To ask for songs you think are underrated?

I'll start.

Céline Dion - Fly

Bloody hell, what a song. I only just discovered it today. The feel of the song and the lyrics are out of this world. Truly amazing. And extremely comforting if you've been through a child loss. Listen if you have the time Thanks

On a lighter note, Let's here it for the boy - Deniece Williams Grin

OP posts:
IamFrauBlucher · 14/01/2019 22:08

@WeepingSong I don't think his songs are underrated though. Grin

Normally when there's a music thread - romantic, meaningful, memories etc someone will always list a few Nick Cave songs, usually starting with Into my arms, or The Ship song....

Threehoursfromhome · 14/01/2019 22:18

I'm a big Nick Cave fan, but I woulddn't clasee him and the Bad seeds as under-rated. I think the people who like them, rate them highly. Perhaps not everyone has heard of them, but their fanbase is very loyal.

Underrated, I think of being more for things like Hanson and Mmmbop. and what people were saying about them being seen as one hit wonders / pre-teens singing in squeaky voices but actually it's a song with an unexpectedly meaningful message.

RachelRosie · 14/01/2019 22:20

Another vote for Drops of Jupiter - Train...

Also, You Only Get What You Give - New Radicals.

The Sainsburys advert was pure joy for me. So pleased to hear it again.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 14/01/2019 22:25

Ahhh that New Radicals one is ace, that advert was just brilliant!

Runaway Train by Soul Asylum anyone?

thebigmaniswatching · 14/01/2019 22:25

I’ve jst added disturbed sound of silence and a kodaline song that’s jst beautiful. I’ve recently discovered them and have to say I can’t believe I’ve never come across them before, I haven’t listened to a song of theirs yet that I haven’t liked!

IamFrauBlucher · 14/01/2019 22:27

@Iamblossom - I had Colonel Abraham's Trapped on repeat for about 2 hours when I was getting ready to go out a few weeks ago.

What a song!

I only changed it in the car to intersperse with Rockwell "Somebodys watching me" and Alexander o Neale "Fake"

They are all going on. Grin

Yabbers · 14/01/2019 22:31

@Mammyloveswine

DD and I were singing it loud this evening. She does an excellent “mommee, ahhh sure doo luuurve you” 😂

dustarr73 · 14/01/2019 22:35

The Connells 74-75 have updated that video. Its so sad

IamFrauBlucher · 14/01/2019 22:43

@Yabbers - hopefully I'm not responsible for the crud Grin although I am tempted to add "Kung fu fighting" by Carl Douglas so others can share in its genius. GrinGrinGrin

But one mans crud is another mans memory...so it's a real mix of indie/country/kitsch/synth/new age/romantic/goth/rock

A Smorgasbord of Vipers one could say. Wink

Feels kind of special though, love it or hate it. 34 followers. Feel free to keep adding folks!

Iggii · 14/01/2019 22:48

If I Cant Change your Mind by Sugar is a fab song

Pinkclarko · 14/01/2019 22:54

This thread has been enlightening

YourWinter · 14/01/2019 22:57

Wow, what a list - thanks for the Spotify link.

I second (third? fourth?) so many, not sure they're all really underrated though. Will You is surely seen as a classic. Hold Me Now ditto. Yes, McAlmont and Butler, is brilliant - last time I heard it on radio was Jo Whiley on her Radio 2 evening show a few years ago. Radio 2 often play the lovely Where Have All The Cowboys Gone. Also more votes for Duel, and High and Dry.

I'd add:
For No-One - The Beatles
(There's hardly a Beatles track that I don't love but this, in all its simplicity, catches my throat every time I hear it - wasn't a single)
The Weakness In Me - Joan Armatrading
Razzamatazz - Pulp
Nothing Lasts Forever - Echo and The Bunnymen
Poor Misguided Fool - Starsailor

BabiaMajora · 14/01/2019 23:18

No Me, No You, No More - The Staves

The story of the blues by wah. It brings back such good memories of youth. It never appears on any 80's programs or compilations though.

GabsAlot · 14/01/2019 23:43

SapphireSeptember · 15/01/2019 01:34

Evanescence, Hello. On a stonkingly good album this song always seems overlooked (probably because they've never played it live.) It's incredibly emotional.

notsurewhatshappening · 15/01/2019 01:42

Oasis- Champagne Supernova

SimplySteve · 15/01/2019 02:06

Thunderstone - Land of Innocence
It's an epic rock song, I highly recommend.

Hinder - Lips of an Angel

Darren Hayes - Insatiable Blush

Chvrches - The Mother We Share

Armin van Buuren ft Gabriel & Dresden - Zocalo

BT - Force of Gravity

Sergey Nevone & Simon O'Shine - Last Goodbye. (Just OMFG)

Please enjoy and I'd love your feedback!

Franheaton · 15/01/2019 02:16

Colonel Abrams was on the TOTP repeats a few months ago. I googled him and apparently he died penniless and alone. Very sad really.

Adding my voice to the Wah!-lovers on here plus Pete Wylie was a bit of a looker which helped.

Then Jericho had that one cracking tune but carried on gigging and the singer is a fucking headcase. All sorts of extreme behaviour resulting in life threatening injuries.

Agree about the Cindi Lauper number. I absolutely loved it at the time but had forgotten it until mentioned on here because you really never hear it at all. Thank you!

My nomination apart from the above would be Run Baby Run by Sheryl Crow. About alienation and difficulty resulting from radical political beliefs and how these resonate through generations as "the system" continues churning. A nice little reminder that even successful musicians are ultimately outsiders.

SusieQ5604 · 15/01/2019 02:47

The Weight by The Band
Rosalita by Bruce Springsteen
