Stolen Bin thread

I have one of the larger council issued bins as I have 4 children , my neighbour also does though their bin is far older as they have grown up children .
I clean mine after each collection with bleach etc so it’s still fairly new looking .
I realised last week we have a stinking mouldy one instead now so been watching on bin collection day and realised my neighbour has swapped them over .
Now this could be a mistake I highly doubt they haven’t noticed theirs is now cleaner and bigger , so today is the day I’m getting it back . The man next door can be strange so I’m relauctant to approach him to ask for it back as I think he won’t back down so I’m just going to do a swap as soon as they are emptied , currently lying in wait .... wish me luck .

Good point though , when cars are washed all the gunk goes down the general road drains , I’ve never thought of that before .

I liked Herewards idea of labelling their bin as well.
I've never cleaned my bins Blush

FenellasRedVelvetDress · 10/01/2019 12:25

Shimy
See my previous post as to what you should do.
If there’s one in your area it’s best to get a professional bin cleaning company to do your bins.
It’s worth the few quid a month.

wijjy · 10/01/2019 12:26

If they are number 6, then you could help them too with a nice paint job on their bin

I've got no where to drain mine so I clean it with hose and bleach then lay a large bin liner on the grass all the crap goes on that , the water drains off then I wrap it in another liner , can get a bit fiddly sometimes

ichifanny · 10/01/2019 12:27

Haha unfortunately not wijjy

Oh my god I'm so nervous, how dare they swap it though!

PoisonousSmurf · 10/01/2019 12:29

Our bins are so small now. Have to take a spade to it and smash everything down.

Shimy · 10/01/2019 12:33

Fenella - Our neighbours use a professional company and i actually decided to use them at one point, then I decided to clean it myself once and it was amazing how quickly i cleaned all of them that i decided i didn't need professional cleaning. The only dilema was where to empty the water? The one time i did it i emptied it onto the side lawn Blush but don't want to make a habit of this.

gt84 · 10/01/2019 12:36

Our council doesn’t provide bins. Everyone just leaves their rubbish bags out on the edge of their property on the morning of collection.
Very cheeky of your neighbour to nick yours. Can’t believe people do that!!

Whatabloodymessthisis · 10/01/2019 12:37

No bins Shock

Eliza9917 · 10/01/2019 12:39

Have they bin yet?

Nanny0gg · 10/01/2019 12:40

I don't understand.

If your bin is bigger, how can they pretend it's theirs?

Shimy · 10/01/2019 12:43

gt84 - No bins? but why? are you in the UK?

ChrisjenAvasarala · 10/01/2019 12:45

We have bins in this council area but there are a few particular streets/parts of town who don't have bins and just do the bag thing because the bin truck can't get down to them so it's a smaller van thing that goes.

ichifanny · 10/01/2019 12:47

Nope not been yet , losing the will to live .

Shimy
You need to get in touch with your local water authority to find out which drain in your area is suitable for putting waste bin water down.
It’s important not to put waste bin water down any old drain as it is full of dangerous bacteria.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/01/2019 12:50

I have never in my life cleaned my bin and now I really want a nice shiny bin which will be the envy of the street

I think itchifanny has one you can pinch borrow, bloodymess

Alteregoagain1965 · 10/01/2019 12:54

Oh I don't have to be anywhere until 3pm. I want to take over bin watch!

AuRevoirAdios · 10/01/2019 12:58

This thread is the only thing getting me through work at the moment

It's also making me angry because I would be fuming if somebody took my nice clean bin!

ichifanny · 10/01/2019 13:00

Ok dragged bin in front of my house so it’s opposite side to there’s so gives a bit of a buffer zone . It’s still full though .

If I were a dishonest person, I'm sure I could make a big long list of all the lovely things I might want to steal.

A slightly nicer bin would most assuredly not feature anywhere on it.

Some people are very strange. He needs a hobby.

MyEyesAreNotDeceivingMe · 10/01/2019 13:03

Amazon do great bin stickers that have your house number and street on. They’re super sticky, Black on white background. Mine have been on for 5 years and haven’t budged.

My neighbour regularly picked up my food waste bin. I wrap my waste but they didn’t so their bin was a bubbling stinky mess.. gross. I’d go round to get it and she was all, oh really I didn’t notice. Sure thing.

Then I had to get a brand new one as the lid fell in to the lorry. She still tried to purloin it. Hence the amazon stickers.. she’s not tried it since.

An old mop is an easy way to clean a wheelie bin. I pour the water onto the path at the side of the house and the water runs into the drain and I sweep up any other matter.
