To think you don’t bloody sneeze in public?Probably get flamed for this but I absolutely detest people sneezing openly in public. It spreads germs and it’s NOT THAT HARD to internally sneeze as in like hold yourself back when you sneeze!

What about you hygiene pet peeves?

Another one is LICKING THE SUPERMARKET BAGS....why?! Why would I want you to slurp on your finger and then use your saliva to lubricate my bag and then continue to put my fresh produce into said bag. EW EW EW.

PS. Don’t say people can’t help sneezing, because unless you are challenged in someway , you ABSOLUTELY can.

Sneezing isn't a problem, but I hate those people who purposely dramatise their sneeze and force it to be louder and stronger (not sure of thats the right word?) Than it needs to be.

Just yesterday I watched the shopping packer in the local supermarket lick her fingers open a bag and put unpackaged bread rolls in. Yuk

I stifle my sneezes, I hate doing it but when I was a kid my mum made a massive thing about how I "sneezed like a man" and should "be more ladylike" so now it is automatic.

When I sneeze it's like a giant "whooopoooo" sneeze not a dainty lady sneeze. I imagine my head would jettison 5 foot off my shoulders if I tried to keep it in*

One of the very few times a comment on MN has genuinely made me laugh out loud!

Irma I've ever learnt how not todo the giant whoooooosh sneezes. Are there classes I could take to learn how to do newborn kitten sneezes?

What about coughing?

And breathing?

And using a tiny bit of saliva to help open a bag? Really?

You need to get out more, OP. Preferably in a HazMat suit.

Why is sitting on a loo gross? You can't catch anything from a loo seat.

Hover weeing is not good for you - and is far more likely to make the mess of the loo seat that you are trying to avoid by not sitting on it.

Yes you sneeze into your elbow. It's not a good idea to try to stifle a sneeze. Holding my nose used to sometimes help but when I heard about that guy who did himself serious harm I stopped. However, I don't think people need to make a loud noise when they sneeze, it must be possible to be a bit quieter.

The bad thing about sneezing is when you are driving. I take my foot off the gas when I feel one coming, but there's not much else you can do unless you've somewhere safe to stop very very quickly.

Sniffing! I retired 4 years ago but to get to work I commuted into London on crowded trains. As soon as the colder weather arrived the sniffing would start. And because you see the same people on the train every day, you get to know the sniffers. It becomes like a Chinese water torture when you know that any second now, there’s another sniff coming —. oooh there it was! Why didn’t I sit elsewhere? Because there would almost certainly be other sniffers elsewhere!

While growing up, my Mum would pull us up every time we sniffed so I learnt to have tissues or a hanky to hand all the time. And I still do.

Hovering to wee as mentioned upthread utterly revolving too, not to mention difficult. I don't want to find your urine on the seat thanks.

Silly post. Of course you can't stop a sneeze every time.

I'll sneeze as much as I like thanks! You don't own the air...

I get really severe hayfever and have it about 9 months of the year - I can sneeze 50 times a day easily when it is bad (despite meds).

if I tried to keep that many sneezes in I'd do myself serious harm! I do use tissues, wash hands etc and avoid sneezing near to people/food etc but I can't always help it.

Instead of me keeping sneezes in - how about you do something about your silly germ phobia?

Hmmm I wear short sleeves year round, menopause hah.so I would have to sneeze into my shoulder which given I am not a flexible 20 years old anymore means half sneezing into my shoulder, the rest spraying Joe public. Also most times I sneeze it's cos I have a lousy cold and snot pours out of my nose. Not practical then to either hold it back or shoulder sneeze. I do carry mountains of tissues with me though. And use them all in a day.

Sometimes I unroll the loose produce or bakery bags, throughly caress the inside of each with my tongue, then roll 'em all back up again.

I’m amazed that there are still some ladies who don’t do a hover-wee.

  1. Hover wees are bad for you as it doesn't completely empty your bladder.

  1. You are extremely unlikely to catch anything bad from a toilet seat unless it was visibly dirty and you had an open cut on your bottom. Give it a wipe with some loo roll and sit on it for fucks sake. You're more likely to catch something from the door handle on your way out.

  1. All the disgusting people hovering are the very reason the seats and floors get sprinkled with piss in the first place. You're not reacting to the problem, you're causing it.

Sneezing into your clothes isn’t about being less disgusting it’s much safer from an infection POV!

Germs live longer on hands (warm, potentially moist) and are more easily spread when you touch your face, hair, door handles, railings, etc on your way to go wash them whereas the crook of your arm doesn't really touch anything.

This deserves to be repeated several times.

Bloody hell, my sneezes are massive and often multiple. There's no way I can hold them in as they hurt enough already.

If I concentrate really hard, I can manage not to fart when I sneeze, though.

Actually, if you ever fold your arms, then the hands do. Shock

Nothing is safe!!!

Better wear a mask and keep washing your hands (the hand sanitizers also do very little for viruses).

If you feel a sneeze coming on either press the end of your nose or push your tongue up against the inside of your top lip - that should stop it... - oh and I can stop my hiccups by mind over matter - yes, really! Shock

I'm going to invest in a bubble, like a giant hamster ball but sterile. Hovering over the loo while I'm inside it might be a challenge but at least the sneezes won't get me.

I've always wondered if people also hover at home after a guest has used their toilets or if they rush in with the bleach.

When I try to ‘internally sneeze’, I end up peeing my pants. I willingly accept this is my problem with a post-childbirth pelvic floor. But which is worse, a sneeze or someone standing there in a puddle of urine?

I worry about some people’s ‘education’ I wonder if basic infections contol modules should be given to kids in school. Not old wives tales about evil bog seats and it’s ok to sneeze into your hand if you don’t have a tissue as it’s much more horrible to sneeze into your clothes. Even though it’s safer

You can tell on here who is NHS Wink
