To ask your work 'perks'

WhoTookTheChristmasCookie · 12/01/2019 10:49

I've read a story this morning about the employees of a company being up in arms that their 'free, unlimited beer' perk has been limited.
Due to noise complaints and a concern for the working environment they've been 'rationed' to four glasses between 5 and 7pm on Thursday and Friday.

I'm gobsmacked!!!

Before that they were able to drink as much as they wanted whenever they wanted throughout the working day - how was any work getting done?

Are job perks like this normal? I was lucky enough to get a free tea in my last job and that was subject to conditions Grin
Does your job give you good perks? If so, where do you work? I'm on the hunt for a new job!

I'm starting to regret joining the NHS...

JollyGiraffe · 12/01/2019 11:42

Oh yes, also a flu jab and nandos discount!

Aridane · 12/01/2019 11:43

We are allowed to get personal post and packages at work (as long as we collect from post room).

I cannot begin to describe how helpful that is for all my online shopping!

(At my previous place of work, for various reasons, it was not permitted absence approval of a line manager).

ChrisPrattsFace · 12/01/2019 11:43

Cost price medications for my animals.
That’s it.
Occasionally a free lunch if included in a CPD.

mbb1 · 12/01/2019 11:45

Free parking - in Cambridge, so worth a lot.

TootTootPeanutbutter · 12/01/2019 11:45

When I worked in an admin job the GM was lovely and regularly bought us treats and once a month took all of us of us out for lunch.

I've worked in care. I sometimes got to go to the cinema, concert, or theatre for free. (At client's request I might add).

How could I forget this: long service leave (LSL), a feature of Australian life.

After 7 continuous years with one employer, an employee can have 6.1 weeks of paid LSL. It continues to accrue every year and can be taken in chunks, on full or half pay.

TootTootPeanutbutter · 12/01/2019 11:47

Wind only at Christmas. I get wind all year round. Grin

viques · 12/01/2019 11:48

Ex teacher.

Free nits, ringworm and threadworms.

Free pizza (paid for by HT) on open evenings .

All the rock hard sludged up plasticine I could ever hope to use in a lifetime.

I seem to have acquired a number of pairs of blunt school scissors which I suppose I could bundle up and return anonymously along with the yellow pencils .

A lifetime of memories, mostly good, some sad, some hilarious.

Some good friends.

SureIusedtobetaller · 12/01/2019 11:48

Free tea and coffee, free car parking, long holidays, flu jab although I get one free anyway.
Occasional lunch for inset.
Not much but I have my own classroom and I love that. Dunno why but it’s like my little nest!

leghairdontcare · 12/01/2019 11:49

Sometimes they put on a buffet for important visitors and my office is next door to the conference room and we get the leftovers.

Xenadog · 12/01/2019 11:49

Free tea and coffee and free lunches.

Witchend · 12/01/2019 11:50

Free hot drinks and biscuits.
Free carparking (and it's in town so we have it for weekend and evenings too)
We occasionally get free Krispy Kreme Donuts too. Someone comes in and hands us a box.

I can bring ds in when he's ill (but not infectious)/on holiday and he goes on a spare computer.

Mrskeats · 12/01/2019 11:50

self employed-main perks are being able to do at lot of work on the sofa, in pyjamas with a dog on my knee Grin

viques · 12/01/2019 11:52

I have just remembered a metre or so of yellowing sticky back plastic which I brought home to do something with many years ago, didn't, and never took back because it would have been like a bank employee retuning a few bank notes they had spare.......

Whatabloodymessthisis · 12/01/2019 11:53

Some of these are amazing! They must really boost morale. Any job which supplied me with pizza would be a keeper for me (should probably just become a dominos delivery driver).

HermioneWeasley · 12/01/2019 11:53

Echt - a pension definitely is a perk even if (gasp) you have to pay into it! They cost companies millions.

I get traditional stuff - pension, company car, health insurance, and a bonus. Also an amazing subsidised canteen and free parking.

codenameduchess · 12/01/2019 11:53

@LaurieMarlow Unlimited free beer is pretty standard if you work for a drinks company. is it???! I'm changing industry immediately! 😂

I get agile/flexi working and tea, coffee and milk. Very few perks in the third sector but we get to see the real life benefits to service users

TootTootPeanutbutter · 12/01/2019 11:53

Accounts job. We got a free toastie/roll and bacon/sausage once a week. Also free pizza, drinks and snacks if we stayed on to help with the stock take. That was so easy. The manager counted everything and I just had to sit in a chair and write down the number he said. It was definitely worth doing for free pizza.

bubblegumunicorn · 12/01/2019 11:55

They lock the windows and balconys so we dont commit suicide! - Legit how my boss sold that too me! I wouldn't say I have a career though just a job. I would love to know some of the job roles where you get to travel thats a dream perk for me!

BlueSatsuma · 12/01/2019 11:56

Teacher - struggling to think of perks😳

We even have to pay for hot water, not even tea and coffee, just if you bring your own and use the staff room kettle you have to contribute to the cost of boiling the kettle!

ChestyNut · 12/01/2019 11:59

Good pension
Good holiday entitlement
Erm that’s it ......NHS

Isth · 12/01/2019 12:01

Building materials at cost + 5% (I work in a builders merchants 😂) plus a Christmas bonus (under £1000 but still very much appreciated) and as long as we get the work done, a lot of flexibility.

Whatabloodymessthisis · 12/01/2019 12:02

I think a huge perk would be flexi hours, working from home etc. That can save families hundreds which is more beneficial than snacks etc.

HotChoc10 · 12/01/2019 12:02

I work for a university. Good pension - for now, as they're trying to cut it. I could get a heavy subsidy to do a part time degree but I haven't taken advantage of that.
