I like Daenerys but I’m hoping for Jon Snow to get his happy ever after, and Arya too :)

I still think Dany could go a bit mad / killy and Jon kills her for his sisters - betrayed by love. But made loads harder because they're lovers.

Yamayo · 13/01/2019 11:55

Most realistic end would be no Iron Throne. Westeros was ruled as one by despots (Targaryens) who only kept their power through use or threat of weapons of mass destruction (dragons).

Not even one generation after they were ousted Westeros is fucked (apart from Dorne who were allowed their quasi-indendence)

Westeros is an untenable concept.

ElspethFlashman · 13/01/2019 12:10

The thing that annoys me is that after the Great Sept blew up with most of the court inside it, it was never mentioned again. That was a pretty big deal.

Im hoping it's touched upon again, I've always been interested in the religious side of it, I enjoyed the Jonathan Pryce stuff (I worked with him on a thing about 20 years ago and he was a total gent, btw).

I also can't remember whether LF said the marriage was null and void because of nonconsummation or whether he actually got a legal annulment. Cos nullable is not the same thing as nullified.

I would be disappointed if that was just glossed over and ignored. I find the idea that LF got an annulment by post from Jonathan Pryce for a convicted Kingslayer and his presumed accomplice is just HBO-wank too far. Would never happen and it insults us that we would be expected to believe it.

UsedtobeFeckless · 13/01/2019 12:21

I'm enjoying the TV version. I thought the last couple of books were getting really diffuse and overcomplicated and had loads of new characters and plot lines that l didn't give a stuff about while some original characters just disappeared. All Theon's bloody uncles do my head in!

RJnomore1 · 13/01/2019 12:49

I've just read the most bonkers theory about how Varys could cover that distance in that time!

For what it's worth I don't think Jon and dany are in love and I don't think they will be together as a couple this series. I think they recognise something similar in each other that's drawn them together. It's not enough to hold a marriage down IMO.

I'm probably wrong I usually am!

Yamayo · 13/01/2019 12:53

I thought the same then re-read them and was surprised at how excited I was by the potential developments in upcoming books.

I agree the Greyjoy plot dragged, but what about the clusterfuck slow burning Dorne plot? The heir of Dorne burnt to a crisp, all because no-one was there to tell Dany of the strategic importance of their marriage?
The sparrow takeover of the kingdoms, the proper Targ heir landing in Westeros?
And Littlefinger's stealth Sansa coup?

I really hope those books are already written and ready to be published as soon as the series end.

Habadabadoo · 13/01/2019 13:59

Place marking so I can read everyone's theory's when I have time.
April April April!!

Happinessisabook · 13/01/2019 14:03

I'm going for

-tyrion made a deal with cersei to betray dany, hence dany being betrayed by love (of tyrion for his sister)
-jaime kills cersei, and himself in the process
-cersei is either faking the pregnancy to try and get Jaime back on side, or she'll have a miscarriage
-dany is pregnant, goes mad throughout the pregnancy, then dies in childbirth somehow due to tyrions betrayal
-sansa betrays jon, leading to his death
-arya dies because she miscalculates a risk of some kind and it doesn't go in her favour

UsedtobeFeckless · 13/01/2019 14:09

It was the Iron Islands who-the-fuck-cares shenanigans and the oh-so-mysterious goings on with Sam at Maistre School that were dragging for me. The others threads were intreging but only if he ever actually writes another book!

UsedtobeFeckless · 13/01/2019 14:10

I think if it came to a choice Jon would side with the Stark sisters over Dany ...

Yamayo · 13/01/2019 14:17

Jon betraying his family would be so out of character.
Show writers seem to be so in love with the Dany Jon love plot that I could see it happen though.
Martin has told them his ending and they are apparently going with it. So hopefully things will turn out tragic.

OneInAMillionYou · 13/01/2019 14:22

Oh I really hated that Jonathan Pryce King Sparrow or whatever his bloody name was! It so dragged when he was imprisoning everyone 🙄

Loved when Cersei blew up the Sept. Boom! As Hot Pie said. Hey, maybe Hot Pie will end up the secret hero? 😀

I've never read any of the books, and I've made a conscious decision not to until the TV series is over. I came to GoT late so I've missed all the theories that developed as we went along.

I thought it was wanton cruelty when Dany had the Tarlys burnt, they were just fighting for their queen at the time. I think Tyrion lost a lot of respect for her when she did that.

Absolutely love talking about the show here. I'm assuming it's a mainly female perspective?

ElspethFlashman · 13/01/2019 15:11

Oh I think Tyrion is well aware Dany can only be tamed so far. She's got a lot of Mad Targ in her. But I think he fervently believes that if he's the Good Angel on her shoulder enough, she'll start to become more moderate.

I read an interview with Peter Dinklage not too long ago where he said that Tyrion has developed a sense of responsibility whereas he started off as basically a twatty overgrown teen going Nyah Nyah to Daddy.

So I think it's very much "This is the best use of my brain and my sense of responsibility"

But personally I think Dany isn't half as worth following as he does. I think she is reactive rather than proactive and doesn't have any long term vision.

Where's the five year plan for growth, Dany??! Grin

Yamayo · 13/01/2019 15:40

Burnt to a crisp...

Monday April 15th 2am folks

Around 120 days to go!

OneInAMillionYou · 14/01/2019 02:27

Oh my God! That trailer! Sent shivers all over me. I couldn't quite make out the whispers in the background, could anyone else?

BartonHollow · 14/01/2019 02:41

@OneInAMillionYou

First whisper :

Lyanna :

You have to protect him

Second whisper :

Catelyn :

All this horror that has come upon my family and all because I couldn't love a motherless child

Third Whisper

Ned :

You are a Stark. You may not have my name but you have my blood.

It's certainly flying the Stark flag early doors, so does it signify that or that winter will fall on house Stark

OneInAMillionYou · 14/01/2019 03:23

Thanks so much Barton!

Are you a Civil Wars fan by any chance??

I'm still watching the trail and shivering!

OneInAMillionYou · 14/01/2019 03:24

Also, where is Bran??

sashh · 14/01/2019 03:55

Just an aside.

The actors who play Jon Snow and Igrette (?sp) got married this year, and most of the cast went to the wedding.

I wonder if they felt odd having a wedding with no deaths or destruction.

Back to the plot.

Sansa will not like to find out Jon is her cousin, she has never really liked him.

What is happening at the Eyrie? Does that now belong to the Starks? It would be a good place to hide out but a long way from the wall.

MyOtherProfile · 14/01/2019 04:16

Anyone know where I can see the trailer?

MischiefManagedAlways · 14/01/2019 05:01

Check out @HBO’s Tweet: twitter.com/HBO/status/1084632442030444550?s=09

There you go MyOtherProfile

OneInAMillionYou · 14/01/2019 05:30

Actually, sashh that's a really good call! The Eyrie is much more impregnable than Winterfell. I guess Robin is still there as we hadn't heard otherwise.

Honeyroar · 14/01/2019 06:21

That trailer is quite creepy. They'd better not kill those three off!

I'm so looking forward to the new series but equally nervous in case the ending is a let down and sad that it's nearly over!
