I like Daenerys but I’m hoping for Jon Snow to get his happy ever after, and Arya too :)

My principle annoyance about the Littlefinger thing, is that they made it a 'shock twist' but we didn't actually get to see the girls have their lightbulb moment and team up and I think that it really missed a trick in leaving out two young women realising they are being gaslighted by a bloke and fucking him over, an important lesson for viewers of Sophie and Maisie's age.

But the showrunners are male so...

BartonHollow · 12/03/2019 00:41

Rewatching has made me remember the storylines that I absolutely hated though

Dany In Qarth
Dany In Meereen
The High Sparrow
Molestown and anything involving Nights Watch but not featuring Jon
The Waif in Braavos
Everything Bran except when they actually get in the tree

All absolute snoozefests

SweetSummerchild · 12/03/2019 08:20

There are so many subtle little ‘thing’s going on in the books that you just can’t put across in a show, no matter how faithful it tries to be.

For example:

  • Arya telling the Frey squire at Harrenhaal that she hopes his princess dies (not realising she’s talking about herself)
  • The three missing Freys that never made it to the wedding but three large pies did
  • The wisdom of the Ghost of High Heart, Patchface, Quaithe and Mormont’s raven. Many of the predictions could refer to multiple characters, such as the maiden slaying the giant and the identity of the perfumed seneschal
  • The unkiss and its significance, which I completely missed during my first read of the books
  • The whole visions in the House of the Undying

To me, one of the biggest letdowns of the series (and the first thing that really turned me against it) was the burning of Shireen. Whilst it has obviously been foreshadowed a lot in the book series, its execution (excuse the pun) in the show was terrible. It was obviously just put in for shock value and because ‘it had to happen’ as it served no other narrative purpose. OK, it turned Davos against Melissandre, but he never really supported her anyway.

SweetSummerchild · 12/03/2019 08:21

I also hated Sam at the Unseen University with Maester Slughorn and Jorah Connington. What a waste of a storyline!

CantBelieveMyLuck · 12/03/2019 08:36

I really really really want Jaime & Brienne to unite & live happily ever after.

Started watching it again from the beginning, also wondering if we will see any more books from GRRM, or if he's gone, ah the TV can do the ending for me.

OneInAMillionYou · 12/03/2019 09:23

Barton
It's like we think with one mind... Your list of storylines you disliked is IDENTICAL to mine 😱

That bloody High Sparrow.. I've never fast forwarded so much in my life.
I've also sped through all of the Ramsey/Theon torture scenes, so tedious

TinselAngel · 12/03/2019 09:50

Jojen and Meera Reed, or "Boring side characters numbers one and two" as we call them.

AngeloMysterioso · 12/03/2019 11:04

Maester Slughorn Grin

TinselAngel · 18/03/2019 20:43

I was just lying in the bath, thinking about GoT as one does, and I wondered, just because Bran says Jon is a Targaryen, doesn't mean anybody outside the family will necessarily take his word for it.

Will Jon have to ride a dragon to prove it?

Or will Jon keep the knowledge secret because he'd rather just rule the North anyway?

Springiscomingsoon · 18/03/2019 20:52

@TinselAngel but Bran has Samwell Tarly to back up his Jon news Wink

TinselAngel · 18/03/2019 20:55

Only that they were married. Not that he's their child?

StoatofDisarray · 18/03/2019 20:59

I want Tyrion on the Iron Throne, with Sansa as his Queen, and John Snow as King in the North. I hope Jaime doesn't die, and that he and Brienne can get together. I want Ser Davos and Yara to live, and I want the little bear Mormont girl to kick ass. I like her much better than Arya. I could take or leave Cersei and Danaerys. I hope all the dragons die because they upset the balance of power too much. Sorry dragons! Or that Danaerys dies and they fly off and live elsewhere. That would be better - then Jon can raise their child. Oh and Melisandre can cock right off. I hope all the Stark dead rise from the crypts and there is a battle of the dead!

