I like Daenerys but I’m hoping for Jon Snow to get his happy ever after, and Arya too :)

Green screen it if they have to dammit. Grin

Joking aside, I think Bronn delivered the lols and so D&D pushed him, but I don’t think he’s that crucial for the endgame and they probably have enough to do without finding him a role. Sadly.

LaurieMarlow · 07/03/2019 23:17

please don't say we won't get another book. I have convinced myself the delay has been deliberate, to let the show finish so that then GRRM can release something 10000x more epic and put it to shame.

I’m being deliberately pessimistic as a coping strategy.

I would be walking on fucking air if they announced the publication date for Winds of Winter during/just after the show airs, but I can’t let myself believe because l’ll be devastated if it doesn’t materialise.

I’ve convinced myself that George has lost interest in the SOIAF books l. Certainly looks like he’d prefer to spend his time writing about Targaryen ancestors that no one else gives a shit about Sad

UsedtobeFeckless · 07/03/2019 23:28

He knows there's a market at the moment for whatever random GOT related stuff he flops out so he's making the most of it - Winds Of Winter can wait ... Bastard.

UsedtobeFeckless · 07/03/2019 23:30

Why can't thingy and whatsit be in a scene together?

TinselAngel · 07/03/2019 23:32

They were shagging IRL at one point and it ended badly.

It's a shame as it's where Bronn's storyline would logically go.

LaurieMarlow · 07/03/2019 23:33

Because they used to go out and now can’t stand the sight of one another so they’ve a veto on scenes together written into their contracts.

UsedtobeFeckless · 07/03/2019 23:46

Aaah ... Pity, Bronn and Circe would be even funnier than Bronn and Jaime - l have a feeling Bronn actually quite likes Jaime and it's not totally all about the castles ...

GrimDamnFanjo · 08/03/2019 01:09

I still think George is using the TV series to troll us.
I'll bet the books will differ greatly if e ever get to read them... Wink

BartonHollow · 08/03/2019 01:47

The funny thing about my rewatch is :

You know how the "stars of the show" get listed on the theme tune credits?

And the random, this guy was also in it, but he's not important are at the end

So many of those "also" are now fully household names with star billing, and in certain cases have eclipsed the billed stars

Eg

Jason Momoa and Natalie Dormer vs Isaac Hampstead Wright and Michelle Fairley

crispysausagerolls · 11/03/2019 17:54

So in the books Jon Snow is a warg - is there a chance of him warging into the dead dragon?! Are they going to do some sort of warg reveal or is that simply not going to be a thing in the show?!

LaurieMarlow · 11/03/2019 19:59

I always thought Bran would warg a dragon.

Isn’t there a line in the book along the lines of ‘you’ll never walk but you will fly’?

I wonder will we see Meera again?

BartonHollow · 11/03/2019 20:04

They've never followed through on the fact that he's a warg, in show terms

This is why I have strong suspicions that post were we are up to in the books they will differ dramatically from the show

And they HAVE to really I mean

At the end of Book 5

We have :

Young Griff...another Targaryen (half brother to Jon) or a pretender?

Jon is dead, resurrection unknown

Brienne is a hostage of Lady Stoneheart

Ramsey is married to Jeyne Poole who he believes or believed is Arya

Theon is still his bitch

Davos got sent by Stannis (still alive) to get the support of the North via House Umber who in turn have charged him with finding Osha and Rickon (still alive)

Arya is still in Braavos

Various Martell people appear to have important roles to play

I have a feeling the next two books will cause uproar by ending very differently

BartonHollow · 11/03/2019 20:07

Ooo @LaurieMarlow

Could Bran warg the ice dragon?

The Night King touched him!

crispysausagerolls · 11/03/2019 20:16

Also I am only on book 3 but Lord Friendzone (Jorah) and Dany have just kissed?!?! Wtf?!? Are they going to end up together?!? Xx

BartonHollow · 11/03/2019 20:37

Do you want the spoiler or not crispy ? Grin

crispysausagerolls · 11/03/2019 20:44

Yes please!!!!!!

