Stolen Bin thread

ichifanny · 10/01/2019 10:22

I have one of the larger council issued bins as I have 4 children , my neighbour also does though their bin is far older as they have grown up children .
I clean mine after each collection with bleach etc so it’s still fairly new looking .
I realised last week we have a stinking mouldy one instead now so been watching on bin collection day and realised my neighbour has swapped them over .
Now this could be a mistake I highly doubt they haven’t noticed theirs is now cleaner and bigger , so today is the day I’m getting it back . The man next door can be strange so I’m relauctant to approach him to ask for it back as I think he won’t back down so I’m just going to do a swap as soon as they are emptied , currently lying in wait .... wish me luck .

Also waiting shamelessly on an update. 😂

SneakyGremlins · 10/01/2019 15:08

I have a massive bin war going on with 10A currently myself.

southnownorth · 10/01/2019 15:11

Not been yet?

I can believe I have been waiting all day for someone else's bins to be collected Grin

gt84 · 10/01/2019 15:14

@shimy yes I live in London but my borough does not provide bins. Only recycling boxes and small food waste bin but not for general rubbish

FenellasRedVelvetDress · 10/01/2019 15:14

Shimy
Im surprised, genuinly.
There is a fine system in place in my water authority for people who do this because it’s not classed as grey water but it’s classed as effluence - they have no idea what is in anybody’s bins so it could be anything getting emptied into the water system. Hence, it needs to go down a drain that is connected to a sewer. Does that make sense?

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 10/01/2019 15:14

They were late last week , I didn’t expect them to be late again
Ours were still a day late this week. God, this is stressful......

hopefullyhelpfully · 10/01/2019 15:19

Are you sure they aren't still on Xmas schedule? Our collections are still a day behind....

Shimy · 10/01/2019 15:26

Fenella - I totally get what you're saying but wouldn't that apply to any waste though? i mean how do they know whats been washed down the drains from the kitchen/bathroom sink or flushed down the toilet or bath even?
The guy i spoke to even put me on hold to speak to his superior and they both came back and just said wash it down your sink drain.

I certainly wouldn't pour paint or grease down any drain though. A lot of it is common sense.

billybagpuss · 10/01/2019 15:27

Check the council website that will tell you if they're due today.

RhiWrites · 10/01/2019 15:30

What is a fish pan? What is 'soaking water'? Why do fish need to be soaked? Why didn't she just pour it down the sink?

Presumably something a “fish kettle” used specifically for poaching fish. Again guessing, the water used in the bottom part of the kettle. Not soaked, but steamed/poached. Because full of fish scales she didn’t want in her drain?

AintNobodyHereButUsReindeer · 10/01/2019 15:37

Have the bins still not been emptied? Shock

VanGoghsDog · 10/01/2019 15:41

Oh, well, I poach fish but I just throw the water down the sink (it's not full of scales, if I buy the fish whole I descale them before I cook them, onto paper which I then throw away) or, if I poach in milk, use it to make the white sauce.

But, I just wondered if I was missing some vital step in fish prep that involved soaking in a special pan!

Artofhappiness · 10/01/2019 15:46

Rooting for you here. Although a bit concerned at all the bin washing mentioned on the thread. Should I be bleaching our wheelie bin? It’s probably the smell that is deterring thieves

KindleAndCake · 10/01/2019 16:02

Phone your council and ask them when bin day is this week.

squirrelnutkins1 · 10/01/2019 16:20

Place marking!!

ichifanny · 10/01/2019 16:21

So home and bin never got collected so even though there’s now has our rubbish and vice Versa I’ve moved our stolen one over towards my fence in a bid for ownership , so as soon as it’s collected it will be in my garden , if he comes and gets it or rings door I will say I assumed he hadn’t realised they had inadvertently been swapped . Will update if any further drama . I don’t think he has the balls to just come and take it again and if he does that proves he knows he has stolen it .

Our bin collection was a day later this week. They are still catching up from the holidays.
Good luck tomorrow!!!

Santaclarita · 10/01/2019 16:31

That is just crazy. Shock why would anyone steal a bin? It's a sodding bin.

Ariela · 10/01/2019 16:42

Might just be a one off he wanted the extra space for his post-Christmas rubbish.
Must admit, there's only 3 of us here I can go 3-4 weeks or more without needing to put the bin out, and quite often the bin men fly past and don't see our bin which I have to tuck into the hedge a bit because there is a Lad on a Bicycle who swerves onto our outside parking spot deliberately to kick our bin over. Binmen can't see the bin if going too fast due to the curve in the road

onlylonely · 10/01/2019 16:43

Ive had my bottle/tin bin stole twice, costs £15 to replace. As they say, “if it ain’t screwed down”.... Sad

ladylane55 · 10/01/2019 16:45

Each bin has unique number etched inside bin lid should this come to dispute council can clarify which name or house it was allocated to 😀😀

bumbleymummy · 10/01/2019 17:42

Oh! I was so hoping to find a happy bin ending. Fingers crossed it’s sorted tomorrow.
