I'll start.

Céline Dion - Fly

Bloody hell, what a song. I only just discovered it today. The feel of the song and the lyrics are out of this world. Truly amazing. And extremely comforting if you've been through a child loss. Listen if you have the time Thanks

On a lighter note, Let's here it for the boy - Deniece Williams Grin

Woman in Chains - Tears for Fears
Time - The Alan Parsons Project
Adult Education - Hall and Oates
Careless Memories - Duran Duran
Like Her - Mandalay
High Hopes - Pink Floyd
Out on the Tiles - Led Zeppelin

Oh, and Voodoo Child by Jimi Hendrix.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 15/01/2019 07:22

lamfrau Fake is excellent, Criticise gets all the airplay but I think not as strong a song

VQ1970 · 15/01/2019 07:41

Forever Autumn by Justin Hayward.

I remember hearing it for the first time in the car, we were on holiday and driving through Wales. Every time I hear it I get a split second feeling of being in that car. I didn't know anything about the song but I wrote down the title and artist in my notebook at the time. I've since seen him do it live and never expected that when I was 8 years old!

Another vote for Will You. I think Hazel O'Connor generally is underrated but I absolutely love that song.

Lots of songs on here I like but a few I've not heard so will look them up.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 15/01/2019 07:45

War of The Worlds itself too ... the narration from Richard Burton is wonderful, he had a voice like honey!
Parts of the album terrified me and I remember being obsessed with looking at my dads album cover artwork

LadyBrienne · 15/01/2019 07:55

I wish there was a way of making all of these into a mumsnet playlist on apple .....

MissingGeorgeMichael · 15/01/2019 08:04

Cowboys and Angels- George Michael

Out of all his albums, Listen Without Prejudice and is my favourite. Not one dud song.

A few others that you might like to listen to:

Sometimes It Snows In April - Prince
The Life - Wendy and Lisa
It's Got To Be Love - Bucks Fizz Blush
My Church - Maren Morris
Angel's Cry - Mariah Carey
Downeaster Alexa - Billy Joel

ManicUnicorn · 15/01/2019 08:07

The Reason by Hoobastank.

The Reason by Hoobastank

Was just coming on to say that song.

CoughLaughFart · 15/01/2019 10:52

Love Moves In Mysterious Ways by Julia Fordham, what a song and beautiful voice

Pretty much ANYTHING by Julia Fordham. ‘Girlfriend’ is a work of genius and ‘Tower Block’ made me cry the first time I heard it.

CoughLaughFart · 15/01/2019 10:53

Anything at all by LP ... how she isn't a massive star already I don't know.

‘Other People’ was everywhere when I was in the Baltics last summer ( she’s big in that part of the world). I loved that song on first listen.

DarlingNikita · 15/01/2019 12:24

Janet Jackson's whole Control album. Maybe not underrated per se, but more 'deserves a revisit'. A stone-cold classic.

Song-wise, I think Alexander O' Neale's Criticiz is deathless.

Raahh · 15/01/2019 12:25

'Careful' by Horse (McDonald).From 1989?

I love this song- and it was one of the very first things I looked up when I first discovered You Tube .There's a re-mix I don't like, but a proper version is on there.

(The very first song I looked up was 'Lean on Me' by Red BoxGrin).

A few years back Will Young did a cover at a festival (might have been coverage of Glastonbury, or Reading, can't remember). He did an ok job. Grin

Amazing voice. She's still going strong, Horse, as far as I know.

OboePlayingImmortalRabbit · 15/01/2019 13:26

The Day Before You Came - Abba

Oh, and now someone else has mentioned Bucks Fizz I feel a bit braver about adding another one of theirs! - Now Those Days Are Gone. Beautiful.

dustarr73 · 15/01/2019 14:07

I have just lost my morning to that spotify list.Amazing songs/

Unbelievable18 · 15/01/2019 14:13

How do we add the new suggestions to it?

IamFrauBlucher · 15/01/2019 14:59

@Unbelievable18 just search for the songs and add to the playlist on the link below. It's collaborative so you can add yourself.

https://open.spotify.com/user/escuriotoro/playlist/7lbFW3AdNilPyJyDKZH389?si=K5sRvtP6R1u-Wq2HTBhdOw

Or search MN - The underrated if the link doesn't work.

Rememory · 15/01/2019 15:15

Yes Raahh. I follow Horse on Instagram in the hope of seeing her live again. Careful is one of my favorites and I loved Will Young's cover.

I've fallen down a You Tube hole watching The River Detectives as they're not on Apple Music or Spotify thanks to a previous poster.

species5618 · 15/01/2019 15:52

Anything by Heilung.
Throat singing/pre medieval chanting based on old european pagan beliefs. Seems to touch something within me.
Helps to watch a live performance as it adds so much more.
Link on youtube

Turquoisetamborine · 15/01/2019 17:53

@nowifi I think Paul draper still tours. I had tickets to see him in Newcastle last year but he’d left the stage in a strop I think the night before so I didn’t bother. In their heyday they were unmatched!

RecentlyDeLurked · 15/01/2019 18:41

Me again with another Jack Savoretti sing, 'Broken Glass'
Love the opening : 'Broken glass on the floor by my bed, lying next to books I've never even read'

Gstaaddad · 15/01/2019 18:47

Old and Wise - The Alan Parsons Project
Twist in my Sobriety - Tanita Tikaram
Every Day is like Sunday - Morrissey

mrsglowglow · 15/01/2019 19:33

What a great playlist! Listening as I make the lunches for tomorrow and clean my kitchen. Much better for the soul than listening to the Brexit drivel Grin Thank you!

CatnissEverdene · 15/01/2019 19:43

I'm on fire - Bruce Springsteen. Makes the hairs on my neck stand up.

Ordinary World by Duran Duran.

Us against the world by Coldplay.

HastingsLikeTheBattle · 15/01/2019 20:20

Lurking but thanks for so many amazing songs, and the playlist which I'm now following Grin