BartonHollow · 11/03/2019 20:50

Dany is just not that into him and Barristan Selmy rocks up to solve the problem for her Grin

crispysausagerolls · 11/03/2019 20:52

Poor Lord friendzone!

SaucyJack · 11/03/2019 20:53

I reckon Bran wargs into the Night King and then kills him/them both.

Based on not much.

SweetSummerchild · 11/03/2019 20:58

@BartonHollow have you read any of the Winds sample chapters?

I’ve read a couple of them including the two Arianne ones, the Alayne (Sansa) one and the Forsaken (Damphair).

I think Cersei in the show is taking the part of fAegon in the books.

I have no idea what part show Euron will play. That character is a complete disaster!

BartonHollow · 11/03/2019 21:19

SweetSummerchild

I don't particularly care for the no context chapters though I have read the one on Euron's boat with his salt wife (??)

I have a suspicion he'll drop TWOW fairly quickly after the series ends and that that book on its own will make it obvious that the books can't end the same way, killing off characters who make it in the show would be an obvious shout

At any rate I'll have to reread the whole thing soon, as I haven't read any since ADWD was released, I was lucky enough to virtually read them back to back, with only the shortest wait between 4 and 5. And then I joined team Get The Fuck On With It And Stop Pissing About George

I was in the camp that he was just going to novelise whatever the show did, but after Season 4 or so, rumours that he was disillusioned by the team swirled and grew so now I'm more expecting the last two books to be a gigantic FUCK YOU, to Dave/Dan and the last 3 seasons.

SweetSummerchild · 11/03/2019 21:40

BartonHollow sadly, I don’t have your optimism. I don’t think he’ll be able to finish the story in two novels considering where the story leaves off at the end of ADWD. There are too many storylines that are outstanding and more that keep being added. Realistically, I don’t think the story is even 2/3rds of the way through, and trying to shoe-horn the rest into two books will seem rushed and leave some story arcs abandoned. Sadly, I just don’t think George’s writing pace is up to the task - especially when he keeps getting distracted with side projects such as Fire and Blood.

I think D&D’s expensive work of fan fiction is the only ending we’re going to get. Many of the great mysteries of the book series (R+L=J, Hodor, Jon Snow’s resurrection, the Hound is the Gravedigger, Sansa will destroy Littlefinger) have already been spoiled. Whilst I’d love to think we’d see a different ending, I’m just not convinced.

LaurieMarlow · 11/03/2019 21:43

I have read the one on Euron's boat with his salt wife

That is fucking amazing and just brings it home to me what a tragedy it will be if it never finishes.

SweetSummerchild · 11/03/2019 21:53

The Forsaken chapter is brilliant. Euron is probably the most vile character in the book. I still think he will be the one in the book to take control of Viserion and not a white walker.

LaurieMarlow · 11/03/2019 22:16

Euron is probably the most vile character in the book

I agree.

I love the way the ‘principal evil fucker’ character started badly with Joffrey the cunt, then got steadily worse when Ramsay took up the mantle and now Euron’s poised to up the ante yet again. He is one demonic bastard.

I also love the way George obviously wanted to read The Forsaken chapter for years and was always offering it up at comic con and the like, only for the fans to reject it because Aeron is a boring dweeb. When it finally got out, we all realised what we’d been missing. Shock

In terms of the ending, I think D&D have been given the broad brush strokes, but their execution is/will be just so much more pedestrian than George’s. Take Sansa. I just know that George’s version of Sansa fucking over Littlefinger will be so much more nuanced, unexpected and powerful than what we got dished up last season.

Not to mention all the storylines that haven’t made it into the show. I’m still pissed that they left out Arianne. I love Arianne. Pet theory alert, but I’m convinced that in the books Arianne will marry young Griff, newly crowned king of Westeros, and at their wedding we’ll get the wildfire revenge plot from Cersei that the show dished out to the Tyrell’s. The green wedding if you will.

Not that it’ll happen probably. Sigh.
