If there was another Brexit referendum would you vote the same way?

By the way I am not for another Brexit referendum but I am seeing a lot about it on the news/social media and it got be wondering what everyone would vote if it did happen and what did you vote before? I voted remain and would vote remain again.

I voted remain and still would.

About half the people I know who voted leave would vote leave again if we had another referendum, the other half would either vote remain or not vote at all.

I found this article interesting:

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-leave-eu-remain-vote-support-against-poll-uk-europe-final-say-yougov-second-referendum-peter-a8541971.html

The gist is:
"Early next year (now) Britain will switch from a pro-Brexit to an anti-Brexit country. To be more precise: if not a single voter in the referendum two years ago changes their mind, enough mainly Leave voters will have died and enough mainly Remain voters will have reached voting age to wipe out the Leave majority achieved in June 2016."

I voted remain but would vote leave if there was another referendum. Not because I think we should be in this position. We should never have started the process but we have and if we do a U turn we will be in a severely weakened position within the union. They will know we have no alternatives. We will lose the permanent rebate (which has always been contentious) be forced into monetary union and end up a much greater net contributor. An EU whipping boy, cash cow and laughing stock.

Badstyley · 14/01/2019 23:27

Remain then, remain now.

birdsandroses · 14/01/2019 23:29

Remain then, remain now. We live in a global economy, one of trade blocs . The UK can’t keep the same good position politically and economically as now outside the structures of the global economy. So they either have to be close to the EU or the US. I take the EU every time! Much more protection.

birdsandroses · 14/01/2019 23:30

Typo, they, should be ‘we’ or the ‘UK’

ChasedByBees · 14/01/2019 23:30

Remain then, remain now.

Topseyt · 14/01/2019 23:33

Remain then and now. Even more strongly.

somewhereovertherain · 14/01/2019 23:38

Remain then remain now. DD is now old enough to vote and would remain.

The EU have stuck to pretty much the same position all along. It’s only are shit show of politicians trying to deliver the undeliverable. Let’s hope May looses and looses badly tomorrow

WhatshouldIpay · 14/01/2019 23:43

Voted leave - after being heavily influenced by the fiasco of VAT MOSS impacting my business.

Would vote remain now after seeing how badly the process is being managed.

WhatshouldIpay · 14/01/2019 23:46

I also believe that in any referendum that over 50% of the total number of people eligible to vote should be required to make a decision - not 50% of the turnout. I am old enough to remember the Scottish devolution vote in the 70's

AmperoBlue · 14/01/2019 23:48

Leave then. Still leave now. Double leave in fact.
Really cross that there is no proper exit just some half attempt at out.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 14/01/2019 23:50

Remain then and remain now.

The majority of people I know voted remain and they would do the same.

My DP's step dad voted leave however he doesn't want 'those lot in his country' so I'm sure he's not changed his mind.

We now know what we're facing and what we've voting for, all of us. Nobody had an idea before and now they do, so I personally think it is fair to do a vote. Not because I want it to go 'my way' but because we now know the options, we know what the deal will be and we should vote on that.

Chocrock · 14/01/2019 23:50

Remain. Remain.

arethereanyleftatall · 14/01/2019 23:51

Leave and leave.

moredoll · 14/01/2019 23:58

Remain then. Remain now.

SillySallySingsSongs · 14/01/2019 23:59

But the racism and xenophobia from the vast majority? Truly hideous.

Nothing like stereotyping 17m people hey Hmm

BurpsandHustles · 14/01/2019 23:59

Remain but would vote leave now.
I've learned much more about the eu after the referendum to be honest. I just sort of couldn't see why anyone would want to leave and I didn't think about my vote.

A few remainer friends would also vote leave.
I'm a swing voter mostly voting Labour.
I couldn't vote Labour if election held now though, I couldn't vote for corbyn.

TheWomanin12B · 15/01/2019 00:01

Remain. Still remain. Furious at having my rights stripped from me. White hot furious about the whole thing.

BurpsandHustles · 15/01/2019 00:02

Oh yes and what figure of 8 said. To remain now would truly be weakened laughing stock territory.

lostinjapan · 15/01/2019 00:11

Remain before, leave now. Although I was very torn on the first vote and would be the same if there was a second, so I haven’t had a massive change in opinion.

scaryteacher · 15/01/2019 00:14

Leave then and leave now. Dh the same. Ds was remain, but would now vote Leave I think.

WiddlinDiddlin · 15/01/2019 00:15

Remain then, remain now.

Referendums have limited usefulness in finding out what the people want when the choices are clear cut - in situations like this where the details were NOT clear to anyone AND then there were lies upon lies... pointless.

Referendums are also NOT cast iron, never-turned-over things, referendums across the western world are frequently ignored/over turned by the respective governments.

This idea that a government has to or should stick by the results of a referendum is nonsense and has no basis in history/politics at all.

Now if you ask me whether i think we should have joined the EU in teh first place... no i dont think we should have. But we did. And given the lack of time machine to transport britain back... i think remaining is the better option.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 15/01/2019 00:16

This is our last chance to leave, we need to get out before we are trapped forever.

Namenic · 15/01/2019 00:17

Votes remain, still remain BUT

I think I would be torn as to whether I prefer withdrawal agreement or no deal (probably marginally go for withdrawal agreement). The point of a 2nd referendum would be to gauge support for different options. Therefore listing options in preference order with an AV voting system (have several rounds and remove least popular one each time and redistribute the votes of everyone who listed that) would be sensible. It Gives a clearer picture of what people want - as the statement ‘leave means leave’ is meaningless - which type of leave?

My preferences:

  1. Remain, 2. Withdrawal agreement, 3.!no deal

The EU once again are calling all the shots. The bully won. As you were minions, we have you all in our hands. Dear me, wake up and smell the coffee

Umm no. The bully lost and the bully is crying about it and feeling like the victim as bullies always do. The UK tried, like it always has, to bully Ireland into doing what the UK wanted. This time out, Ireland, as a part of the EU, is the significantly bigger power and held firm. Not being allowed to bully smaller countries is not you being bullied.
