I’ve just paid £14 for one tablet and a small tube of cream
Fourteen fucking pounds!
AIBU to think that’s bloody ridiculous
I bet if men had burning vaginas it’d be a lot cheaper to get hold of 😤

You need to buy it online I get all mine that way now it's literally half price on some websites.

MrsTommyBanks · 10/01/2019 10:34

£14 Shock
I was coming on to say it's not that expensive. But clearly it's been a long time since I needed it.

£14. Bloody hell.

Bombardier25966 · 10/01/2019 10:34

Go to an independent chemist and ask for the generic versions. Less than £7 if you shop around. Even cheaper if you buy online.

(Not suggesting you shop around or wait for online delivery now, but have some in for next time.)

isthismylifenow · 10/01/2019 10:35

Is that for the Canestan pessary?

I am not in the UK but we get the generic one here and it is really less than half the price of the branded one.

MrsTommyBanks · 10/01/2019 10:36

@funkylittleboatrace yes, but, yanno sometimes you can't wait for delivery. Useful info though.

Katinkka · 10/01/2019 10:37

Generic versions are cheaper if you can get them but £7 is still steep imo.

Lymphy · 10/01/2019 10:37

Go to contraception or sexual health, they’ll examine, look under the scope and give treatments there and then no cost

DonaldDucksTowel · 10/01/2019 10:38

This was for a generic tablet and canestan cream, not the canestan duo as they didn’t have any of those

It’s something I’ve never thought to have in just in case as it’s been years since I’ve needed it

I order a generic version of the tablet on it’s own for a couple of £ on amazon and don’t bother with cream as imo natural yoghurt on a sanitary pad works better.

Also cut of sugary food & drink until it’s gone

Bombardier25966 · 10/01/2019 10:39

Unless you're fortunate to have a walk in service (many areas don't now), you may be waiting weeks for an appointment!

harrypotterfan1604 · 10/01/2019 10:39

I sent my DP for canestan duo once as he was calling at the shops anyway and he freaked at the price too 😂 not at all ideal but when you have a burning itching vagina these companies know your going to pay it out of pure desperation!

O4FS · 10/01/2019 10:39

Costco - it’s about £14 for two duo packs. Cream &

I think it’s because Canesten have the only licence? That’s what the pharmacist told me when I moaned about the cost.

IAmRubbishAtDIY · 10/01/2019 10:40

I bought the oral tablet a couple of weeks ago at Lloyds chemist for £5.75ish, the prescription the gp was going to write would have cost about £17!

Bombardier25966 · 10/01/2019 10:43

You can get treatment on the Pharmacy First scheme if you're eligible for free prescriptions, but only the cream. I explained I'd got oral thrush, and the assistant insisted I could use the scheme, and then tried to give me some cream. She didn't understand that oral was referring to my mouth.

Can only imagine some poor soul trying to put Canesten in their mouth!

Endofrelationship · 10/01/2019 10:45

Lloyds does the tablet for around £5.

userschmoozer · 10/01/2019 10:47

I was going to suggest Lloyds, they do loads of generics.

theworldistoosmall · 10/01/2019 10:56

A generic tablet/pessary costs less than a fiver. Tub of yoghurt which we always have is cheap. It's only expensive if you stick to the brands or the first place you visit doesn't have the generic stuff or fails to mention they stock it. Or worse they lie and say Canestan only have the license as the pharmacist told O4FS.

CleanHonestGoals · 10/01/2019 10:59

Asda do the generic tablet for under a fiver.

CleanHonestGoals · 10/01/2019 10:59

Should of added that it is from their pharmacy

DonaldDucksTowel · 10/01/2019 11:00

As I said I bought a generic tablet, it was £7

I couldn’t really go shopping around as my vagina is on fire

But tbh even if it was a fiver and then the cream a fiver too - that’s still a bloody lot of money!
Why is it so much? Why can’t it be £2/£3 like other OTC meds?!

OP posts:
theworldistoosmall · 10/01/2019 11:11

You don't need the cream.
Plain natural Greek yoghurt does the job for the itch. And the pessary/tablet for the treatment.

DonaldDucksTowel · 10/01/2019 11:12

I have yoghurt in the fridge too, I never knew this 🤦🏻‍♀️

Fatbutt · 10/01/2019 11:37

I get mine through wowcher, they are usually on there a couple of times each year - I paid 6.99 +3.19 postage for 3 cream and 3 tablets (both generic) from pharmacy first, the offer is still valid if anyone wants to stock up!

UhUhUhDennis · 10/01/2019 11:57

The generic stuff doesn't work for me only canesten does do I always have to pay the big bucks. Before anyone says "but it's the exact same stuff" I know!! But I've tried a few times and the generic stuff just doesn't work.