BartonHollow · 18/03/2019 21:06

It will be immense if we get undead Sean Bean. I live for that idea. Arya is running from something in that trailer.

TinselAngel · 18/03/2019 21:13

When Ned's bones were returned to Catelyn, I assumed at the time they wouldn't have bothered to get his head down off the spike, but thinking about it more I suppose they must have done as her face shows recognition when she opens the box.

StoatofDisarray · 18/03/2019 21:13

Barton: yeah, running from something that terrifies her in a way we have never seen before! I wonder if it is her dad?!

StoatofDisarray · 18/03/2019 21:14

Of course Sam deserves to live happily ever after, not that GRRM will give two hoots about that...

BartonHollow · 18/03/2019 21:25

His head was on a spike for a bit, so he won't look quite right

Springiscomingsoon · 20/03/2019 18:47

Nice interview with Kit Harrington in the link below. He thought he was a bad actor!

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/variety.com/2019/tv/features/kit-harington-game-of-thrones-finale-jon-snow-1203165896/amp/

Also towards the end he talks about filming the last season and mentions other actors coming and going but seems like he was there the whole time - does that mean he makes it to the end?

crispysausagerolls · 21/03/2019 11:16

I want a thread about the difference between the books and the show - I’m a bit. 😱 at some of the stuff going down in book 3

MummBraTheEverLeaking · 21/03/2019 11:53

I think Jaime will kill Cersei, I can sympathise with her to some extent -thinking she'll marry a prince and make babies and be happy, bit like Sansa in S1, but that goes tits up and she finds out she's nothing more to her father than chattel, a brood mare to marry off to a bloke who doesn't love her. Then when he snuffs it her dad comes in to wed her off again, and all it's clear all the top dogs in the kingdom undermine her because she doesn't have a penis. She gets one over on everyone but pays a high price.

Anyway, she'll stick her head in the sand over the white walkers, do something shit crazy and Jaime will take her out.

I like the idea of Jon and Danys child as ruler with Tyrion and Sansa as regents. Dany will snuff it, and Jon will be King In the North. Or he'll snuff it too and Sansa will be Queen In The North instead. Arya will be the lone wolf, and go off exploring over the wall. Everyone else, meh. Come the final battle someone or a lot of them will die.

It won't be a super happy ending for anyone, but someone has to emerge a bit victorious, it'll be a shit ending for everyone to die and the white walkers just mulling about the place.

BartonHollow · 21/03/2019 11:58

Book 3 is fairly accurately done IIRC it was after that they started going off road. crisp

TinselAngel · 21/03/2019 12:06

Surely Jon Snow has to kill the Night King, thus getting rid of the White Walkers and the Army of the Dead. Possibly via a dragon riding duel which would be SO COOL.

If this happens there's a real chance my DD (and possibly me) will expire from sheer excitement).

OneInAMillionYou · 21/03/2019 15:50

I watched a programme on Sky last night, I think it was broadly a repeat with a couple of new bits? 'Top 25 Moments in GoT'.

One of them was Viserion being speared by the Night King. It suddenly occurred to me, as that was happening, why didn't Dany get Drogon to take him out in a ball of flame? He's right there, with his senior bods, and there are two functioning dragons to turn him into toast.

That was the first time that thought occurred to me 🙄 Anyone else see it?

I broadly agreed with the choices, mainly obvious dramatic scenes, but my favourite single scene wasn't in the top 25.
I love the moment we see Arya's horse crest the hill overlooking Winterfell as she heads 'home'. I cried buckets at that moment, the cinematography was perfect, the music was brilliant....

( I won't mention the shitshow sitcom with the guards a few moments later, that was so annoying when I was in the mood for an emotional reunion with Sansa, and seeing her surprise).

crispysausagerolls · 14/04/2019 15:48

Anyone up at 2am to watch?!

ADrabLittleCrab · 14/04/2019 17:22

Yep, a sleep on the sofa with alarm set. We're off on holiday tomorrow and won't be able to watch 9pm.
