thanks OP this is really cathartic!
