Stolen Bin thread

I have one of the larger council issued bins as I have 4 children , my neighbour also does though their bin is far older as they have grown up children .
I clean mine after each collection with bleach etc so it’s still fairly new looking .
I realised last week we have a stinking mouldy one instead now so been watching on bin collection day and realised my neighbour has swapped them over .
Now this could be a mistake I highly doubt they haven’t noticed theirs is now cleaner and bigger , so today is the day I’m getting it back . The man next door can be strange so I’m relauctant to approach him to ask for it back as I think he won’t back down so I’m just going to do a swap as soon as they are emptied , currently lying in wait .... wish me luck .

Shameless place mark

coconutpie · 10/01/2019 13:51

Oh god I love this! I'm not shamelessly place-marking at all. Go OP!

NothingsReal · 10/01/2019 13:53

Our bins were still a day behind this week due to catching up after the holidays

FenellasRedVelvetDress · 10/01/2019 13:54

Hells bells.
I was sure the bin men would arrive the minute you reversed off your drive!!
Come on bin men! I’ve got pies to make but I can’t leave this thread .
< I do need to get out more>

userschmoozer · 10/01/2019 13:54

OP if you need back up send out a shout and loads of us will rock up and stand outside his house and glare at him while you get your bin back.

WitchDancer · 10/01/2019 13:59

Fingers crossed the bin men come soon.

In the meantime I'm slightly amused at the thought of your other neighbours watching this all unfold - telling each other they've just seen you stealth sneak to write your number on the bin 😂

ichifanny · 10/01/2019 14:01

Yeah I’m a bit worried someone saw me writing on the bin , I had 4 month old balanced on my hip at the time . The street is fairly deserted during the day but you never know .

IknowTheBoswellJoke · 10/01/2019 14:04

Can't you leave a note on the bin you have (his dirty one) that they are to return this to his house and bring your numbered one back?

GhostSauce · 10/01/2019 14:09

Our bins always get emptied a day later when there's been a bank hol. NYD was a bank hol so instead of Thursday our bins will be emptied Friday.

Does this not happen in anyone elses area?

Oh god this is hilarious 😂

DaffodilPower · 10/01/2019 14:13

Good point PPs.. our bins were Tuesday this week not Monday, perhaps your's are a day behind too, Op?

ichifanny · 10/01/2019 14:14

They were late last week , I didn’t expect them to be late again .

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 10/01/2019 14:15

ghost ...we used to have that, everyone got a day later, and the bin men got overtime for the first weekend of the NY doing the Friday bins on a Saturday

now they just don't do the bins on the day, so this year any Tuesday bin collections were not done, and you have to put your bin out the next day and they will pick it up at some random point in the coming week. Meanwhile the bins get full to overflowing and lurch about all over in the wind.

IknowTheBoswellJoke · 10/01/2019 14:16

Would it be ridiculous if you filmed the collection......for.....research? then post on here

HariboLecter · 10/01/2019 14:17

Haven't RTFT yet... I have just ordered some labels from ebay with our house name on Blush

TheRealJoseph · 10/01/2019 14:24

Then there was the day they needed to turn off their water. I had a new water main at the bottom of my drive. They had the old 1930s one at the bottom of theirs. Simple. They didn't want a nasty old water main, so they turned my water off instead.

Just wondering how that would work. Confused

LadyOfTheCanyon · 10/01/2019 14:26

I'm a bit Shock that bin water has to go in a specific drain! What about all the animal shit and general road gunk that must get washed into all the road drains?

NyNameIs · 10/01/2019 14:29

I can relate. We are end terrace and bins go out back of street apart from ours which goes on side. We've had two brand new bins this year. One was actually taken as it was stolen as it was delivered (not on bin day so the fucker who took it did so deliberately) council replaced so technically we've had three new ones.

Id written numbers on mine but cheeky twat over the road who lives at same number had snatched it and left me her broken lidded one. It's was clean enough but had half the lid missing and because our dogs shit goes in ours, even though it's bagged the flies and maggots are ridiculous, council replaced that one too. Dh has written "this bin belongs to big hard grumpy man at "our number and street" on the side 😀

Re the bin liners, out council don't lift ours out manually, whoever pulls the bin out will un hook it from the sides and it all goes in the truck, the few times I've forgotten I just pull the dirty liner out and plop it inside the new one. Dh also Jet washes out bin one a month or so, esp in summer because it can still be a bit whiffy.

ineedtostopbeingsolazy · 10/01/2019 14:34

Have the bin men been yet??

arranbubonicplague · 10/01/2019 14:34

Oddly enough, there are all sorts of rules that are quite surprising about your ability to divert/use your own grey water and also what can be put into rainwater gullies/drains on streets. (My MiL had a stern telling off by her Water Board when one of their workers spotted her putting the soaking water from her fish pan down one of their street drains. It genuinely was water but I wonder if they thought she was dumping fat/grease which does cause substantial blockages and problems.)

Shimy · 10/01/2019 14:47

Fenella - i just spoke to our water and sewage authority and they seemed rather bewildered. They said just empty down wherever your kitchen waste goes as i have done before.

I think what you're worried about it the slurg of waste that ends up blocking drains because people haven't emptied their bins properly. I even read through their website and it mentions things not to pour down your drain like Paint and grease (best emptied onto paper and binned than washed down). Nothing at all about separate drains for wheelie bin water.

VanGoghsDog · 10/01/2019 14:54

What is a fish pan? What is 'soaking water'? Why do fish need to be soaked? Why didn't she just pour it down the sink?
